I'm pretty sure with the amount of time she's probably stared at it shouldn't she have it memorized? I haven't seen mad max but I will now and I hope she makes it back home.
I just wish they had gotten to make this movie pre-covid. To be clear, I actually love the film and I like it more than Fury Road for several reasons. However, the CGI is pretty bad at times and the citadel scenes were unfortunate looking. Again, the writing, direction, action, everything I LOVED, but the scene with Furiosa hooking the chain around the digger truck would’ve been amazing if they had better CGI artists.
It was such a serious/twisted moments but I laughed so hard at his realization( these people are insane I gotta get out of here) as war boys were raining down on his troops...
@@wesleywarsmith1113 They should've done the war part a bit more, at least them uniting and charging towards dementus with the doof warrior shredding behind them.
Praetorian Jack being Furiosas ally in this film makes Furiosa teaming up with Mad Max make a lot more sense in Fury Road. She can see Jacks virtues in Max that way.
I really like that even though Jack and Furiosa only had a limited time on screen, their relationship felt very heartfelt. When he passed away via Dementus, It was gut wrenching. Even then, I could not be mad at Dementus, he was too good of a character, a diabolical lad
Very disappointing film. And fury rd is my favourite film of all time. The characters, effects are great. The story falls very short and it's all over the place in a period of 15 yrs without explanation. Your action falls flat when you don't have direction. Fury rd had direction. This doesn't
@@rayromano6249 well opinions are opinions but wow, I need to check your ticket to see if you watched avatar the last air bender remake because I disagree 100% with everything you said, and I hate everything.
@@MaximusR93 as much as I like Dementus as a fictional character he got exactly what he deserved and even wanted "The question is, do you have it in you to make it epic" and then Furoisa goes ands shows exactly how to defeat Imortan Joe and his gang. That's if he's still alive at the end of Fury Road. Just proving to him that society is possible and that his mentality is flat out wrong.
No nod to the epic citadel fight where they used the crane hooks to lift all their enemies bikes into the air and crash em into each other? That fight was so epic.
Alot of people don't realise that Furiosa is being retold by one of the history men from Furiosa's perspective Meanwhile Fury Road happens almost entirely in real time
A prequel that not only stands on its own as a great movie, but a movie that makes the movie that comes after even better is not something we get very often. This movie is a great accomplishment.
@@ogukuo97 And you must be one of those bots from competing companies to diminish other "products". Hint: It's art we are talking about, and you're alowed to love art ;)
The revenge done to Dementus was like something out of Greek & Roman mythologies. It was as sweet as the peach from the tree on top of him. I’m from Korea and I recognize a great revenge movie when I see one.
With Dementus at the top of the citadel and the tree growing from his stomach, I was reminded of Prometheus chained for eternity having his liver eaten, anyone else?
Maybe this is how immature my brain is, but for some reason, I didn’t think of it growing out of his stomach I thought about it growing out of somewhere else else😂😂
I like how it subtly explains why Bullet Farm and Gas Town send their own war parties in Fury Road to help Immorten Joe recapture his wives. Like in that movie I wondered why it is they feel like they owe him anything given it's an internal dispute and trade is all that matters. In Furiosa the events of that show Joe installed one leader and recovered Bullet Farm in the aftermath.
The box office is fickle and the quality of a film has absolutely no bearing on whether or not it will make money. The only truth is that Furiosa is a damn good movie and a worthy addition to the Mad Max franchise.
People forget that NONE of the Max films have ever had mega-box office. The first one was hugely profitable, but only because of its 350k budget. "The Road Warrior" - often said to be the best in the series - was number *FIFTY* in 1982 at the box office (yes, *50* - not even in the top 49 films). "Thunderdome" wasn't even close to what they wanted, either at the box office and wasn't even in the *top 20* movies that year. "Fury Road" made the MOST of all of the films and even that didn't even break $400m worldwide. Every. Single. Mad Max movie, apart from the very first one (and again, that's mainly because it had a super-tiny budget), have been box office disappointments. These are very weird, dark, nihilistic films and it's just not the kind of series that's ever lead to giant box office. Ever. Not one of them. They always, however, become loved once they reach home video. So yeah, "Furiosa" is incredible, but unfortunately, it was never going to do very well, theatrically. There *is* a fan base, but it's pretty niche, compared to the bigger titles. I think the studio HOPED it would, but the Max series just never does that well. The reason the studios keep giving Miller money to make them is because they *know* they're good movies - and will eventually make a profit. What's SAD is that "Mad Max: The Wasteland" with Hardy, the third in this new trilogy, may not get made because of how poorly "Furiosa" is doing this weekend. Hopefully they'll keep it in theaters, as the word of mouth is phenomenal - and HOPEFULLY, Warner Bros. will fund "Wasteland", regardless, to let him finish it. Just like the other films in the series, I think people will find it and love it once it hits streaming and video. In short, while the headlines are that "Furiosa" is having a bad weekend - technically, it's doing basically what the films in this series always do. I think the studio should leave it in theaters throughout the summer and not dump it onto streaming too fast, because I think it will keep going enough to justify it. But yeah, because of how popular the series has *become* (especially the original trilogy), it's often forgotten that these movies are just *never* major box office hits and that the studios always end up making the most from them *after* theatrical. But that said - as with all of them - this needs to be seen on a big screen, so I hope more people do that.
It was mid. Just saw it. Mediocre acting, watered down action vs Fury Road. Not a very compelling story just generic action shlock. The ending lacked any real impact and the prequel subtext removed a lot of the tension from the film and undercut the majority of the story beats. I'm a huge fan of all the other mad max films but this one was in my opinion the weakest entry so far. It had great ideas that I do not feel were well executed. I would not recommend this to anyone.
The scene where Furiosa escaped from Dementus with her arm stuck on the truck sent chills down my spine. That is one of the coolest character moments I have ever seen from a prequel and it made me respect Furiosa even more than I already did in Fury Road. The final confrontation with them is just as chilling and awesome. This movie is awesome and I kind of want to see it again.
I almost screamed out loud when her arm hit Dementus' wheel, it was shocking (i knew she was going to loose her arm anyway as what Fury Road told us) that i didn't see it coming how she lost her arm like that
I was shocked by how real the arm looked. They lite that just right and you're right. I swear after sitting there during that sequence seeing the arm for sure caught me off guard.
@@mikepratt6481Yeah, the fact she was able to mysteriously sneak out of a circle of 20-30 men on cycles took me out of it. I was just like “huh”. (Still liked the movie but there were issues)
I recognized him from ONLY GOD FORGIVES. He plays Ryan Gosling's brother who kills a prostitute and gets killed by the father of girl, at the cop's insistence.
I totally agree!!! Just saw it today at IMAX! Enjoyed every second of it and yes! Feeling privileged to see this movie from George Miller. I don’t understand the criticism… don’t compare it, just enjoy it especially in this day and age.
I find it difficult to connect with much of the criticism as well. The comparisons especially don't make any sense to me. It's as if the deeper themes were broadly overlooked or discarded. They all want the beats of Fury Raod, not hearing the grander harmony that Furiosa spans across both movies.
I definitely agree, I just love the fact that it expanded the universe, deepened the characters, and added a fantastic villain in Chris Hemsworth’s Dementus. Fantastic film, I was impressed
I can’t believe people let this movie flop. My god it was such a breath of fresh air after lots of shit movies. It was so damn amazing and so riveting, I’ll never forgive the audience for this
It's a real shame that Furiosa isn't performing at the box-office the way we hoped. Even Fury Road only made $380 million worldwide despite being universally hailed as a masterpiece. Still, at least George Miller was able to use WB Discovery's desperate longing for potential franchises to get $168 million to make this fantastic Furiosa prequel that we'll always have (so long as we purchase a physical copy)
who hailed it as a masterpiece...fury road was not bad but a masterpiece...i cant think of anyone who thinks it was that..dune 2 is a masterpiece...fury road and dune 2 are worlds apart!
It is reminding me of Blade Runner 2049, a movie I loved that sadly bombed at the box office. I think part of the problem is that younger audiences haven't seen the older films.
Did anyone else remember there was a “goon” character that waited by Furiosa during the scene when they were dragging Jack in the circle. Before Dementus hung her by the arm, he asked his henchman if he had “lost his nerve” or if he had gotten soft to all the violence. When Dementus comes down from his truck, you briefly see his henchman put his machete blade back in its sheath. Immediately after this, you see her arm is dangling, and she has somehow escaped. I’m thinking she had help from a sympathizer. 🤔
I love the psychological dissonance between Dementus & Furiosa, George Miller really rode a fresh line of love/hate leaning more hate imo, an awful cinematic Stockholm Syndrome. at the end she shed tears when Dementus recognized her. all the scenes where dementus both told her she could look away from 5-bike game but also made her look at her mother's death, offered her the teddy bear which she claimed and held, retrieved her from the tunnel people and placed her on his chariot, and then claimed as his daughter, possibly in both affection and ownership, and then give her up for negotiation, she was so at the mercy of his see-sawing protection experiencing both hatred for her tormentor and acknowledgement of a protector role. it adds an incredible layer of complexity to me for the origin story.
Yeah, Mad Max movies are always some of the best examples of movies that do what they're supposed to do, in the sense that they fully prioritize visual quality/excellence. For example, you would not be able to read a Mad Max story as a book, and get the same experience and/or level of satisfaction.
The movie was absolutely AMAZING. I pray to god that George somehow gets the funding for the final Mad Max movie. He deseves it, because there's nobody else that can make a chaotic apocalyose movoe quite like him
Anyone else get Berserk vibes when they saw Furiosa's arm just dangling there? I wonder if Guts will handle Griffith the same way, moving beyond Vengeance and just killing him and instead torturing him for the rest of his days, growing life from his shrinking body.
@Foofen. Yeah cutting off your arm after being forced to watch someone you love being tortured by someone you hate and then getting a metal arm? Nothing like Berserk. What's the Eclipse? Griffith did nothing wrong! Lmao
@@JudgementNutter it’s been a common trope forever. Read more manga. Getting all worked up over someone not seeing Berserk in every piece of media is funny.
I loved how there was no big Marvel-style "boss battle" between Furiosa and Dementus. It was handled with such restraint by Miller and the character of Furiosa and so much more satisfying than a big fisticuffs fight.
I like how Dementus is still able to challenge Furiosa (and the viewer) with his words. It's not a typical sweet revenge moment that is easy on the mind. Much credit for Miller in that regard. Furiosa does deliver her vengeance in a very clever and poetic way. i like how she not only destroys but also creates.
I am so glad George Miller still has control of the Mad Max franchise. I have heard he wants to do one more that concludes Max’s story. I want an old man Max movie so badly. I hope George has enough time to do it.
Furiosa’s revenge really shocked me. It really left me with my jaws on the floor. As someone who has watched thousands of movies, this is so difficult to pull off. The tree growing out of him was madddddddd.
The way these films are, according to Miller, essentially games of telephone in a post-apocalyptic future, I would have had no problem with Praetorian Jack in fact being the Max Rockatansky character.
i didn’t read the ending with the seed and the tree growing out of dementus literally. more just part of a fable that the narrator was saying than the real truth. which i liked actually.
@@atticstattic the narrator was the history man who already was shown to be a semi reliable figure in the story. and two other versions of dementus’ fate are presented prior to the final one, which is relayed as something which furiosa “whispered” to the history man. i think youre meant to choose to believe him or not. but its a nice ending to the story which is the point regardless.
@@atticstatticjust in the things he says elsewhere in the movie. his historical facts and other statements are a mix of true and slightly incorrect information, and he plays the role more of a prophet or storyteller than anything. you also have to just choose to believe him that furiosa would whisper something like that too him. all of the mad max movies are more like fables which is why i think the ending works so well.
I like the idea that the seed was planted in his corpse. There's no way he could survive long enough for the tree to grow that large, but Furiosa creating life from the death of her trauma is a nice fulfilment of her arc and is a good base to be misconstrued or exaggerated into the more Prometheus style vengeance of the legend.
Just saw it! Love it! Really appreciate the relationship between Furiosa and Praetorian Jack. Loved that their relationship was not sexual. It felt genuine. It truly represented the lives of two people, who grew up in a fuck up world and only knew constant violence, and connected as lovers but not sexually! As if they were still children. Broke my heart when he died! Love it and would watch it again!
Starting now, that's my way of watching these movie. Furiosa then Fury Road. It's a better experience now with Furiosa as an introduction to the world of Citadel and Fury Road as the conclusion of the story with the death of Immortan Joe and Furiosa taking over the Citadel
I see some comments here about the ending feeling anticlimactic and I disagree. I love how the movie ended in a different way than the other 4 movies in the series, where the last action bit wasn’t the biggest. I like how it was more intimate between the two actors and more personal.
I think my problem was that I hate when a movie just stops out of nowhere and I don't feel like anything got resolved. There were still a ton of dangling plot threads that don't go away just because Dementus did.
I appreciate those two characters had a lengthy final encounter. However dementus' demise was very silly and unrealistic. I felt no satisfaction from it. It just seemed weird and dumb to me.
i saw somebody else give an opinion saying that the music (or lack thereof) is meant to show the profound sadness in this world. there are many points in fury road that glorify the violence, and make things such as the war its sacrifice as something epic and glorious. however, in furiosa, it focuses on the pain and struggle of this world. when the war boy throws the grenade and he goes with it, there’s no music glorifying his sacrifice, it instead is silent to show the tragedy of a man killing himself for a person that does not care about him in any way.
Again, this movie doesn’t deserve the hate just because the lead is a woman. Please stop this propaganda! This movie was amazing! ACTION PACKED, PERFECT STUNTWORK AND CINEMATOGRAPHY!!! Anya & Chris hemsworth were phenomenal!! Please go watch it so that George miller could make more mad max films!!
The movie deserves hate for other reasons. Mediocre cinematography, cgi, uninteresting lore, Furiosa gets sided in her own movie. Doesnt add anything to the character
@@cwnhaernjqw trailer was completely different than the film, it was toooo heavy on crappy cgi , maybe thats why people are skeptical about it. The film had amazing visuals and the trailer didn’t do it justice
@@cwnhaernjqw literally most of the comments under any furiosa post are against the film because there is no tom hardy, and that they think the film is some woke woman 💩, which they got all wrong…
There aren’t too many movie characters I’ve seen that have the presence and impact of Praetorian Jack, in a pretty brief role too. It’s like the whole film was building up to that introduction given how important he was to Furiosa’s arc. Miller is a master at visual storytelling and sometimes it just took a brief glance at Jack to *feel* his presence. An iconic character and an iconic performance from Tom Burke IMO.
Furiosa isn’t failing because it’s bad, it’s because it’s a slower paced, world building adventure and a complete change of pace from Fury Road. I was enamored from the first frame. I thought it was so ballsy and smart of George Miller to make it so different in its storytelling from Fury Road. Also it’s been 9 years since FR, I bet most audiences forgot about Mad Max in that time
@@ZachBobBobYeah I think it's simply because the marketing has been terrible, the trailers looked awful and didn't get me hyped for this at all (and I'm a fan of the franchise lol).
I was surprised how much of the movie Anya Taylor Joy wasn’t in it. She doesn’t appear until a little after the halfway point. Enjoyed that this movie took it’s time
I’ve always appreciated how Stuckmann’s spoiler reviews are not much about spoilers but just add on to what he liked about the movie. They don’t feel like a spoiler review. Looking at you Grace!
I think the kind of revenge in Oldboy is different from Furiosa and other movies that Chris mentioned. They are normal people getting revenge on evil who inflicted pain on them while it’s very morally gray and questionable in Oldboy.
The only part of this movie that felt undercooked for me was the 40 Day War. I get that wasn't the point of the movie but it would have been cool to see the beginnings of that siege and then skip ahead rather than gloss over it entirely through narration and abstract stills.
It was actually a great choice for me because George clearly didn't want the climax to be a massive battle again and the movie is from Furiosa's perspective.
My favourite part of the film was the dynamic between Furiosa and her mother. Their scenes were heart-wrenching, upsetting, and painful. Furiosa's grief and rage are carried so wonderfully throughout the movie, especially with her incredibly expressive eyes. And this adds even further complexity to her character in Fury Road! Masterpiece.
The thing I like best about Furiosa is that it’s not only great on its own, but enhances the story of Fury Road as well. Furiosa’s desire to find “the green place” in FR makes a lot more sense now due to originally being her home, and it makes the twist that it’s been reduced to a barren wasteland hit a lot harder. We also get to see how Immortan Joe’s wives are treated like before they go on the run with Furiosa, and what made Furiosa decide to aid them: so that they didn’t have their lives torn away from them without recompense like she did. Since if she can’t give herself a new beginning, then doing so for these women who’ve done no wrong is the next best thing. And so as someone who went into it with low expectations, it’s definitely a worthwhile addition to the Mad Max universe.
Exactly! This is why i say it’s the best prequel I’ve ever seen! Not a money grab. A carefully developed movie full with action and time for world building that can stand on its own and skillfully prepares us for the main movie.
Dude, you didnt speak about the part when Furiosa is walking in the dersert and we see Max observing her from afar. I got so pumped at that. Also her arm had the map to Green place, by cutting it off she is giving up hope of seeing the green place again.
And the next scene was Furiosa somehow back in the Citadel. Is that suggesting Max brought her there? And in that case how did Max end up in his Citadel situation in the next movie? A confusing plot hole?
Didn't the old ladies in fury road say that place she was looking for was gone and destroyed. That's why she drops in anger and yells realizing her goal is no longer a thing. This was the whole point of taking back the citadel and freeing them to take that places greenery and access to water for themselves. But it's been a while since ive seen it
it was, not played by tom hardy though, miller thought to have a cameo from max and used hardys stunt double from fury road, who also worked on this one
You're right, people don't deserve Miller making more Mad Max for us. And after this weekend, we've proven we don't deserve it, and we won't be getting any more.
The first thing I said to my buddy last night after watching Furiosa was "this should have been a tv series." Whether that was from greed on my part or just wanting the world fleshed out more, who knows. It was very different from Fury Road but I enjoyed it. I would have loved to see a bit more from the oasis area in the beginning but I understand the need to jump into the wasteland. They could have easily done stories from each "town" in the wasteland. A film centered around the 40 day war would have also been interesting. Either way I was happy with what we got and am grateful George intends on making another.
Furiosa, is such an insane and glorious film. It's Genius. Fury road is probably better due to its tightened scope, but furiosa is far grander and thoughtful. Genius.
Hi Chris, I went to see this last night in IMAX and was blown away. I wasn't sure they could out do Mad Max Fury Road, but this one did. All I can say is WOW!
I'm so glad Furiosa and Jack never became a full on romantic connection. They're close, and it's hinted near Jack's end, but never quite becomes "love". I'm glad Furiosa as a character is held back from having that connection.
I just watched the movie. It's incredible. I liked it even more than Fury Road. On a sad note: It's Saturday and the movie opened this week, still there were only 8 people in the cinema. Such a shame.
Same just got back from theater 2 hours ago, my daughter and 4 other people in large FX cinema auditorium. Plus is my 16 year old daughter thought she wouldn't like it and length, but she dug it!
I washed it twice. It’s amazing. Yes I would’ve preferred more practical less CGI or better CGI, but the movie as a whole works and I pray people see it in the theater.
I think they did the CGI for the budget, how long it would take to film and the sanity of the crew as I heard Fury road was incredibly difficult to film.
I don't mind the CGI. Makes the movie a little more fantastical. These movies are essentially fables, and it's okay to look back at fables with a little exaggeration of events.
I dont think people here have watched the movie and are simply judgmental just for the heck of it. Furiosa is a cinematic masterpiece that has left me speechless! The time and patience one has to dedicate their life, in making a lifetime work, coupled with an unquenchable thirst to provide sheer awe and cinematic brilliance technically and emotionally, stands out at every single minute throughout the movie. Apocalyptic genres are quite easy to enact, since they require an astute understanding of how humans operate on baseline consciousness. George Miller did a fantastic job at delivering this exact sentiment. I am overall pleased with the aesthetic cinematic treatment compared to its predecessor for continuity and not overdoing with CG. Dramatic pacing and character introduction is given justice with sufficient screen time to develop their story arcs and finale plot. The wasteland is merciless and spares nobody. Flawless execution 10/10.
Just got home from seeing it in IMAX. As usual anytime I see a good movie, the next thing I want to do is watch your review. You nailed it. As usual. The movie was so absurdly entertaining and I say that as someone who wasn't as big of a fan of Fury Road as others. To me, this was BETTER than Fury Road. For one the range of acting overall was better. Hensworth was incredible. The child actress who played the young Furiosa was great, the Protororious Jack guy was great, Taylor was great. But the visuals and set pieces holy shit..... Unfrigginreal. I literally said 'wow'... Aloud to myself in a movie theatre when the trucker chain balls thing started spinning during the one big war party chase scene. Movie was fantastic and its a damn shame the box office numbers were down because to me, I felt I got 100% my moneys worth seeing THAT on a big screen. Furiosa was 100% the best example of the movie in recent years (even more so than Dune) that I felt absolutely needed to be seen on a huge screen.
I feel like there's a 4-5 hour cut of this some place and I want it. Miller skips over certain story beats that I didn't understand. Mainly the final war should have been the continuation of Furiosa's growth and it gets glossed over pretty hard. Furiosa's growth doing the transports is also glossed over, all of a sudden the man she's falling for is like "You've made it, you've done enough" basically. It felt like because of the budget the battles just aren't the same as the last release. It hampers her story to me. The end in general is odd, I get the need to want to connect it back - but why the nostalgia drop to the degree of even having Fury Road as the end credits. Why?
Spot on man. I've watched a few other reviews saying "it was good, but...". This is a straight up fantastic movie, and yes we are lucky that Miller has been able to make them. I mean Dementus drives a chariot pulled by 3 bikes, and the middle one has an aircraft engine! Lol how do you even think up something like that. Hemsworth steals the show. He delivered so many good lines, I love that he went full on aussie accent. So many memorable scenes...his relationship with young Furiosa, the symbolism with the Teddy bear, the intense meeting with him and Immortan Joe. Even the side characters are clever & creepy. There were shots in the tanker battle where i said "How in the world did they get that shot?". The effects are top notch. Worth every penny. Go see it in the theatre!
I have seen this movie twice already. The second time around I picked up on different things. The Cinematography, Haunting Villains, and great story telling really knocked it out of the park. Great movie!
What I really love about the movie is that it subverts expectations. Not only in the revenge element, which was awesome. I was fully expecting the movie to end in a big action spectacle of the citadel vs demento's people, but instead they skipped through the whole "40 day war", because that wasn't the point. The point was furiousa and her personal revenge story. Instead of a big spectacular action sequence, we got a personal revenge climax that shocked everyone. Really great stuff.
Yes, the end shocked me. The cruellest revenge i‘ve ever seen (a bit too much for me, because I‘m not a fan of revenge, i can take it here, because it is only a movie).
no fury road but furiosa stands on its own and lives up to the world of mad max imo. wasnt sure how i felt about the movie right after seeing it but then hours later i had an urge to re live those moments and see it again so i know it was good.
Saw it, loved it. This one confirms to me that there are a million different stories that could be told within this universe (but I wouldn't really trust anyone but GM to be able to tell them with any real fidelity).
SPOILER: There is a wild blink and you'll miss it easter egg where you see Max from the back with the iconic GT Falcon which at least to me makes Fury Road and the classic films feel way more linked.
I wouldn’t call it a blink and you miss it when the whole movie basically pauses to give you a badass wide shot with the Falcon in the foreground. It’s also heavily implied that he saved Furiosa. Like he’s the only way it makes sense for her to get from being passed out and bleeding out in the desert to the citadel.
@@liampugh dont think Max save her. There no reason Max save unknow person just like that. The people in the ground may pick here up and put her in the rot chamber.
I loved this movie, but it was weird to me that Joe just...didnt care she became what she became? And didn't even acknowledge that she escaped her duties as a future wife?
@@amorojaz27 That was my interpretation too. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t believe she ever gave him her name as a kid. As such he wouldn’t make the connection between the adult Furiosa and the girl with no name who escaped from his harem years before.
by the time he would have heard about her, all he would hear is that a random woman (he likely never saw her up close in person as an adult until she returns without an arm) is now working with praetorian jack. considering how jack's entire crew was wiped out, even if she's a full-life, he wouldn't have wanted to take her for a wife and significantly worsened their ability to not only get guzzoline and bullets, but at the time they were also in conflict with dementus, and she was one of the best fighters, along with jack. he's an obsessed egotistical psychopath, but he's been established to be very smart. he knew leaving one woman there would save many less skilled warboys and other citadel men.
To me, the fact that in the beginning of the movie she chewed through the fuel line on the motorcycle to try and escape was foreshadowing what she did to her own arm, and I see it as the definite explanation for what happened there! Excellent movie.
The only thing that bothered me and that I could not ignore was how Immortan Joe’s son Richtus was insanely jacked in Fury Road then just out of shape in Furiosa, he must’ve lifted a ton of weights in between movies 😂
I hope we get more... this was so refreshing to see in the cinema! Sucks to see how much the box office is struggling. Breaks my heart a little bit because you could tell this was a labeor of love from the entire cast and crew.
I overall enjoyed the film but I was surprised how much they lingered on young furiosa. Also, it kind of bugged me how immortan Joe was so mesmerized by young furiosa then never acknowledged her disappearance and emergence again? There’s a masterpiece somewhere in there.
Anya Taylor-Joy and Alyla Browne are amazing Furiosas. I really like how the movie takes it time to tell the story with Young furiosa. and Dementus? wtf, what an amazing villain! also, probably the best role i've ever seen Chris Hemsworth playing. it was sick as fuck. the only thing that I think could be improved: more music
This was an OK follow up. The story, characters and acting are dope. Loved the relationship with Jack. But it’s really hard to look past the heavy use of CGI when Fury Road felt and looked so practical, and I think that’s why that movie was so enjoyed. Also, that random Max cameo, like, cmon.
This movie is a masterwork of action despite its visual flaws. George Miller’s new inventions such as the motorcycle chariot, the bobbyknocker, the parachutes were all insanely badass. Such good stuff that made up for the lack of practical effects.
The critics who compare this movie to Fury Road and find it lacking are wrong i think. It's simply not trying to do the same thing as Fury Road. I realized early into the movie that this was a revenge movie, plain and simple. That's really the engine that's driving it, and it's pretty amazing. The action sequences are sometimes long, but very well thought out so they don't *feel* long. The detail Miller put into every scene, and the way he designed the camera movement was brilliant. I loved it!
Obviously I knew that at some point Furiosa would prove herself to Immortan Joe and he would trust her, but I just thought it was funny how she suddenly just stopped pretending to be a boy and no one seemed to care or remember that she was originally an escaped wife. Lol
I get weird vibes from Chris when he starts to speak about revenge. To me the greatest stories are the ones when the hero forgives, against all the expectations, otherwise it's just whose imagination is more wicked
I agree. But that’s what Dementus said: they were both dead inside. Just like people who can’t forgive. I think like you, and i was convinced that George Miller wanted to show us that Furiosa as heroic as she was had a very dark side to her and filled with hate. But the comments here show how satisfying that revenge was for some people. So i concluded that the film doesn’t force one perspective on us, but leaves it to the audience to decide how to judge her decision (which is very wise).
@@Suedetussy I agree with the points you made. It's just sad that Chris (who is my favorite reviewer anyway) glorifies revenge so much. I wouldn't bring that up if this wasn't done periodically. I remember smth like "movies nowadays don't get how to do a good revenge" in other reviews as well.
I’m genuinely surprised Chris didn’t connect Charlize Theron’s loss of home scene with Anya-versions desire to go home. The narrative across the two movies stuck me so powerfully; FURY Road (hint hint)
I just watched this film last night and damn I had a great time! Hemsworth finally got to go full, natural Aussie, Anya Taylor Joy was great as Furiosa, the action was really clever (surprised Chris never talked about the aerial combat), and it absolutely grew the world and lore of Mad Max. I am excited for more Mad Max, but I am sad that, despite how fun the film and action was, three was so much CGI. We were treated so well with Fury Road in terms of stunt work and practical effects that b this film didn't leave as much of punch as its predecessor. And hearing that AI was used in making some of the music absolutely horrifies me. STILL, hopefully things can be improved upon and we get The Wasteland in the near future. It far future, we just need more Mad Max.
I’ve told other people that this movie is very heavy into lore and character expansion, so when I saw that they brought characters like the People Eater and the main Bullet Farm guy back with the same actors that was pretty cool to see! On another note since it was talked about this morning I am very disappointed in the amount of money this movie is going to make this weekend, including the holiday. I really want people to go see this movie and I don’t know why it’s not getting traction.😔
@@amorojaz27 I know that was pretty cool and thinking back on it at first I thought it didn’t make sense given the timeline but then I thought about it and it actually does make sense sort of
one thing i noticed with the peach seed; she takes it out and uses it to bite down on whenever she's doing something painful, like cutting her hair (probably cutting her scalp a lot) or fitting her prostethic arm. it's like the expression "bite the bullet".
She isn't biting it... when she doesn't have hair, she keeps it in her cheek. The sound it makes is actually Furiosa pushing it past her teeth into her cheek, and then keeping it there until she has hair again.
I so agree with you about the revenge ending! I was so satisfied. Like, he made this whole speech about how he is basically in Hell and would do anything to feel and how he needs more and more pain for any sensation at all so she gave him not just what he wanted but also what he deserved. Epic.
There's a great oner in Furiosa. When Dementus has captured Furiosa and Pratorian Jack. There is a continuous shot from when Dementus gives his speech to the bikers, ties up Jack, the bikes start dragging him, and then the camera follows Dementus and cuts when they hang Furuosa from her left arm. The shot is seamless and well done. You'll miss that it's a oner if you're immersed in the movie.
When Furiosa ripped her arm off, she lost the star map, so she couldn't find her way back, this hit me so late and so hard
Fuck, I didn't even realize that until reading this comment. Damn this is such a good movie
I'm pretty sure with the amount of time she's probably stared at it shouldn't she have it memorized? I haven't seen mad max but I will now and I hope she makes it back home.

Dementus first time going to the citadal is prob one of the ultimate 'you picked the wrong neighbourhood" scenes

The revenge done to Dementus was like something out of Greek & Roman mythologies. It was as sweet as the peach from the tree on top of him. I’m from Korea and I recognize a great revenge movie when I see one.
That's why it flopped 😂😂😂 no one is interested in that shit 💩
With Dementus at the top of the citadel and the tree growing from his stomach, I was reminded of Prometheus chained for eternity having his liver eaten, anyone else?
Mad Max definitely feels like a modern day mythical saga so this feels apropos.
Maybe this is how immature my brain is, but for some reason, I didn’t think of it growing out of his stomach I thought about it growing out of somewhere else else😂😂
stomach ? you watched different movie.
Yes, that was my first thought too, but it also has its unique angle on it. I loved the narrator, for example, explaining Furiosa's reasoning.
Or Harold from Fallout, once he becomes a tree later on.
Furiosa enriches fury road with deeper meaning
Immorten Joe is awesome in this movie. Definitely shows how tactical he could be and why he'd have such a following
But that said - as with all of them - this needs to be seen on a big screen, so I hope more people do that.
many people criticizing it without viewing it
Did you watch Hope and Glory - The Mad Max Fan Film?

The scene where Furiosa escaped from Dementus with her arm stuck on the truck sent chills down my spine. That is one of the coolest character moments I have ever seen from a prequel and it made me respect Furiosa even more than I already did in Fury Road. The final confrontation with them is just as chilling and awesome. This movie is awesome and I kind of want to see it again.
I almost screamed out loud when her arm hit Dementus' wheel, it was shocking (i knew she was going to loose her arm anyway as what Fury Road told us) that i didn't see it coming how she lost her arm like that
How many prequels are there? Like 20?
And none of Dementus's crew who are surrounding the pit and the truck for all those hours see her escape?
I was shocked by how real the arm looked. They lite that just right and you're right. I swear after sitting there during that sequence seeing the arm for sure caught me off guard.

Buying the 4k Blu-Ray of this day one for sure.

This movie makes up for anyone who felt Fury Road lacked story.
There were still a ton of dangling plot threads that don't go away just because Dementus did.

i saw somebody else give an opinion saying that the music (or lack thereof) is meant to show the profound sadness in this world. there are many points in fury road that glorify the violence, and make things such as the war its sacrifice as something epic and glorious. however, in furiosa, it focuses on the pain and struggle of this world. when the war boy throws the grenade and he goes with it, there’s no music glorifying his sacrifice, it instead is silent to show the tragedy of a man killing himself for a person that does not care about him in any way.

There aren’t too many movie characters I’ve seen that have the presence and impact of Praetorian Jack, in a pretty brief role too. SOME PEOPLE JUST CANT BE SATISFIED. IT'S AN EXCELLENT ACTION AND ADVENTURE MOVIE.
I think those are dissatisfied are people who haven't seen it. Or they've let their preconceived opinion of it ruin their experience.
The movie is said from Furiosa's perspective and she wasn't part of the war so it makes sense.
I also loved the fact that everyone believed it was a man who followed them. But it was a mother.
But it's been a while since ive seen it
Someone mentioned it!!!! I think he actually helped her
@@guitarman0365yes but that was after this movie chronologically .....
@@darahdoyle3176 I read another comment saying they thought it was prob just the maggot cave people who had found her.
Big spoiler question below.
Was that Max on the cliff when Furiosa fainted and did he bring her to the citadel? I'm a little confused by that moment.
Yes, right at the end of the cast credits. It says Mad max (i forgot the actors name, was not tom hardy)
it was, not played by tom hardy though, miller thought to have a cameo from max and used hardys stunt double from fury road, who also worked on this one
I’m not sure about him bringing her to the Citadel, but it was definitely Max. Probably just for a little cameo.
@@lucaschrimes1215 Awesome, thank you.
@@georgedixon8669 Cool.
You're right, people don't deserve Miller making more Mad Max for us. And after this weekend, we've proven we don't deserve it, and we won't be getting any more.
The first thing I said to my buddy last night after watching Furiosa was "this should have been a tv series."
Whether that was from greed on my part or just wanting the world fleshed out more, who knows.
@@kp1x literally this. loved the chapter storytelling. and “more fleshed out?” it went much deeper plot-wise than fury road.
The 40 day war series would cost billions.
From my view, I think it’s best to go into this with the knowledge this is not “Fury Road” 2.
Me, too. Loyalty and support does not always have to be romantically motivated. It can also come from a pure heart.
I just watched the movie. It's incredible. I liked it even more than Fury Road.
On a sad note: It's Saturday and the movie opened this week, still there were only 8 people in the cinema. Such a shame.
same my fam is four people and we had the cinema to ourselves
Same just got back from theater 2 hours ago, my daughter and 4 other people in large FX cinema auditorium. Plus is my 16 year old daughter thought she wouldn't like it and length, but she dug it!
Funny I’m from manhattan nyc and 6 people left as people gasped the more it dragged and grunted at the cgi hair lol I give it a 7.5
I washed it twice. It’s amazing. Yes I would’ve preferred more practical less CGI or better CGI, but the movie as a whole works and I pray people see it in the theater.
Cgi wasn’t that bad I was surprised the movie looked so good yes there is cgi but it didn’t feel like it took me out of like other movies do.
I think they did the CGI for the budget, how long it would take to film and the sanity of the crew as I heard Fury road was incredibly difficult to film.
Yeah CGI is bad especially the background in some parts and when some of them getting caught on fire it looked fake.
Why?
I also was curious as to why they used actual fury road clips in the ending credits .... ??
It's such a shame that this isn't doing well at the box office because after seeing it yesterday. Wow, what a movie!
SPOILER:
There is a wild blink and you'll miss it easter egg where you see Max from the back with the iconic GT Falcon which at least to me makes Fury Road and the classic films feel way more linked.
No need for a spoiler comment on a SPOILER VIDEO.
Towards the end, right? whenever he’s overlooking Furiosa going back to the Citadel?
Blink and you miss it if by blink you mean close your eyes for 30 seconds
Right. It's so brushed over
He probably didn't recognize her.
@@amorojaz27 That was my interpretation too. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t believe she ever gave him her name as a kid. As such he wouldn’t make the connection between the adult Furiosa and the girl with no name who escaped from his harem years before.
@@seanbinkley7363 plus, she was able to work in the Citadel for years without anyone catching on she was a girl.
by the time he would have heard about her, all he would hear is that a random woman (he likely never saw her up close in person as an adult until she returns without an arm) is now working with praetorian jack. considering how jack's entire crew was wiped out, even if she's a full-life, he wouldn't have wanted to take her for a wife and significantly worsened their ability to not only get guzzoline and bullets, but at the time they were also in conflict with dementus, and she was one of the best fighters, along with jack. he's an obsessed egotistical psychopath, but he's been established to be very smart. he knew leaving one woman there would save many less skilled warboys and other citadel men.
The movie is awesome. I'm still thinking about it after a couple days. Being in the wasteland for over 2 hours is a good time
To me, the fact that in the beginning of the movie she chewed through the fuel line on the motorcycle to try and escape was foreshadowing what she did to her own arm, and I see it as the definite explanation for what happened there! Excellent movie.
Saw this last night in IMAX. Definitely my fav movie of the year so far and I’ve seen every big release . Such a worthy prequel
saying this was better than dune 2 is insane.
I reckon it was better
The only thing that bothered me and that I could not ignore was how Immortan Joe’s son Richtus was insanely jacked in Fury Road then just out of shape in Furiosa, he must’ve lifted a ton of weights in between movies 😂
Nathan Jones is clearly off the juice these days
Went yesterday, gping again today for a 2nd watch. Thanks for the insights.
I hope we get more... this was so refreshing to see in the cinema! Sucks to see how much the box office is struggling. Breaks my heart a little bit because you could tell this was a labeor of love from the entire cast and crew.
This is why I'm the crazy guy sitting in the very front rows at the Cinema.
I loved it!
GO SEE THIS FILM!!!!!
Five more times!
This movie have any adult content ?
@@tigranbarseghyan5143 Yes. I‘m team Forgiveness, too. This is what makes us more developed humans (and mentally healthier). I understand you.
I also felt there’s also a metaphorical aspect to cutting off her arm, as it had the map to her home
The best film in the franchise. Epic in every way. Absolutely cinema worthy. .
This movie had the best story telling out of the franchise.
not as good as fury road lol
@@barry4134you’re high
@@alexo.3758 and thats a bad thing? Kinda hard to beat perfection. Especially as a prequel.
@@barry4134u didn’t watch it liar. thundersdome is the worst film easily
I’m genuinely surprised Chris didn’t connect Charlize Theron’s loss of home scene with Anya-versions desire to go home. The narrative across the two movies stuck me so powerfully; FURY Road (hint hint)
Holy crap! I’ve just came back from the rhater watching this masterpiece and I see your video!! What a treat ❤
I love some of these bike gangs fell out from their bikes in the background its hillarious and surreal at the same time 😂
Loved how Feminist and badass Furiosa is in this movie! Fantastic performance
Max Rockatansky himself gets a cameo towards the end.
@@amorojaz27 I know that was pretty cool and thinking back on it at first I thought it didn’t make sense given the timeline but then I thought about it and it actually does make sense sort of
@@OrionInSpace there's a fan theory that Tom Hardy's Max is the feral kid from The Road Warrior. Miller debunked it, but I like it.
@@amorojaz27 so that was max. I was wondering well watching the movie "wait that's max?" the car and the way he stands. But I wasn't sure.
Hey Chris, I just wanted you to know that your peer pressure is the reason I saw Furiosa today at the theater.
one thing i noticed with the peach seed; she takes it out and uses it to bite down on whenever she's doing something painful, like cutting her hair (probably cutting her scalp a lot) or fitting her prostethic arm. it's like the expression "bite the bullet".
Epic.
Praetorian Jack reminds me of Solid Snake everytime he is on the scene
There's a great oner in Furiosa. When Dementus has captured Furiosa and Pratorian Jack. There is a continuous shot from when Dementus gives his speech to the bikers, ties up Jack, the bikes start dragging him, and then the camera follows Dementus and cuts when they hang Furuosa from her left arm. The shot is seamless and well done. You'll miss that it's a oner if you're immersed in the movie.
