The 4 GB RAM/128 GB SSD Celeron Win 10 version has lately been on sale in the US (Amazon, Woot) for around $270. I upgraded from 4 to 8GB RAM & plugged a 128 GB Sandisk mini Flash drive into one USB port -- adding up to about $330 for a substantial laptop. The ability to swap in more RAM, a bigger SSD (if needed in the future) and replace a dead battery makes this a semi-ruggedized, high return workhorse with a real future, as long as you don't expect workstation-like graphics performance. Thanks for the review -- it was quite helpful.
Just got one of these. I must say, I never thought I'd use touch features that often but this device has changed that. It's quite a joy to use and I find myself using Touch more often than not. The only issue I have with the 11e is its track pad. It just plain sucks which is originally why I began familiarizing myself with it's Touch features. It's ultra portable, its built to withstand a fair amount of abuse, and it performs admirably for the tasks a netbook would have. I really love this thing, lol. So simple and easy to use. GREAT review on this model too, btw. Thanks for the video. PS: A friend sold this to me for a measly $50 cause he couldn't get Touch features to work. I had it working within a couple days with some driver installs. Awesome purchase, lol.
+Master Shake WOW.. $50 is a massive bargain. Mine, with the upgrades, cost me £550 - which is a lot more than Lenovo charge in the USA. The track pad on mine was a bit twitchy, but I changed the SATA drivers and updated the Lenovo core dependency drivers and its working a lot better.
Hello Nic Bunting, The Fn keys can usually have their purpose switched from within the system BIOS/UEFI. Also, a good/inexpensive USB DVD Burner is the LG USB 2.0 Ultra Slim External DVDRW Model GP60NB50 (it uses only one USB port and tends to cost around $25.00 USD). Best wishes and thanks for the review.
There's no BIOS option for the Fn keys on the 11e (apart from swapping the Fn and Ctrl keys over because some people like Ctrl on the bottom left of their keyboard), instead the Fn key mode is toggled on the 11e by pressing Fn + Esc which is a bit easier to control and doesn't require entering the BIOS. As the 11e is primarily for education, the BIOS is most likely going to have a password on it anyway - so locking the Fn key mode in the BIOS might cause hassles. The external DVD drive also works with a USB extension cable from the second port too - so an irritation rather than a problem, but I thought I'd point it out because Lenovo list the DVD-RW featured in the review as being an accessory for the 11e that a customer can add to their cart before they checkout and buy the laptop. Either Lenovo shouldn't list this model with the 11e, or they should include a suitable extension cable for 11e customers to avoid disappointment when everything arrives.
It is definitely not an iPad... and you are right - it does look a bit heavy and thick in tablet mode, but you can hold it in one hand. I tend to use laptop mode and tent mode the most though. +Sumanth Neerumalla Thanks for the nice comment! You should be able to run VS... although the newer version of the 11e has a faster CPU and I'd check for an SSD and fit one if yours doesn't have one - it makes a massive difference.
+Karim Sameh Thanks! I used to lecture and run a Microsoft Academy before I started my own computer company. So although Lenovo do not pay me and RUclips earns me about £1 per month, I do sort of do this professionally. I tend to post videos of things I've looked for and couldn't find.
The video features a first gen model - which I don’t think supports pens. The later version do though. So it’s a good idea the check which generation of the 11e you’ve got or have available to buy.
It is a wonderful device, but I am facing difficulty with keyboard shortcuts, and now I cannot use my device because I was not able to put @ with my account. How can I put the @ sign with my email? Please reply?
where were you able to purchase this? im thinking about buying one for myself on amazon but sadly there are no yoga models only the clamshell type but its all good since its what i need. deciding between amd A4-6210 vs the intel core M models. Great video btw! kudos
+Francis Jacela I bought mine directly from Lenovo just under a year ago... but it's now EOL and is replaced by the general YOGA range. A shame because the 11e is great for travel and when I'm working on site.
I'm hoping that the one I'll be purchasing from Amazon won't have any problems whatsoever. And also thanks for the video tutorial on replacing the HDD with an SSD. Would have made a huge mistake taking out the back cover if I was unaware
+Francis Jacela Thanks! Glad it was helpful. Note that the newest Windows 10 installation allows you to install and activate Windows 10 using the previous OS key - so you don't need to install windows 8 on the SSD before you upgrade to Windows 10.
+Nic Bunting hey sorry for asking so much but I was wondering, were you able to upgrade the RAM to 8GB? If so, do I buy another 4GB stick or buy an 8GB stick?
+Francis Jacela Mine came with the 8GB upgrade - it added £36 to the cost I think. There's one slot - so to get 8GB on a 4GB model you'll have to take out the 4GB and fit an 8GB module.
I just got mine a week ago and sometimes when I open it, the touchpad doesn't work. It's really annoying because I have to fiddle around with opening and closing it until it works again. Do you experience this?
Can you tell me what cover you show that is unique to the model? I heard U Zen? Hard to make it out and I cant seem to find it on the lenovo accessory page.
thanks for the in depth video, I struggled to find any that wasn't a promo. I am considering buying the 2016 version with the SSD just for a secondary computer where I can do a bit of Web browsing and word processing however, is it good enough to handle football manager including the 3D mode.
+parchment52 I cannot really say... but seeing as PC games tend to have a range of video settings I would expect it will work. Which version of Football Manager are you looking at? There might be a demo version I can try on my 11e.
I'm sorry for the barrage of questions, but you are the goto guy for the 11e XD Do you know if this laptop comes with a trial ofMS Office? If so, how do I activate it?
Not sure if it did because I tend to uninstall the preloaded versions of Office as a matter of routine. You can download the trial and activate by buying it but if all you do is Word, Excel and PowerPoint then save your money and use OpenOffice or Libre Office for free instead. They are essentially the same and fully compatible.
What maximum ram and rom (ssd) capacity it holds lenovo thinkpad yoga 11e gen 6 with intel celeron N3150 and do you have any tips to upgrade the laptop
It depends which generation, obviously, but a quick search for your model number should produce that information. Main tip is to put replace any mechanical drive with a solid state model and then tweak background Windows activity to reduce CPU overheads.
Hey, im thinking about buying it for university as alternative to the big brother thinkpad yoga. do you think the digitiser pen of that would be convertible with the 11e if i'm installing some software?
Couldn't say for sure as the screen isn't a proper digitiser like you get on the pen enabled Yoga models, but I don't really see why it wouldn't work with a suitable pen and OneNote.
Yeah I know it's gotta be 7mm. Just was unsure as to the actual capacity of drive it would take. I assume it doesn't matter, but was unsure if the bios or a firmware may have only allowed for up to a certain size drive to be used. Like I said, a 240GB or possibly larger SSD is what I want to throw in it. Thanks for the help.
+Master Shake Not sure of the upper limit, but Lenovo had this with a 500GB HDD option - so I wouldn't expect any problems whatever size SSD you decide to put in.
My model does not support a pen - which would be handy. A clean install is essential to remove all the rubbish Lenovo put on. It was a fiddle to get the right drivers installed after doing that. SSD is essential as adding one makes a massive difference to performance. The latest models are a great evolution though.... even if they have vanished from the Europe web site.
Can you maybe give dimensions of the interior of the work in case? Im considering getting for a 12in thinkpad despite it being for 11in, but the dimensions might fit a thinkpad yoga 260 per the website. Curious why this case has ZERO reviews when it looks so useful for this segment of computing.
It does look good... but... I never use mine. I just use the slip case and then keep the 11e in a bag I use when I am working. Although it looks like a good idea, practically the work in case is not that great - you cannot, for example, use the YOGA tablet and tent modes with it and having an extra bag to carry seems silly when the smaller Lenovo laptops will happily fit inside another bag.
Thanks for the quick reply! I would certainly take it out for tablet mode, but I wouldnt need any other bag as this machine will mostly be used on the go in my truck or wifes car and if I needed to take more it would easily fit in my day pack. :)
It fits the 11e well - so the interior dimensions will be the same as the dimensions for the 11e itself. I think it would struggle to fit a 12" model - to answer the original question.
+xXDahChubChubXx It's a great keyboard... like all the Lenovo laptop keyboards. It's not backlit, but it does have solid keys with good travel - which is always a problem for laptop keyboards.
Nic Bunting Yeah that is good since i have to get non Yoga 11e for school next year and i need a laptop with a good keyboard since i type a lot and previous school computers that i have used in the past have not been the best
I managed to get the one with the Intel Core M5Y10c from the Lenevo outlet. It's pretty fast and quiet, it's a passively cooled CPU but you can enable Fan cooling if you wish (fan has never come on while enabled). Only issue I had was visible and annoying refresh lines while trying to watch Hulu on battery but I disabled one of the option in the Intel graphics setting under the "Power" option, I don't remember what it's called and I don't have it on me but it had to do with "Screen optimazation" or something along those lines, once disabled the issue went away.
Quick update... the Lenovo Active Pen Pro does not work with first gen 11e models. The current 3rd gen 11e is pen friendly (you can get a pen added when configuring in the Lenovo shop) and once Lenovo get the screen shortage problem fixed I'll order a 3rd gen and have a play.
+Master Shake It's a laptop so it takes the 2.5" drives... but the drive needs to be 7mm thick. This is mentioned in my other video which deals with 11e HDD replacement/upgrade. You can see it here: ruclips.net/video/HDvQJrX8zJ4/видео.html
I don't speak or read Russian... But I put the above into a translator and it looks like you're talking about the laptop/tent/tablet mode switching. If 0 degrees is the lid closed, then 0-180 is laptop, 180-350 is tent, and fully turned is tablet - which is when the keyboard and touch pad should disable themselves. The exact transition points vary a little but if you're using tent then your going to flip the screen past the 180 degrees quickly to reach an angle that lets the device stand up. Also for tablet mode you're going to flip the screen right over quickly. So I wouldn't worry about the exact transition points if the device does to table and tent and back to laptop when you expect it to. The software and drivers needs to be installed for that to function - so any fault with that could be due to wear on the lid and hinges. But I don't know if the mode switch is done by a sensor on the hinges or by some kind of internal tilt switch. Here's the Russian... Hope it helps!
Nic Bunting So the screen is laminated to the glass then? Sorry for being insistent, I'm considering buying this laptop and it is pretty much my last concern before the all clear
Yup... didn't go over the ports in it and I got an extra cable for mine, just that out of the box the DVD drive doesn't work. Sold the one in the video years ago and they no longer make the 11e series. Shame, because it was a great device.
The RAM in my 11e is Samsung branded 8GB PC3L-12800S-11-13-F3 and the exact part number is M471B1G73DB0-YK0 I have just looked on Amazon and it costs £35.00 - www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-original-204-pin-PC3L-12800-1600MHz/dp/B00I21G832 I would suggest to fit that rather than anything else - just in case there are compatibility issues.
Remove the main battery and the CMOS battery. See this video for location... ruclips.net/video/HDvQJrX8zJ4/видео.html It's the blue circle visible after 4:25
CPU on the model in the video is not socketed - it is surface mounted directly to the motherboard, so you cannot change it. To keep the device as thin as possible I expect all the 11e devices will have surface mounted processors. The model featured is a 1st gen but the CPU is actually pretty good for general work tasks - adding an SSD makes a massive difference to overall speed. I cover this in another video.
+Dsdude It's not fanless but it is quiet... there's a small fan that's approximately below the number 5 key. But it is a really quiet fan (33db @ 22cm on load - which is essentially background noise levels anyway) and if you have the SSD version then there's also no HDD noise. As it's meant for educational usage and Lenovo did consider noise - a classroom full of students each with an 11e would be a problem if the computer made noise. If the fan is running (which it doesn't do unless it really needs to) then you can only hear it if you put your ear right next to the rear grill.
I think pressing Fn + Space turned it off and on... with different levels of brightness - pretty cool for a tiny low cost device like the 11e. If there's been a reinstall then you might need to download some software to get that to work... this is an old video now and I've not got this device anymore, but this is worth a look... See here: pcsupport.lenovo.com/gb/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-11e-series-laptops/thinkpad-11e-20ed-20ee/downloads/driver-list/ Look under 'Software and Utilities' for the Hotkey driver after you've chosen the OS you're using. Hope that helps.
Thanks for doing a review of this laptop. It's the first I've seen of the windows version. Do SD cards go all the way in? Or do they stick out a little?
Richard Dawe SD cards go in all the way. It's a proper SD socket with a clicking eject mechanism - presumably because the Chrome version relies on an SD for additional storage and the card needs to be left in. Having the 'normal' sticking out type socket would obviously be a real problem I that situation - and Lenovo have thought about that.I took a photo to show you - see the description for the link.
The 11e in the video is first gen... so no pen support. The latest sixth gen has pen support though... so should be a lot better with Photoshop. Screen size might be an issue though.
can someone please send me some closeup pic,s of WiFi modem of this laptop yoga 11E.? actually in my laptop WiFi modem is missing and i am so tired to find it out, it would be more pleasure to have a product link
USB3and USB2 both are 5V but USB3 offers 4.5W rather than the lower USB2 power of 2.5W. These are both nirnss as lily enough to power up an external drive if it’s a 2.5” SSD or conventional 2.5” mechanical drive typically used in laptops. A 3.5” mechanical drive will usually need the 12V a SATA power connector CSM offer - so external 3.5” drives normally have a separate mains adaptor. Some 2.5” external drives required two USB plugs to be connected too. Hope this info helps.
@@sterntechdaddy "every little helps" I use a single socket with my external 2.5 drives on my old usb2 equipped laptop its just the luck of the draw, it's a poorly regulated (no pun!) standard. I have seen some with no regulation on the 5v usb pin they will power just about anything till they don't......
Generally, the touch screen needs both the Intel I2C and Intel GPIO drivers installed to function. You can get those from Intel, or see this link: pcsupport.lenovo.com/gb/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-yoga-11e/downloads/driver-list But obviously check the exact model of 11e you've got - the one in the video is first generation. Hope this helps. See my one of my other 11e videos… ruclips.net/video/7QB9zOg6bVU/видео.html The comments mention this problem quite a lot. :)
@@sterntechdaddy Hello thanks for your help, let me tell you, I already installed the Intel I2C and Intel GPIO drivers, and the touch screen does not activate, could you help me with another alternative to activate it?
@@jairomariduena5470 Look in Device Manager and uninstall the two 'Intel I2C Port 1' devices under System Devices - with the 'Delete the driver software for this device' ticked. See what happens after a reboot. That *might* sort it.
@@mambagaming4232 Pubg is available on Steam... but the first gen 11e is below recommended specs - you can download it and run it anyway though but I would expect it not t work. You cannot install the mobile version because the 11e isn't an Apple or Android device.
+miroslavsafin They are what you might expect for a device of this size, but perfectly OK for watching a film or listening to music. They lack bass, but there's a headphone socket if you wanted to add external speakers or headphones. You can also use Bluetooth to connect speakers too. Yes - it can be done using a setting in the BIOS. See this video ruclips.net/video/DkD22h-crNc/видео.html the section you want is at about 2 minutes 25 seconds.
This Lenovo originally came with Windows 8 so it’s not a Chromebook. But a quick search finds this… chromeready.com/7065/boot-from-a-bootable-usb-drive-on-chromebook/amp/ Hope that helps.
Lenovo are planning to release a refresh of this range in April, with higher performance Broadwell CPUs and an optional Full HD screen, according to news.lenovo.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=1911&cid=ww:social:132040033:130284492:FBPAGE:Lenovo:*%20Non-campaign%20Products&linkId=11864712 There's also a Dell Latitude 11 for Education, which seems a bit similar. See www.dell.com/uk/business/p/latitude-3150-laptop/pd?~ck=anav
Richard Dawe The DELL is a bit too much like a Netbook, which is OK, but the 11e has the Yoga screen which I really like. The new 11e features mentioned on that link look good - especially the pen, but it's already expensive for the screen size and CPU spec so adding extras are going to push it towards the 'proper' Yoga area. I guess we'll have to see what Lenovo finally decide.

Any follow up thoughts on it now that you've used it for a couple of years? What worked? What didn't work so well?
My model does not support a pen - which would be handy. A clean install is essential to remove all the rubbish Lenovo put on. It was a fiddle to get the right drivers installed after doing that. SSD is essential as adding one makes a massive difference to performance. The latest models are a great evolution though.... even if they have vanished from the Europe web site.
have you tried to boot up the laptop with a linux distro? i meant via usb bootable device. I heard the rummor about the new UEFI thing
Never tried Linux on my 11e so cannot really comment.
What is the keyboard like? Is it like the old Lenovo keyboards?
Hey Nic, can this device use a Wacom or N-Trig pens?
+Josh Warner Never tested it with one, but it should work.
So I can put any size SSD in this when I upgrade? I'm thinking of a 240GB at the very least for this thing.
ThinkPad Yoga 11e (3rd Gen).
Is the display laminated? (love the video BTW)
+scotianbank That's just the reflections from the digitizer layer.
Nic Bunting
So the screen is laminated to the glass then? Sorry for being insistent, I'm considering buying this laptop and it is pretty much my last concern before the all clear
scotianbank The digitizer layer is attached to the main LCD panel - just like in other touch screen laptops.
+Nic Bunting excellent, thank you for the help :)
you missed mentioning the ports and yes you can you the external drive....just buy a 1ft usb extension cable
Yup... didn't go over the ports in it and I got an extra cable for mine, just that out of the box the DVD drive doesn't work. Sold the one in the video years ago and they no longer make the 11e series.
Shame, because it was a great device.
You'd know me if supported and replaceable with this model of RAM DDR3L 8GB 1600M KINGSTON KVR16LS11/8 ??It is good for programming tasks? Thanks
The RAM in my 11e is Samsung branded 8GB PC3L-12800S-11-13-F3 and the exact part number is M471B1G73DB0-YK0
I have just looked on Amazon and it costs £35.00 - www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-original-204-pin-PC3L-12800-1600MHz/dp/B00I21G832
I would suggest to fit that rather than anything else - just in case there are compatibility issues.
Upgraded to windows 10 64bits, touchscreen didn't work anymore. Help
See the comment from 7 months ago… you need the Intel drivers.
I’ll copy/paste later - not at my PC at the moment.
😀
Hi Nic, could you please be so kind to show us or make a video of the bios options available on it. Thanks and have a nice day :)
+Jose Fuertes You can find it here ruclips.net/video/DkD22h-crNc/видео.html
Is there any way to factory reset them!!
Remove the main battery and the CMOS battery. See this video for location... ruclips.net/video/HDvQJrX8zJ4/видео.html
It's the blue circle visible after 4:25
Can you change replace the processor and put a different processor in it?
CPU on the model in the video is not socketed - it is surface mounted directly to the motherboard, so you cannot change it. To keep the device as thin as possible I expect all the 11e devices will have surface mounted processors. The model featured is a 1st gen but the CPU is actually pretty good for general work tasks - adding an SSD makes a massive difference to overall speed. I cover this in another video.
Very helpful! Thank you Nic!
Is this fanless? If not, how loud is it?
+Dsdude It's not fanless but it is quiet... there's a small fan that's approximately below the number 5 key. But it is a really quiet fan (33db @ 22cm on load - which is essentially background noise levels anyway) and if you have the SSD version then there's also no HDD noise. As it's meant for educational usage and Lenovo did consider noise - a classroom full of students each with an 11e would be a problem if the computer made noise. If the fan is running (which it doesn't do unless it really needs to) then you can only hear it if you put your ear right next to the rear grill.
Hi i have tried to light the key board with no luck any help
I think pressing Fn + Space turned it off and on... with different levels of brightness - pretty cool for a tiny low cost device like the 11e.
If there's been a reinstall then you might need to download some software to get that to work... this is an old video now and I've not got this device anymore, but this is worth a look...
See here: pcsupport.lenovo.com/gb/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-11e-series-laptops/thinkpad-11e-20ed-20ee/downloads/driver-list/
Look under 'Software and Utilities' for the Hotkey driver after you've chosen the OS you're using.
Nic Bunting
Great, thank you!
is it good for photoshop and digital drawing?
The 11e in the video is first gen... so no pen support.
The latest sixth gen has pen support though... so should be a lot better with Photoshop.
Screen size might be an issue though.
can someone please send me some closeup pic,s of WiFi modem of this laptop yoga 11E.? actually in my laptop WiFi modem is missing and i am so tired to find it out, it would be more pleasure to have a product link
It’s an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 mini PCIE card. But any mini PCIE WiFi card should work.
So something like this one: www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-Wireless-N-7260HMW-Intel®-Bluetooth/dp/B00N7474CS/
I thought the sockets were usb3 and so higher power than usb2, so my have been able to plug that drive into just 1 socket.
Hi, is in the tablet mode, the keyboard is disabled and become level similar to the Thinkpad yoga S1 or 260? Thanks
Yes... folding over into tablet mode also disables the touch pad too.
Please, I deactivated touch when updating the software of the lenovo yoga 11e, how do I activate it, who can help me
Generally, the touch screen needs both the Intel I2C and Intel GPIO drivers installed to function. You can get those from Intel, or see this link:
pcsupport.lenovo.com/gb/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-yoga-11e/downloads/driver-list
But obviously check the exact model of 11e you've got - the one in the video is first generation.
Hope this helps.
See my one of my other 11e videos…
ruclips.net/video/7QB9zOg6bVU/видео.html
The comments mention this problem quite a lot.
Hey can we install pubg mobile in this pc plzzz tell me !!???
I doubt it... this is a Windows device.
And it doesn't meet the minimum requirements for the Steam version.
Tell me about pubg can we download ???
@@mambagaming4232 Pubg is available on Steam... but the first gen 11e is below recommended specs - you can download it and run it anyway though but I would expect it not t work.
You cannot install the mobile version because the 11e isn't an Apple or Android device.
@@sterntechdaddy ook bro thanks. I trying my best to download pubg lite pc and it works now i am watching it runs or not !
@@sterntechdaddy bro what is steam plzzz expalin😢
How's the screen quality
+Cesar B It's not got a Retina or Surface 4 display, but it's still good quality. Viewing angles are good and the touch is responsive and accurate.
With the carrying case, in the first position you had the PC it would prop up the back of the keyboard making typing a bit more comfortable.
True, but the edges of the case rub your wrists and you can only use it as a laptop - you cannot use the other YOGA modes.
how are the speakers on this thing?
+miroslavsafin They are what you might expect for a device of this size, but perfectly OK for watching a film or listening to music. They lack bass, but there's a headphone socket if you wanted to add external speakers or headphones. You can also use Bluetooth to connect speakers too. It was meant for school/college usage so they could've been a lot worse than the are though.
+Nic Bunting will you have a chance to make a short recording of the speakers at max volume , and with the equalizer turned up to max volume in the software settings ? right click taskbar --> playback devices -->speakers --> properties --> enhancements-- > equalizer -- > crank up all the knobs
let me know! Thanks!
What version is it
The 11e in the video is the first generation.
HOW TO FIX LAG ON THAT LAPTOP?
Can you explain what you mean by lag and where you experience it?
What charger you use
The one on the video is the official Lenovo model that came with it.
how can i swap the FN and CTRL function?
Yes - it can be done using a setting in the BIOS. See this video ruclips.net/video/DkD22h-crNc/видео.html the section you want is at about 2 minutes 25 seconds.
How do I boot from usb on chrome
This Lenovo originally came with Windows 8 so it’s not a Chromebook.
But a quick search finds this…

Hope that helps.
Lenovo are planning to release a refresh of this range in April, with higher performance Broadwell CPUs and an optional Full HD screen, according to news.lenovo.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=1911&cid=ww:social:132040033:130284492:FBPAGE:Lenovo:*%20Non-campaign%20Products&linkId=11864712
There's also a Dell Latitude 11 for Education, which seems a bit similar.
Can u play games like minecraft and cs go
+Toms Kalverss Never tried... but they might work on minimum settings.
+Nic Bunting tnx
Mine craft yes csgo you will get low fps and terrible graphics
How much it cost
The one featured has the 8GB RAM and 120GB SSD upgrade, but Windows 8.1 rather than 8.1 Pro. It cost £541.00 - which is a lot for a small laptop.

This is proper old now though... have you just bought one?
@@sterntechdaddy Yes! Good a good deal on it, but it was refurbished with no manual and I was pretty disheartened when I couldn't find the on button.
@@kylechurch6296 It's nicely hidden... I think that's part of the school design - so kids can't go around turning each other computers off for fun. The button is recessed and needs a proper push to get it to work.
