This music contributes an awful lot to the enjoyment of Everlasting Summer. It's more than mood music; it's an integral part of the game itself and sets the tone for our total immersion in it.
It's considered a porn game, but why? And why its being put on Nukatu with 'adult' bits reinstated is such a big deal I have no idea. Apart from Lena's bad ending (which is truly disturbing and can bring one to tears) there is nothing in it that should stop younger teens enjoying it, except that the themes are complex and require an adult understanding of things to get the most out of the game. The options we have in the game are a perfect metaphor for the life choices we make and the consequences dished out to us for the paths we take.
The portrayal of the female characters is very astute and just how they might confusingly interact with us, leaving us poor guys with the question: "What just happened!?"

Morehu I read ES about a year ago and thus didn't get to see the ruckus that happened. I'm guessing ES was seen as the "porn" type because the nsfw artwork in the visual novel stood out just as much as (if not more than) the lessons ES intended to provide. Either the scenes were too much to ignore or people overlooked the fact that these scenes were somewhat common in visual novels. Or maybe regulations were different back when ES had its initial release.
The nutaku incident could be explained by the fact that there were fans who cared about the nsfw scenes (y'know, THOSE types of fans) and hated that these parts were omitted in later versions of ES.
Focusing on the story, I agree that ES leaves something for us to think about. Instead of going wild with surprises that would result in memes and stuff, it tries its best to remind us of some life lessons that need to be emphasized more often. I read ES, hoping that it wouldn't shove overused themes down my throat, and I was impressed the whole way. As someone who is new to visual novels (but wary of cliches), this is one story I'm never gonna forget. It has its flaws, but it does its job well.
And that music... Who wouldn't love the music?

Thanks so much for your thoughtful reply, Hector. I'm with you and we seem very much on the same page. I'm not sure when it was released, but, yes, social mores have become far more liberal in recent years, sometimes to the point of a permissive lack of discernment (especially as they affect younger followers).
I think ES definitely belongs in the adult category, but not because of the so-called porn, but because of the sophisticated social and psychological issues explored that younger players either cannot understand or that they could become seriously disturbed by (Lena's bad ending for example).
It's such a beautiful story and it left me profoundly affected, in both positive and negative ways. As a man who has been in the shoes of Semyon, I can so identify with him and I really wanted to climb into the story and put him right in some things (like how to deal with appropriately with Lena in an honest, brave and open way - what a typically awkward youth he was in dealing with the greater sophistication of girls; that gender difference was brilliantly captured!!).
The great thing about this story, though, is that, even if I could transpose myself into the story, I was a different person when I was Semyon's age and definitely was the same kind of nerdy, socially awkward person back then that he is.
This is the point about choices of path and the forks in the road ahead for us. This story explores some of these choices along with some of the outcomes. Yes, it is clunky and misses its target sometimes, but the story is still pretty amazing for all that and I've become a real fan of the visual novel format. I was impressed by the quality of the translation and I assume it was orinally in Russian and with the Cyrilic script.
And, yes, what a standout music score! Great credit to Sergey Eybog and I wonder what else he has produced.
One thing that really bugs me though (on a personal note). After accidentally discovering the Yulya route, I closed the game by mistake before I finished it and now I can't find this route again, no matter how much I try. I find myself along the Semyon route every time. Very frustrating! The Yulya route is the only one I haven't yet completed.

Morehu Do you remember what choices were picked when you found Yulya (from Semyon's prologue dream all the way to the old camp)? Like Miku's story, one wrong choice could lock you out of the Yulya path.
If you still can't get back to Yulya no matter what, then maybe your copy of ES got glitched somehow...

I can't really remember. I think I followed the voice and ate the apple (or was it the other way around?). I was trying my best to minimise my interactions with the other characters. I remember Yulya's route was the opposite of Miku's (which I got on to easily).
Re. copy, I didn't download anything. I know in some versions there is DLC, but not in the Nutaku version that I play - this was all online.
Oh well. I'll just keep trying and save often. I saved a lot in the card game because I had to beat some and lose against others. I had to beat Lena and Ulyana, but lose against Alisa.

Morehu Hmm, you had the right decisions regarding the voice and the apple (not to mention remaining neutral as much as possible)...what about the keys Slavya left behind? Some guides urged not to take them, as they may lock you out of Yulya to make way for Miku

Amazing music, and the best-kept secret. Everlasting Summer was a chance discovery for me when I had a look at the Nukatu website. I understand the so-called porn aspect of the game (Stripped out of the Steam version) was reinstated in the Nukatu version. Odd that it was ever an issue. At no stage is it really pornographic, except maybe at the very softest level. It is a beautiful visual novel with lots of twists and turns according to the choices the player makes - a metaphor for genuine life choices and how they can change our futures forever. It can make you sob bucketloads at times (such as with Lena's bad ending), and you can be frustrated in the extreme at Semyon's inability to communicate openly and bravely with Lena - just like most of us more introverted socially awkward misfits - and the response to Lena's outbursts for most of us is surely "What just happened!?", just the very kinds of bullets females often throw at us out of the blue to test our love for them.
This piece reminds me of the works of Andreas Vollenweider. I would love to see Sergey Eybog produce full-length versions of all the songs in Everlasting Summer. 1:50-2min is a little short to get into fully, especially for songs that have a strong melodic development ("A Promise From Distant Days" for example).
