    Growing up in the 90's ( I know I don't look it) I can't believe I am watching a video review where a Skoda wipes the floor with a Mercedes Benz ! The Skoda is everything the ID4 should have been and more, it's got issues of course they all do, however over all it's a great all-rounder with pretty decent interior, high safety levels and amazing spec lists for the money. Even looks better in the metal than it appears in videos.

      I'm on my 4th EV & my golden rule is that I only buy EVs that were designed as such from the ground up. I have also owned 4 Mercs in my time which had 2 things in common, their expense & lousy electrics, so how could they possibly make a good electric car?!!!!

    • @lubosmotl5200
      @lubosmotl5200 3 года назад +1

      @@wilkoone9155 - Yup. Just imagine how irresponsible the managements of these German carmakers are towards the taxpayers when they promise to totally switch to EVs, a new discipline in which many of them are likely to remain completely uncompetitive. It's crazy. The main Škoda factory in Mladá Boleslav is designed to produce petrol Octavia along with Enyaqs, the only VW Group plant that does both types in parallel. They may slightly change the fraction of each type but I hope that no one is promising these very risky transitions. Czechs don't like it. Enyaq is so good partly because the nation understands that most of the changes that EVs bring are actually bad for the driver and the company should better be as conservative as possible, to keep the standards from petrol cars unless the new EV replacements are really considered an improvement by real world drivers.

I basically have always liked convertibles but I was so excited about having an EV I bought the Zoe because it was cheap and had 180 mile range (nothing before that other than a Tesla had decent range). I found the Zoe very dull and was constantly justifying it to myself, it was a very practical small hatchback for people who aren't bothered about what they drive and very cheap to run (servicing less than £100 if you don't have the cabin filter changed). I am going to upset people who love their Zoe I know. I test drove an E 208 - loved that other than the price and it not being convertible (Zoe ZE50 with R135 motor and LED lights also a big improvement).

Now driving a new Kia Soul EV. Almost as bonkers as the Smart Roadster (quicker than the SLK too) and you can get a Kia 5 year service plan for less than the price of one Merc B-Service. We're saving about £150 a month in Diesel that the XC40 D4 used to drink (another bad buy). We had 3 Skoda's which were great, but now after owning a Kia, I see no reason to look anywhere else, especially looking at what is in the pipe-line with their EV range to come.

    This shoot-out is almost ridiculous - there´s no contest. The Enyaq is a lot roomier, both in the cabin and in the boot, it has much bigger battery, slightly lower consumption and obviously better range. And it´s still cheaper. And why are you talking about refinement as a plus for the EQA? There are lots of reviews out there showing the Enyaq to be quieter than the EQA, even with 3 (!) inches bigger wheels. With the same wheel sizes the Enyaq is much more refined. Finally, the Enyaq looks much better, IMO, both the interior and the exterior.

    Team Nicki definitely!!! I had for a test the EQA during the last weekend and really enjoyed it. I was able to reach 380 kms with one charge and knowing that this unit is not the one with the longest range, is pretty good. Pros in my opinion are the suspension, drive comfort, silent inside the cabin even at 130 kms/h, nice and quality inside and outside. Feel absolutely like a full Mercedes Benz. Cons, not much space in the trunk, maybe the wheel is so soft when you drive but I have to say that when you are parking is excellent. The seats are very good but I miss the massage options for a long distances. I know that options aren't cheap but I will recommend that if you buy this car you need to buy the 360 cameras, the HUD and if possible, drive assistance. The car calls the attention when you drive it and guess what... I liked!!! So Nicki, I am in your team no matter what the others could say... at the end of the day I prefer style and this car have it. Greetings from Spain!!!. The 125kW is a real 125kW charge. Whenever a brand says 100kW the charging system does closer to 80kW on average and 60kW in Winter. It is not just the number it is a standard and I doubt the Merc is a true 100kW charging car while the Enyaq is a real 125kW charging car.

    IMHO there is one vital point you are forgetting when saying that for EVs buyers, brand is less important than range... Range is not everything : efficiency is also of key importance !
    When thinking of buying an electrice car, the way the battery is used has an impact on your environmental footprint... Which is one of the reason why some people are switching to EVs, isn't it ?

    Keep the banter down and keep to the facts and this would be great. I see that an electric car from the ground up is better. I’ve driven the Enyaq and it was great. I loved it. There is a vRS version coming out too! The MB just doesn’t make sense in this head-to-head, in my opinion. I do get brand snobbery too but £‘s! No brained!😡😱

    Purely on boot space the Enyaq wins if you are a wheelchair user especially a fixed frame wheelchair that you don’t want to take the wheels off every time. Pity about the xtra cost of the two most important items, a heat pump, especially for winter use and the 150 amp charger cos you’d want it to rapidly charge whilst having a coffee break rather that paying for a night in a hotel, l mean how many hotels have a charging point at the moment anyway, certainly no Premier inn or Travel lodge

    EQA for a Couple , as a 2 Perosn car. Skoda for a family. That's kinda it. You have to see the usecase. If no one is sitting in the back, who cares about it? For a short run with 4 people? Not problem with both at all. So see the usecase. For most person, getting this as a business car the Mercedes might be the smoother option as it offers more comfort.

      TESLAs existing 2170 batteries and software already work better and they are ending those for their new 4680 batteries and new manufacturing techniques that are total game changers. VW and FORD and GM etc can NEVER catch up. They will ALL go bankrupt in part because all those factories that they have around the world that are fitted to make ICE cars are an asset liability not an asset positive. They do not have the capital to convert them. Plus ICE companies have massive financial debt and huge union contract obligations. While their ICE cars drop in sales and their mediocre EVs sit on dealer lots. While every time they spend money advertising their mediocre EVs it translates into more sales for TESLA who spends nothing on air-time & press advertising. PS ICE brands who make too few or no EVs are paying TESLA hundreds of millions of $$ for emissions credits to avoid Billions of Euros in pollution fines. So on top of everything else the ICE dinosaurs are paying TESLA money to bring forward their own extinction.

      The total investment is around 800 billion Euros, in EV research and development and manufacturing. All three of VW's electric vehicle manufacturing plants have a zero carbon footprint, and are powered by 100% renewable energy..... VW are also the only car maker to have so far signed up to the legally binding Paris Climate Agreement, which commits to zero carbon by 2050.....

    Both are good but forbthe record, Mercedes is seen as a a luxury vehicle more here in the states than in a lot of other places in Europe. For instance, you get go to some countries and hop in a Mercedes taxicab. That's not really something you'll see here in America and if you do it's rare. So I think that luxury classification is over played at this point.

    Er, Tesla fans are very much into brand. In fact, to them, Tesla will always be ahead due to the genius of Elon Musk and some magical quality that Tesla is supposed to have. Now, Teslas are efficient. But, Tesla has a cult following and I guess non-cult people who just think it is the best EV for the money. Nio is trying to build a similar culture to Tesla. I'm not sure EV buyers are any less brand conscious than ICE buyers.
    The Mercedes, I don't know. Lots of piano black and overall, I'm not sure I'm blown away with the look of the interior. Yeah, maybe it is more refined. Maybe. The Skoda's interior looks nicer to me, if not in every detail. But overall, I prefer the Skoda's interior.

    • @Brian-om2hh
      @Brian-om2hh 2 года назад

      Yet despite all that, some - including me - have looked at a Tesla Model 3 and discounted it on several points. The example I looked at had ill fitting body panels, along with 2 areas of "orange peel" paintwork. The interior also had some creaky trim parts. The lack of a hatchback was a serious omission for me. I'd also watched Sandy Munro's RUclips video, where his organisation reverse engineered a Model 3, and gave their take on it. Plus I'd read many Tesla owners comments on Tesla based forums, and came away unimpressed. There were countless moans about problems, and the (very) hit and miss customer after sales service. So no, I gave Tesla a miss and went with a Kia eNiro. And 2+ years on, I remain completely happy with my choice. It has undoubtedly been the best EV for *my* money... but hey, we're all different.
