Huh, whoever criticized you for taking breaks. I actually think that you can be far more productive and efficient with breaks, trying to keep the energy level up. And if you don't exhaust yourself at your job, chances that you will keep on enjoying it are much better. Also, plant breaks
As a software developer in training, breaks are absolutely essential not only for your physical/mental health but sometimes when I step away to take a break and I'm doing something else, my mind is still passively working in the background and that's when I'm able to come up with coding solutions or I'm able to understand something I was having trouble understanding before :-)
Appreciate the pushback on the criticism you might have received in the past, it's easy to romanticize a WFH job like software engineering and it's nice to see that you try to keep it real!
just the fact that you feel the need to justify your breaks to strangers on youtube shows how toxic company culture is, but also how toxic people can be in general. keep up the good work and have plenty of rest 🙏 we weren't made for the hustle ✨

I found you because i was interested in NY city stuff but now I’m here because I just love the videos and the vibe. I know you can’t share everything, nothing is perfect and life can be very tough, but when I watch your videos I always get a motivation boost for my work life and I wanted to say ty :)
Also chiming in as a software dev, breaks are so necessary and sometimes unavoidable. It takes so long for projects to build and deploy, and the majority of the time of “development” isn’t a hands-on-keyboard experience. That’s just the nature of the job. Love your videos btw❤
Lol America. In most devolved countries there is legislation surrounding how workers must take paid 10/15min breaks every 4/5hrs of work. On top of any food breaks you might get. Only in America, where most jobs don't give 20+ paid days off a year, would taking one or two short breaks like that be an issue. Everywhere else it is pretty well mandatory because it is important for worker physical and mental health
Hearing about the process of working on a project sounds so daunting as someone who is in the middle of a coding bootcamp lmaooo. Also, taking breaks is key because it allows you to be refreshed and not be doing something for 8hrs straight. That’s how you experience burnout and can lead to developing an unhealthy view of work. Great video as ALWAYS!
It's so important to take your breaks. I actually start my day earlier on remote days so that I take a full hour for lunch to get out of my office. People are strange. Whether you work in the office or from home, you still need breaks.
For the musubi mold, place the nori down first, rhen the mold, add the rice, then the spam, push down with the top peice, and then you call roll the seaweed onto the musubi :) i hope that made sense lol
Thank you for the vlog and sharing a wfh day! I also work from home most of the week (which was a massive change since before covid, I was office based 5 days a week). I don't understand the criticism for taking breaks- do these people work straight through in their jobs?? I find I end up with a mix of days when I work from home- some days I will get and take regular breaks, others I will end up working through lunch or finishing later, no day is the same! I have learnt though, that not taking those breaks is the quickest way to stress and burnout!
Let’s talk about how I have missed you but also when you were in your office I thought someone else was in the room nope just mirror reflection. Lol Also love the text on screen about real life in business. Have fun with the fam. We want Day in the life of a New Yorker after work.
Wait, ppl criticise your breaks?? They clearly have not tried 8hrs+ in a full-time job! Our leaders say "every minute counts" and pushes us so hard. Sometimes I sit for 4 hrs not noticing my body at all :( The work we do demand so much brain power and concentration :/ Maybe people think working on a computer means looking at pintrest or tumblr or something??
Great video as always! Thank you so much, loved it. Also maybe my memory is bad, i've never noticed the floating moon next to your desk but damn it's cool :D
one from flexispot!! i’ve used it for a few months now and it was good but i’ve been getting some back pain lately because the seat isn’t fully flat - i prob wouldn’t recommend it but it does look nice 😅
Your desk is so clean! Also, maybe it's time to get a mouse for the bigger screen :P Btw love your day in the life vlogs! Hope to make one of my own someday :)
Hi, I had a question for you since you are in that field and have experience! I am currently in college for Software Engineering what do you think are the chances for me of getting a job in that field as a lady that wears a head scarf and covers the face due to religious reasons? I would really appreciate if you can tell me what you think!
Hiiiiii Sarah I am new to your channel and I think you and James are absolutely adorable together❤❤❤❤ I enjoy watching your content and am very interested in what James sews and where can I purchase???
do you have any tips for sitting down for a long time? i constantly have to be moving and i cant sit longer than 30 minutes and then when i get up ive lost my motivation to work
Get like a moveable footrest thingy if your legs are feeling restless. I have one that changes angles and I just push it around while I work. You could also get a standing desk and even use some sort of exercise machine whilst standing like a mini treadmill or something, depending on what your job entails.
^^ +1 to the footrest and standing desk! i have a standing desk and it helps so much when i want get up and stretch but not leave my desk / get distracted :)
Hey, I noticed in your bedroom you have a print from Matisse’s famous “Blue Nude” series. This series is actually racist fetish art of Black women, inspired by Matisse’s travels to Africa. facts!! burnout culture is so toxic and working 8 hour days is so much more manageable when we take breaks ❤️

As a software engineer sometime u need that 15 mins break once a while to clear ur mind from coding block.

You definitely need breaks when working from home and/or working in front of a computer all day. Ignore the haters. Love your videos!
