    Another tip I would add, and I'm not sure how many people need this but is it's ok to prioritize yourself sometimes - a dead healer is no healer. Sometimes I just feel bad if I need to use pain suppression on myself for example lol

    My best tipp ever was:
    Use ur Cooldowns!
    A Stasis for example has 1:30 Min CD, u can use it on nearly every second pull.. Theres no need to have CDs 10 minutes not used.. except u know there is a boss or so coming next where u need it.

      It also helps a lot with mana management. Popping a CD and throwing a few heals manually, uses much less mana than trying to do the same throughput with only manual healing. Which also may save time from drinking, etc.

      This is a big one. I loved to hold on to my cooldowns when I started healing. Had to consciously use them more often. It's so insane that all "topplayers" keep telling healers they should spec into damage talents to help out in M+, because "EVERYONE should be helping in a group" (as if keeping said group alive isn't very very helpful) and when healers do so they're being yelled at for not healing enough. Why are there such high expectations? And why are people suprised healers are hard to find?

    • @glkification
      @glkification Год назад +3

      I agree that expectation management is a really significant thing that doesn't get spoken much about in WoW. When pugging there's often someone in the group who is surprised that the other people in the group are not playing 100% as they expect (running different talents, not knowing skips, not being on top of all interrupts/mechanics, etc). It's a huge source of anger for them and is the root of a lot of toxicity in the game. That's not to say that people should lower their standards - absolutely not! Aim to play with great players at your own level who you can have fun with! But when pugging with total strangers I think there does need to be more forgiveness and flexibility as standard.

    So true, your point about consistency. In SL I ran with a tank who was constantly "experimenting" and wanting to try different strategies even when what we had done in the past was working perfectly well. This led to many keys being busted that could have been timed. It was stressful and frustrating for me as a healer, and led to me not running with that tank anymore in DF.

  • @Relativizor
    @Relativizor Год назад +13

    One particularly good trick is to drop all the meters. They are there for when the key is done. This makes it easier to focus on keeping the party alive.
    My own advice is that you need to get a grip on what keeps your attention. You only have so much time to react, and if you focus on the wrong things, then it gets a lot harder. Most encounters are orchestrated and will have things happening in a certain sequence. If you understand this, you get a far larger attention window and this improves your gameplay a lot. It's mandatory for the more proactive healers out there, but the more reactive healers benefit as much from this understanding. "Attention Management" keeps the party alive.

  • @LegendaryOldwarrior

    The only thing with the networking for someone like me is I don't want to end up being friends with people and they go looking for me every time I get on game. I want to have the freedom of logging on and not worrying about getting hit with whispers from people I met in pugs. I am a healer and I do get some invites to friends list after a run however I decline them. I think it's great if you have that time to do that, however, for some of us older folks with 60 hour jobs and family life, just don't want that added pressure of I have to help them since they sent me a message. I hate to be rude to people and not answer or tell them every other day I don't have the time. Just easier for me not to friend people. I know it sucks but I guess that is life.

    • @ishambenafghoul3742
      @ishambenafghoul3742 Год назад +1

      I'm in a pretty small guild with the majority of players pushing past 20s at the moment and even then it's hard to build connections there since almost all my guildies already have their own groups they run with. I go out my way to get the small minority of guildies who pug keys like me to form a group with each other whether it is through guild chat, discord, or even whispering in-game but I had no success so far. So far the only way I really built connections with people in this game is doing lower level content (relative to what I usually do/what my goals are), finding chill players there who are always looking to improve and helping them through higher level content. I actually did this in back BFA season 2 and made two friends that I pushed with consistently. They even both ended up surpassing me significantly in IO at the end of season 4 but they don't play WoW anymore unfortunately.

      Like many things in life it's a numbers game. You're probably not going to get the first job you apply for, not everyone you ask out is going to say yes, etc. During Legion I was a shadow priest (awful m+ spec at the time) on a dead server trying to push m+ and nobody on my server cared about it. I brought as much utility as I could to offset the downsides of my spec such as making call outs for interrupt order in discord if the tank wasn't handling it. When I'd run with people I enjoyed running with I'd try to add them as friends. A lot of them turned me down but I eventually got to the point where my friend list was 100% full and I'd have to find people to delete in order to add new friends. The first people I'd delete would be the people who were never available. I eventually grew to the point where a lot of the people I'd added early on weren't capable of doing the key levels I wanted to do, I still tried not to remove them and to occasionally run things with them but I did start adding a section to my friends list of people to delete next and I eventually purged some of those to make space.

Also, I still am using a 389 trinket from s1 bc it still puts out a good 7-10 Million healing passively which saves me a lot of mana. I tried using it with 424 trinket I have this season & it is 6k hps loss. You won't find it recommended on any guide sites, but don't sleep on the primal ritual shell.

But having no one to play this game with is literally no ones fault but your own

    Dps need a way to gain DPS by doing things like dispelling/healing and healers need a way to gain healing by doing things like dispelling/dpsing
    If you do this good enough, then it won’t be a problem for DPS to help out with utility/DPS/mechanics because it will benefit their DPS.
    Similar to how DH gain 20 fury on silence and evokers gain damage from healing.
    Reward good gameplay and people will perform good.
    Dps only care about DPS so if a DPS casts a heal/dispel/utility or interrupts their DPS to perform a M+ mechanic then they should be rewarded with ways to do more DPS because of it.
    Same for healers.

    I'm one of those "PUG heroes". I've managed to time 18 keys with pugs. I'm deaf though, and that isn't something that people are receptive to. I guarantee you I'd be higher than 18's if people were. People are always looking for "VC", and if you say no, then you're done-zo. Zero engagement after that, as if being in voice is the one single factor that brings you success. They want nothing to do with you.
    It doesn't matter if you know your class like the back of your hand. It doesn't matter if you know you have fantastic spatial awareness. It doesn't matter if you AOTC, or if RaiderIO tells you you're top 100 of your class on your server; if they think you can't play the game, then you can't play the game, and then you don't get to.
    It's not only about content either. I'm on an RP server and at one point myself and a friend were looking to join a big PvERP guild and the GM had asked us to join VC for a "get to know you" session. My friend had pointed out that I was deaf and he'd responded to her with "That's okay. Some people just don't work out for the guild, but you can still join."
    Everyone is looking for a reason to gatekeep you. Always.

    Doing enough M+, you will be able to grasp what goes wrong in a deplete. Either a tank doing idiotic pulls, 1 dps doing half the dmg of the others, or you screwing up CD-s, falling behind or similar. Know when it's your fault, and don't be afraid to admit it, but also don't let people who fail and automatically look for someone else to blame to bring you down. It can be hella demoralizing to think you are a bad healer because someone auto-blamed the healer. Also, don't stress about depleting pug keys. It happens.

    I love how these top players live in a world of illusion. What are you talking about? level 24+ stones? Time left on level 24 stones? Can you understand that 97% of players in this game don't even reach level 20 stones? dps focused healer? My dear, 60% of healers can't even deal with Brackehide's first boss dots, let alone dps. Wake up brother, you're not talking about the overwhelming reality of most players, you're in a bubble of 3% of the top players in this game. Talk about exploring new strategies??? Who does this to pugs??? Do you really think that the majority here play with closed groups and organized by audio?

      Seems to me you didn’t even listen to the video?

    No need to watch a 10min video. Wanna be the "best healer"? Join the best group. The group's performance is far more impactful than anything a healer can do.
    Seriously though. Experiment. Imagine encouraging people not to experiment. "Just do what has already been done" sheep. It's definitely one way to stay in front; telling others to follow.

    Just get good. If your sitting at 1k dps the whole run as the healer then just know your team is hard carrying you. Don't be that guy.

      At least in my book, hard carrying means the group could just as well run without that player and they wouldn't be much worse off. I know healerless runs are a thing now, but only for a very specific group composition. Unless you're talking about that, I suppose you have a somewhat hyperbolic definition of "hard carrying".
      And, before the suspicion is even raised: No, I'm not a 1k dps healer trying to justify my own failings or something like that. :p - I'm just not a fan of statements that devalue the healing portion of the healer role.

      @Christian Knuchel It's just not really how WoW works.The bottleneck for a lot of these dungeons isn't really healing this time around. It's mostly your team's ability to burst down a priority add or totem that spawns. Any GCDs you're spending on unneeded healing is just wasted damage, which can be far more impactful. The healerless runs do kind of demonstrate how little is actually required.

    Top tips
    1. Don't play wow
    2. Don't play mythic and think you're good at anything but fighting the computer
    3. Try and realize that mplus pushing is for turbo nerds with no motor skills.

      Sure, because the pillar hugging game mode where the win goes to the team that manages to perma-CC the other team's healer first offers a that much greater range of sophisticated skill expression.

    Networking is just not possible in EU either. The good people are already playing with each other, I gave up on s2 altogether. I'm so sick of pugging as a healer I never want to touch m+ again
