My grandfather, who lived from 1906 till 1997, was a Southern Baptist Deacon. He read the Bible an estimated 20 times cover to cover. His favorite question to test anyone who claimed to be a "man of God" was, "Who is the only man in the Bible that the texts do not account for his birth, nor his death?" Of course that is Melchizedek..... You would be surprised how many couldn't answer, Pastors included. I miss my grandfather more than anyone ever. I was 21 when he went home, and next month I turn 48, and it's still very painful for me, but I know it is not painful for him. My parents did very little of my raising, that was left to my grandparents. Can't wait to see him again and thank him for showing me the way to Yeshua. Otherwise, I was doomed.

He was given 1/10 by Abraham before the Tabernacle, Temple, and Mosaic law existed. Although not identified as such in the story of the 3 visitors who came to see Abraham before Sodom was destroyed, it is very plain that Abraham recognized the visitor, who he talked to like God, just 4 chapters after virtually worshiping Melchizedek.

@@evnstvn58 Look in Genesis 14 and the story of Melchizadek is in there. Also, Hebrews 7:3 says this: "3 Melchizedek had no father or mother and there is no record of any of his ancestors. He was never born and he never died but his life is like that of the Son of God-a priest forever." If Melchizadek were Shem, then Hebrews 7:3 would be incorrect since we know Shem's father was Noah.

There are various god's mentioned in Genesis, El-Elyon (God, the highest God) is one of them. Others are El-Olam (God of time), El-Roi (God that sees), and El-Shaddai (God of the mountain) are also mentioned. Melchizedek is not a name but rather the title of the Priest-King of the ancient town of Salem (from shalom-peace), which was renamed Jerusalem. The Hebrew melech means king, and tzedek means righteousness, which gives us king of righteousness. The god worshipped in Salem was El-Elyon. The story we have of David taking the city of Salem/Jerusalem, means he took the title as well, Melchizedek. This story can be interpreted as David honoring the patriarch Abraham.

You didn't mention the 650 years that was deleted from Genesis 11 in the Hebrew text so the Pharisees could defame the Lord's priesthood by fraudulently claiming Melchizedek was Shem. The Greek Septuagint and Samaritan Pentateuch have preserved the original timeline.

The other possibility for the identity of Melchizedek that I have heard is Shem, Noah's son. He was Abraham's ancestor, and therefore part of the line of Christ. And if you do the math, using the geneologies he was still alive at the time.

In Judaism we know that the man "Melchizedek" the King of Salem was actually Shem the first born son of Noah.

Actually the Hebrew Bible does not say " he was never born never died.'
That statement is made only in the Christian Greek Bible (New Testament) in Hebrews 7:3.
Judaism does not accept the Christian Greek Bible as Scripture.
