Great review! I have the 28-75 and I love it. I'm wondering if I should get this or the 28-200... But since I already have 28-75, it makes sense that I go with the 70-300
I'm in the same boat, and IMO the 28-200 seems like a downgrade from the 28-75. It's a good lens, but from an aperture perspective it seems more comparable to a kit lens
Hi. Great review. Just received this Len's this morning. Time to try this Len's out. First impressions are great love the weight and feel of this Len's. I've used Sigma the Sigma 150-500mm for airshows that were all day long and at the end of the day I was shattered. This Len's will be a welcome addition to my gear for airshows. Thanks for sharing your view on this Len's. Your input made my mind up to get this Len's. Many Thanks for your view on it. All the best from the UK. Stay safe
As an owner of the 70-210mm f/4 from Tamron, I’m a big fan of how they’re approaching this space. I hope they’ll eventually release equivalent lenses on the RF mount at some point.
I would definitely choose the Tamron 70-300mm F/4.5-6.3 Lens. The size and weight is much more manageable. As a news photographer/videographer, it is clear that in the past equipment was designed for bigger hands. At 99 lbs, the size and weight works for me.
Is this lens for great videography with Sony a6400 ? Both haven't image stabilization ... Please tell me which is better lens Tamron 28- 200 or Tamron 70- 300 for videography and photography both ...
Since I own all of the Tamrons I don’t see why this wouldn’t be a hit as well. I really need the 300 mm end for some birding and this would fit for sure.
In the DPreview they complained about cats eye bokeh but it seems you didn't have the same issues. Seems to me to be a great value lens, though getting a used Sony 70-300mm 4.5-5.6 might be almost double the price but is it worth that over this? For video I would say yes, for the OSS in the lens but at the same time I am debating the 70-200 f4, ahh! I wish Tamron or Sigma would make a 1,000 dollar 100-400mm f4-5.6, now that would be a dream come true. Cheers for the review and excellent beard mate, wish I could grown one like that, or maybe I'm just lazy with it lol
It depends on what I was shooting and what kind of trip i was taking. If I was backpacking and taking only one lense, i'd probably go with the 28-200, simply for landscape purposes, but if I only had one lense for any kind of trip, I'd likely go with the 70-300 because it specs in lighter at 1.2 instead of 1.27, which they must have done on purpose in design for added attractiveness. Both seem really great compared to my Sigma 150-600 that I use at ~4.3lbs, as I just can't really justify hauling it on a backpacking trip. Still, I kinda wish they made a 28-200, and a complimentary 200-400 f4.5-6.3 that I could take with me backpacking, as I think they could get the 200-400 down to around 2.5 lbs or less and make it around 850$ or less. What do you think?;) Let me know in the comments below if you think Tamron and customer base would benefit from it?!
@Foto4Max I'm sorry. Simplified it comes down to weight and overall use for me. The 70-300 weighs less than the 28-200 by a skosh, and then using the 70-300 would prove much more valuable for depicting detail on backpacking trips for me than the 28-200 would.
Nice video but why are you shooting at F5.6 on those landscapes? The quality didn't look very good because it wasn't sharp across the frame. You should be at F11 in that situation.
This looks like a great lens... I would have seriously considered this lens if it had been available when I selected the Sony 70-350mm as my telephoto lens... The OSS of the Sony lens is nice because these lenses are pretty slow but. the price of the Tamron would have been the decision maker. I shoot with both full frame (A7iii) and crop sensor (A6600) cameras. The fact that I am limited to crop sensor format with the Sony 70-350mm but, that is no problem since I always used my 100-400mm Canon Mark-ii lens on my crop sensor Canon 7D Mark-ii and never felt limited by the crop format...
The SP stands for Superior Performance and they are top of the line high resolution lenses. The Di stands for Digitally Integrated for Full-frame and APS-C.
wow Tamron just keeps coming out with great lens, for the price this would be great lens to get 70-300 mm lens. I do have Tamron 28-75 2.8 right now on my Sony a7iii. the last time i was in Moab was 1996 in august and it was really hot!!
Where is this the smallest 70-300mm?!?! The cheap old Tamron 70-300mm without VC was 116,5mm long, the VC version is 142,7mm an the newest is simply the biggest with 148mm, even without the VC and just F6.3 instead of F5.6 like all the others. Even the Sony is just 143,5mm but a bit thicker.
@@TheSlantedLens It's just thinner, but not shorter. Like I said, the Sony G is 143,5mm and it is F5.6 with OSS. Sometimes I have the feeling, that Tamron tries to hide some of the lower specs just by hyping around.
@@TheSlantedLens Thank you, I know. And I also know Sony ibis is very bad for telezoom. I own the 70-180 and it's already very difficult to have a sharp shot at 1/125 sec. So I would REALLY not recommend a longer telezoom without OSS. I also own the Sigma 100-400. It has OSS and it's night and day compare to the shorter Tamron. Telezoom without OSS is a big NO.
@@terryvitanza28 I have an old Canon 100-300mm without OIS on my Sony and it's no problem to shoot at 1/60s. It's more or less the same as with my Canon 100-400mm L on the Sony.
As a owner of 28-75, this looks like my next aspiration.. thanks for the review

It is not available for Nikon.
I see you don’t use the anti flare caps. Is it unecessary, or it just the condition you were? (No bright sun)
It was just the condition. I was shooting with the sun to my back. They are very useful when the sun is to the side or in front of you.
