  • This is a review of the 2nd generation BMW X5 which was produced from 2007-2013 with a minor refresh for 2011. This is a 2011 X5 xdrive 35i which has a 3.0L inline 6 twin turbo. Other X5 models from this generation include the x5 3.0si, X5 4.8i, xDrive 30i, xDrive 50i, xDrive 35d & X5 xdriveM. How does it stack up to the ML/GLE Class, Q7, and other rivals in the competitive luxury suv segment?

    Such a difficult decision. Seems like people are split 50/50 on this one. Half say it's a great car and they love it, half say to run and not look back and that it's just a money pit that is always breaking. Hmmm🤔

      Depends on the engine and year. Some are super reliable and some v8 versions not so much.

      Get it. E70 is a beast!
      I just got a 2012 e70 50i. It’s perfect. It’s a heavy specious SUV that drives like a m3.
      Just take your time searching for the right car. Carfax and previous driving history is very important. Look for ones with 130k+ miles with services records of engine work/parts are already done/replaced.
      Bring a mechanic with you when you find the one you like so he can take a look at it also. Test drive it for at least an hour. Drive it hard. If the car has any issues, it’ll come up and it’ll help you with your purchase decision.
      Good luck.

    The 2nd row seats slide forward. I’ve had 6 foot adults back in the 3rd row without much trouble. Any kid or average sized adult should be fine (though I’d only recommend shorter trips for anyone over 6 feet).

    Very good review. I had a 2008 x5 3.0si. Beautiful vehicle. Drove great. However, every time I started the engine, a new warning light came on. Replaced starter, oil pan, valve covers,water pump, and so much more. Became afraid to drive it, as it had become a money pit. Mechanic advised getting rid of it quickly, because head gaskets were about to go.

    Nice video but comeon guy you’re an amateur at BMWs!
    “i” after bmws model names means “fuel injected” (which is nothing special these days, they’ve been using “i” for decades)
    The first number in bmws model name is the series (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8)
    The second 2 numbers are engine displacement, which are sometimes rounded up or down. For example:
    328i = 3 series, with a 2.8 liter engine
    740i = 7 series with a 4.4 liter engine
    X5 3.5 = X5 (suv based off 5-series) with a 3.0 liter turbo.

    • @grzegorzgrotkowski6575
      @grzegorzgrotkowski6575 3 года назад +1

      Yes and no. 328 used to be 3 series with 2.8 liter engine naturally aspirated. Nowadays it's 2.0 liter turbocharged engine with 245 HP. Coming back to e70 X5 series you'll get 30d, 40d and 50d which are all the same 3 litre engine but different power.

    What are the downsides about any BMW model with black interior is after some time it starts to look old / outdated, dusty and a faded look. Especially for the ones that are not garage kept. But even for a BMW in today's time that might be a few years old has the same issue. The interior looks like the car is 30 years old.

    I have been researching and am interested in buying a used BMW X5, my preference is a 7 seater, the second generation (2011 after the facelift). In my research, I have come across a rather intriguing issue regarding the specifications of the vehicle, concretely the weight and the dimensions. The official dimensions and weight of this model seems to be the following: 4.84x1.98x177 and 2.237Kg, respectively.
    However, I have come across some versions, mainly from Singapore, with very different specifications. In those versions of the BMW X5, the dimensions and weight are: 4.87×2.19×1.69 and 1.804kg (around 400kg less than the previous referred weight).
    I have asked so many people about this issue, but still no positive answer so far. Would you please explain me the possible reason for these differences in the specs.

    • @DrivenCompanion
      @DrivenCompanion  5 лет назад +2

      I don't know the answer but perhaps it has to do with variances in engine weights?

      E70 is reliable if you get right engine, stay away from V8s, can’t go wrong with inline 6 engines(30i, 35i) they are known to go 250-350k miles depending on maintenance.

    • @ModMINI
      @ModMINI 4 года назад +4

      I bought a v8 with 100k miles on it. Lots of issues initially due to deferred maintenance by previous owner, but it's been reliable the entire time I've had it. Do not buy one with coolant or oil leaks. If you can't do your own work, the repairs can get expensive.
