    I remember asking for a Terokkar video, and you did not disappoint. I know vanilla is your thing, but I love Outland and all of TBC, and I love when you cover it - especially your ending thoughts, about how massive the ramifications of the expansion have been to the lore of the game.

    Does anyone ever think about how Blizzard changed the entire theme of the Scourge between wc3/vanilla and anything that came later?
    Scourge used to be a mix of undead and ancient egypt (ziggurats resembling small pyramids more than rl ziggurats, liches being pharaohs, obsidian statues, scourge music kinda having subtle egypt elements, scarabs, necropolis being floating temples/pyramids with obelisks).
    It was a really interesting concept idk why they changed them to discount mordor and changed their whole aesthetic and gave all the egyptian elements to other factions, you can do a lot with the initial concept.

    • @Jediwarlock
      @Jediwarlock  5 месяцев назад +2

      Great point!! I think the main reason it changed was to assign that ziggurat/scarab theme specifically to the Nerubians which the Scourge assimilated into their architecture (Naxxramas actually being an ancient ziggurat that was raised from the ice by the Lich King). In Wrath though we see more of the cold steel/Saronite vibe which is a lot different but we could theorize the Lich King was just upgrading his look after experimenting with the new Saronite ore... but who knows, the art team probably just went in a new direction to separate it from the Ahn'Qiraj/Uldum theme but I could be wrong :)

    • @oscara1573
      @oscara1573 2 месяца назад

      The ones that gave the egyptian vibes were the nerubians, which sadly were heavily scrapped from WoW. In general all insect-like races had that vibe, AQ20 and A40 too

    • @idkdontask7142
      @idkdontask7142 2 месяца назад +1

      @@oscara1573 you're right it is sad how much nerubian stuff was cut from wrath.
      However I don't like the fact they later changed the lore to scourge got its architecture from nerubians because that makes no sense because scourge in warcraft 3 had a lot more babylonian/egyptian elements than just architecture like their music or Liches. I feel like this change in aesthetic turned scourge way more generic

    I was genuinely upset when they put the mana bomb on Theramore. Lots of reasons, partly because Theramore had been a part of Warcraft 3 to such a big degree (the humans defending Hyjal went on to form Theramore, and later you play as Rexxar invading it to stop Admiral Proudmoore), partly because it was just cool to have a human town in Kalimdor and the potential that followed with that, partly because it entailed killing off Ronin for seemingly no real purpose other than shock, and lastly because it seemed to disagree with the character development they had done with Garrosh in Stonetalon, where he rejects using mass destructive weapon as weak and dishonorable.
    That being said - it certainly was a massive shock.

    • @Jediwarlock
      @Jediwarlock  5 месяцев назад +3

      I agree, just another example of more modern expansions eliminating characters or places just for the shock value instead of thinking about what that actually means in the context of the world :(

    • @nakenmil
      @nakenmil 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@Jediwarlock Well, they started that trend off in Burning Crusade when they killed off the entirety of Illidan's crew, because they had no idea the game would survive any longer. It was a massive misstep that they have tried to get around ever since, ref. Legion, Shadowlands, etc.

    • @lucamckenn5932
      @lucamckenn5932 3 месяца назад

      I think you missed the point of garrosh saying that in stonetalon. Thats meant to be a certainty of character, you dont think he would because he seems against it. What i cant recall is if this was pre or post sha corruption. That detail would help shed some better idea on if garrosh had an ego shatter and broke character as a result, or he was beginning to go old god crazy. Either are a decent enough explanation for storytelling.

    • @nakenmil
      @nakenmil 3 месяца назад

    That's an interesting theory! But wasn't the manabomb in Kirin'Var detonated before it was used in the Terrokar forest? Perhaps it was just a test before we did our part? this could explain why the manabombs used in retail WoW also damage solid objects.
    Also I love that Heim Oppener cameo on the preview :P

    • @Ivanus59
      @Ivanus59 5 месяцев назад +3

      That makes complete sense... I mean that part of Netherstorm is in that state before we ever get there, so how could it have happened after? :D

      Are we sure how long ago each event went down? Are we sure *Blizzard* was sure?

    • @EggeFett
      @EggeFett 5 месяцев назад +2

      @Ivanus59 Thanks! :)@@DIEGhostfish A valid point, I suppose. I was looking at it from a player's perspective, as they're likely to encounter Fallen Sky Ridge (Red Crystal) first, than the Cenarion Thicket, which unlike Kirin'Var was definitely a recent event, since Cenarion Expedition arrived in outland recently. Finally, we see the Kirin'Var Village, which was founded a long time ago and is very close to Tempest Keep. Kael'thas would likely destroy it first, since it's an opposing force and it's very close to his ship and the Sunfury bases of operation, such as Manaforges. Also it was apparently enough time for the corpses to decompose or at least dissappear, unlike the Cenarion Thicket. Lastly, there is a necromancer in the village called Naberius, who apparently had enough time to corrupt the spirits of the Kirin'Var, which I assume had to take at least some time. At the very least he had to set up necromantic focus.
      Take those speculations with a grain of salt however, I looked into quests and lines referencing Kirin'Var and indeed, there's no cleas staple of when it happened, so it's not impossible it could have happened after Cenarion Thicket. So I guess there is no telling when it happened, or at least I didn't find any info on it :)

      Chronologically there are 2 or 3 other leveling zones inbetween Terrokkar and Netherstorm and Kirin Var is at the end of Netherstorm content.
      Also Kirin Var was built on Draenor before it exploded so it was partially devastated in the process.

    • @DIEGhostfish

      @@Pihtorich But it seems there used to be rivers still running through it even after the original; breakup of Draenor. Since there was still fishing stuff lying around.
