Who Is Melchizedek?

  • Is Melchizedek a priest-king in Salem, the pre-incarnate Christ, Shem, an angel, a heavenly redeemer, or the Holy Spirit? Various Jewish and Christian traditions identity him as all of these. In this video, Chad Bird draws upon his two years of research into ancient literature about Melchizedek. He takes us through the OT and NT evidence, the Dead Sea Scrolls, 2 Enoch, Josephus, and Philo to help us better understand this mysterious figure and to identify why he played such a prominent role in the Letter to the Hebrews.
    Here is Chad's thesis:

In the Hebrew origination of the word "Shem" is defined as: The Name (of Conspicuous Position) and is a direct reference to The Famous Name of The Hero from that story. It does not mean Jupiter... However, The entire description of one Biblical character is as follows: A giant who migrates by rolling who has a blood spot in his forehead and four obvious things with him which look like Brass, Iron, Black with white spikes and Silvery-looking objects, who becomes obvious at a great distance during The End Times. These are the words; Giant, Goliath, Philistine, Gath & a description of his 4 pieces of armor and the Stone in his forehead. He heralds in the new paradigm.. He is the fifth character out from the King (Zeus or Sol, the sun) and yes, Jupiter has all of those aspects and nothing left over... Jupiter, The Great Red Eye (reforming into the forehead as we speak), the Galilean Moons Io, Calisto, Ganymede and Europa, and if ignited to a short-term star would definitely be visible from here, and would in fact be "The brightest Star in the sky" and for one whole year out of every twelve is "...in the East"

IMO it is that the English texts of The Bible are 'Under Translated' in that they did not givve the meanings of things that look like the names of persons and things. "The Order of Melchizedek" means: 'Those people dedicated to The King of Righteousness, The King of Peace having true understanding of that King". Only The Son knows The Father, The King of Peace and Righteousness. Christ Jesus is of a group... The Order of Melchizedek. Being there is only one Christ Jesus for this Earth, this requires that YHVH has multiple Earths. Peace.

Read The Book Of Melchisedek by yourself and find out how clearly and simply Abraham calls and acknowledges Melchisedek as The Messiah. Do not let anyone put their own ideas into your head without verifying the facts by yourself. Of course it can sound logical, but there are many opinions that "sound logical" and are totally the opposite.
In The Book Of Melchisedek it cleary states AND EXPLAINS how all happened and how Melchisedek and Jesus are the same person!

Maybe because I’m a retired teacher, I do my own research and I bring Xeroxes of articles from my own books and I print articles from websites where there is an expansion or just a simple explanation of what we are learning in class. My current teacher totally ignores the printed material that I pass out to my classmates. I have an image I use with friends sometimes-“Bible blinders.” I just recently brought in an essay on the different approaches used to study the Bible, and I think it’s a shame that students wear these blinders and are taught to intentionally ignore other sources that could help elucidate what they’re reading.

_"Without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but having been made like the Son of God, he remains a priest unto all time."_ (Hebrews 7:3).
    *Let me get this straight...*
_1) No mother and no father_
    _2) No genealogy_
_3) No beginning of days or end of life_
_4) Remains a priest unto all time_
    _5) King of Peace_
    _6) King of Righteousness_
_7) Abraham knelt before Him and received blessing FROM HIM_
_8) Abraham gave Him a tithe of a tenth of all he had_
This can *ONLY be God,* but you are stumbling over the phrase "made like" that can be interpreted in different ways? Seriously? 🤨
For example, _"made like"_ could *very easily* refer to the fact that this is the Son of God *before* He was incarnate as a man.
You either have an agenda, or you have a very _"interesting"_ way of studying scripture.
_"Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am"_ (John 8:58)
Christ has existed from before time unto eternity. He existed before His incarnation as a man and He appeared to men in the OT as God.
He is who was walking in the Garden of Eden "in the cool of the day" in Genesis 3
He is the God that appeared to Abraham in Genesis 18
He is the God that wrestled with Jacob in Genesis 32
He is the God that Joshua worshipped in Joshua 5
Christ is Melchizadek _(King of Righteousness)_ that appeared to Abraham *TWICE in Genesis* before He was incarnate as a man
There is also very strong reason to believe Jesus is the "Angel of the Lord" that appeared many other times in the Old Testament, but I don't even include these here.
I should have stopped listening when Enoch 2 was mentioned. The "Second Book of Enoch" is universally agreed upon to be a complete fraud. A writing that is full of scriptural contradictions and is nonsense to the point of absurdity from the first word to the last. Also, if you want to argue that it is a "historical document worth considering" you are wrong. Just because it was written does not mean anyone actually believed the nonsense. There are many things written today that are complete falsehoods that no one actually believes, the same held true for ancient writings. Enoch 2 is a piece of garbage that should not be in any discussion, unless...
*_unless your agenda is to muddy the waters and confuse the issue so you can give your own personal view of Melchizedek that does not follow scripture._*
Unfortunately, I listened to the entire presentation and discovered a view based more on *_opinion_* than it was based on *_scripture._*

Thank You Mr. Bird. I tried reading more about Melchizedec on a number of occasions, and I'm Christian, but so many faiths, from so many time periods, with so much diversity, only gave me one conclusion, No one on planet earth could ever piece out the actual truth about it all. There's no unscrambling scrambled eggs. I felt we only can go by what God has said, that we do know is truth. God picked Melchizedek, he was Civil servant King and Priest of a town, and God was proud of his ability. Abraham loved his nephew, and saved him, and Abraham gave tithes of his goods to Melchizedek to keep the town going, and Melchizedek recognized Abraham's contribution. Mel and Abram obeyed and loved God. Simple as that. God saw it in their hearts, so he gave them jobs to do, that needed a stout heart. And both men, did their vey best, made some mistakes, but they kept going.

My personal theory regarding the identity of Melchizedek is that (a) much like Enoch and Noah and the righteous man Job, he was a mortal Gentile who walked with God during a pre-Moses/pre-Law era, and (b) he was ordained directly by God to be a Priest-King in a similar manner by which David was later ordained to be king of Israel.
Other scholars might try to disagree with this view by claiming that Melchizedek was not a mortal Gentile at all but was actually the Lord Jesus Himself in a pre-incarnate form. This view is based on Hebrews 7:3a which says that Melchizedek was “without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life.” However, this line is also easily interpreted to simply mean that there is no written account of the man’s birth, death, or family lineage. And aside from this line, the rest of the chapter refers to the two figures as if they are two separate people. In fact, verse 7:3b says that Melchizedek was “made like” unto the Son of God and does *not* say that he *was* the Son of God. Further, if Jesus and the priest-king Melchizedek were actually the same person, then, logically, Jesus should have been both a priest *and* a king after the Order of Melchizedek. However, Jesus only continued the *priesthood* of Melchizedek as per Psalm 110:4 and *not* the kingship, but rather instead inherited and continued the kingship of His Jewish ancestor David, thus making Him a Jewish King with a *Gentile* Priesthood. Seeing then how David and Melchizedek, both being Christ-figures, are technically equals in this regard, it does not make sense for Melchizedek to be a pre-incarnate version of Jesus unless the same can also be said of David. And since Jesus and David, for obvious reasons, could not possibly have been the same person, there are no real grounds for making such claims about Melchizedek.

@@joshuab2437 I doubt it, mainly because we know about Enoch’s lineage (i.e., who is father and grandfathers were, and who his children and grandchildren were) and this would contradict what Hebrews 7:3a says about Melchizedek’s lineage being unknown. This same argument can also be used to dismiss the ancient Jewish tradition that Melchizedek was Shem. Hope that clarifies.

“But who do you say that I am?”
    Matthew 16:15.
And Peter wrote to 1st century Christians saying;-
“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”
    1Peter 2:9.

Melchizedek IS God Himself. The bread an wine He shared with Abram was the New Covenant that God cut with Abram as man's representative. The Bible says that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us..so the covenant to forgive his sin was cut while Abraham was still Abram, the sinner, the Gentile.. Abram gave Him a tithe, because the Bible says the tithe belongs to the Lord and Abram knew Melchizedek is YHWH. Believe it. Then read Psalm 110. Now, God is speaking to His Son Yeshua in heaven.. Yeshua is a priest forever according to the order that was established by His father, the King of Salem and the Priest of Righteousness, Melchizedek.

If you mean the 15:30 mark on the video, the reference is Hebrews 7:3, "He is without father or mother or genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but resembling the Son of God he continues a priest forever." The Greek verb for "resembling" (ἀφομοιόω) can be translated as "similar to" or "made like." Thanks for watching!

Consider this from the Joseph Smith Translation of Hebrews Chap 7 verse 3:. For this Melchizedek was ordained a priest after the order of the Son of God, which order was without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, not end of life. And all those who are ordained with this priesthood are made like unto the Son of God, abiding a priest continually". Of course it must also be understood that that through the centuries much of the scriptures have been changed in meaning depending on the agenda of the writers. Just saying, there are other explanations.

In the Book Melchizedek himself says he is placing the scroll in a cave and it will be found 4000 years hence by a Bedouin wanderer in the desert. That's exactly what happened. He said when it is found it will change the world.

Melchizedek is a title, not a name, although since priesthoods were passed in lineage it could be thought of as a Sir-name or "last" name. Thus Melchizedek is not so much a person as a lineage.
This can be seen in the oldest oral traditions, and Abrahamic texts.
Equating 'Melchizedek' to a specific person is a little like referring to everyone with the last name 'Smith' as the same guy.

    • @chadbird1517

Yes, that seems to be how Hebrews 7 handles it. When the author mentions the blessing that Melchizedek gave to Abraham, he points out that the greater blessed the lesser (7:7). He uses the superiority of Melchizedek to show the superiority of Christ. In that way, yes, God providentially arranged the blessing in Genesis 14 as a foreshadowing of Christ.
