Back in the day, computer manufacturers would put solenoids, bells, and speakers in their minicomputer/terminal cases to make people feel like they were using a typewriter. It's also not super hard to make it work, if you feel the need to learn fine soldering and microcontroller programming solely to further a meme.

I have a keyboard and the space bar scratches pressing on it because there is a little metal thingy inside and it literally hurts my ears while gaming

That solenoid idea is so awful. I love it. I am building a macropad and that sounds like an amazing addition. Probably won't even be the last thing I tack solder right to microcontroller.
I have a very old keyboard with a solenoid in it. It was common back in the day. It is actually not awful and provides some tactility.

I told you to put in a solenoid too. They were standard on a lot of the OLD IBM keyboards (if you're considering a Model M to be a "new" IBM keyboard).
If you look at some keyboards like the Model F, they're still designed to support one.
I think most likely they will work far better on fully metal cases.
Making the keyboard play sounds doesn't count - it's not even coming FROM the keyboard!
You probably could install a speaker in a keyboard ... some of the older IBM keyboards had those too :)

I don't know how and why, but a while back I felt the need to get a new keyboard. Did some research, and here I am, watching some goofy videos while waiting for my Varmilo to arrive. This hobby seems oddly addictive and it's strangely satisfying to just listen different keyboards being typed.
This channel is my favorite of all I've come across. Your content is super informativ, well made and fun to watch. Plus I really like how goofy you are, and I mean it in the most positive way possible.

If you were to take an IBM model M or the Unicomp equivalent with the buckling spring key switches, and slit the corners of the keys up to the tops so each side is free to vibrate and turn that contact vibration into noise, you'd likely eclipse these but retain a perfectly working keyboard...

If you want the loudest keyboard, just drill a hole into the battery, and if it doesn't make a loud noise, place a lit match underneath it.

No joke, I have a Koolertron keyboard, that I bought from Amazon in 2015, that is the loudest keyboard I have ever heard in my life. It has some kind of knock-off blue switches that are obnoxiously loud. Literally the worst stabs you've ever heard. Cherry profile thin ABS caps and the switches are basically exposed on top of the keyboard. I had people stop chatting with me on discord because of it. Like they would never answer a call from me again. My Akko 3087 Horizon is definitely a huge upgrade lol.

As cool as mechanical keyboards are, I don't think I will ever own one since they are expensive. But I still love watching you do these builds!

@@nursenaceylan3706 Yeah I looked into it, but in Canada once you add up shipping, duties, and conversion costs it exceeds my budget too much. Perhaps in a couple years once I am finished school and have more of a disposable income :)

I got a decent mechanical keyboard off ebay for $30 and I'm typing this with it right now. And it does use the Cherry MX Blues featured at the beginning of the vid, which was one of the things I was looking for but I'm gonna get made fun of by the community for making everyone's ears bleed with it.
Specifically, it is a das keyboard Model S Pro (I got a Mac version but it works with Windows as well, but maybe that's why it was so cheap since I don't think there is a smaller market for it).

What you really need is a bigger case, get a big metallic case that's just hollow af and mount a pcb on some screws and it's gonna get you evicted from the rental

It's like the phones with the camera bump in one of 2 top edges when you put the single screw there like when you do a scratch test it with wobble instead of keeping its postion.
