What makes ZebraLight so good? (SC64c LE)

  • I was trying to explain to a friend what makes the ZebraLight SC64c LE so good. Here is a short argument for it!
    Things I didn't even mention:
    - regulated driver
    - potted electronics
    - really great pocket clip
    - just a BEAUTIFUL beam (I'm a sucker for reflector singles)

    That's the most straightforward explanation of their UI ever. I want to get the same light but reading over the UI made it seem much harder, thank you!

      He's making it sound like a regular light, it's not, I have one and I rarely use it for this reason, I've taken it to the field before and it just does weird things and seems to switch upon me mid use. When I play with it it seems like it has four different modes but will only cycle through three, which of the three it cycles through is kind of random, to get to the fourth. You need to stop on the mode closest to it and double click in order to have it switch over. I'm sure the UI makes sense and you can get used to it but it doesn't match other flashlights and is mostly unnecessary and I think a little bit overhyped, I would take my LANapple any day

    I got an SC65c HI a few days ago. Despite being quite compact and lightweight, it feels great in the hand. The tint and CCT are great, and the range of lumen levels is perfect for EDC. I love how you can configure the brightness levels and even switch between different sets of levels.
    Press-and-hold cycling doesn't actually resume where you left off, but with just 3 levels in the cycle, that hardly matters.
    I'm not a fan of the double-click toggle between L1/L2, M1/M2, and H1/H2. The fact that it remembers which of each pair you last used means the L/M/H cycle is inconsistent, and you never know if double-click will increase or decrease brightness. I'd prefer if it always went to L2/M2/H2 first, so double-click always boosted output. I find it odd for single click to take you to high rather than medium or low. This seems appropriate for a tactical flashlight, not for EDC. I know you can assign custom brightness levels to swap medium and high in UI Group G6 or G7, but that messes up the press-and-hold cycle order.
    I know I'll get used to the existing UI, but I feel like it could be better. If I could program my own custom UI, I'd get rid of the double-clicking and pairing up of levels altogether, and just make press-and-hold cycle through all 6 levels. I'd make press-and-hold from off start at the lowest level and go up from there, while press-and-hold from on would resume where you left off. Double-click would always go to the highest level, regardless of whether the light is on or off. And short-press would turn the light on or off, resuming at the last used level.

    Do you know how much the runtime, lumens and candela would change with a 519a 5700k dedome inside of this body? I kinda want to hit up bob_mcbob but i am just not sure if it would be good

    • @cheule
      @cheule  Год назад

      My friend has a few Bobralights, and he said that de-domed 519a 4500K was putting out about ~600 lm. The throw increased. He mentioned if he had to do it again he would have dedomed a 5000k or 5700k, as this one came out too warm.
      His others are sw45k, and they run around ~500lm

    Easy to find another 18650 light with more output, better tint, better interface. Not going to find one with better build quality, durability, size, weight. Pretty good price for what it is too, especially compared to any of the "American" brands like Surefire.

    • @cheule
      @cheule  Год назад +2

      It’s a very enthusiast grade light, people that want it usually already know about it, and people that don’t have it already usually don’t want to be persuaded. I’ve talked to many of my own flashlight, enthusiast, friends, and they either have these lights already, and love them, or say things like “I just don’t get the allure”

      @@cheule little drop in CRI is acceptable as long as it offers significant increase in brightness. I picked XHP50.3 HI for that purpose. R9050 looks much nicer compared to 70CRI and it throws very well too.

    Fatal flaw of Zebralights is the battery tube design. One drop of the flashlight and your battery is crushed, and then it makes poor contact, sometimes even arcing inside which is a major safety concern. Easy fix by welding metal tabs to the crushed battery cells, but it shouldn't have to be like that. My Zebralight is my favorite light but it's also my most unreliable light. It's happened many times. Poor design.

    • @cheule
      @cheule  11 месяцев назад +1

      I guess it’s the deal with the devil you make for the absolute smaller 18650 light you can get. I mean this thing is 18350 custom sized.

    • @huge_balls

      @@cheule I really think an extra mm of length is an absolute necessity, the current design is too unreliable. My zebralight is out of commission again with a dented battery 😂 You will not notice 1 extra mm without pulling out a ruler I am sure.
