I loved the game until the point they started with a guided linear playthrough. They tested it in Cataclysm which still was ok with having quests more bundled in hubs but after that it just felt like a story rpg where you run from Mainquest to Mainquest. I think the real magic of Classic / Vanilla is that it doesn't feel like you are the Maincharacter doing the Mainquest. You just roamed through the world and "met" NPCs that had tasks for you. The newer Add-ons are more like "welcome hero of the world here is your task now save everyone again".

Agree totally. They should deffo go back to this. But it’s at least hard to explain storywise compared to a complete new like Classic back then was. Cause our Charakter did already so much shit that it would be weird when every npc never heard of us or anything.
But to be honest - I give a shit about the lore nowadays. They should just do that and it would be totally fine for me. The last Addons had a foolish story anyways

My favorite reason for why WoW needs a reset was, again, I was in Legion or so -- and I started a new character to play with a friend who was a Goblin. So, the game starts with us rescuing the warchief of the Horde, Thrall. Cool! He tells us to meet him in Orgrimmar... where we meet the Warchief Garrosh, who sends us to do some quests. For whatever reason, the goblin wanted to do something in Undercity, where we learned about the warchief of the Horde, Sylvanas. We eventually were ready to help storm the Broken Shore, where the Warchief of the Horde Voljin is killed.

A lot of these things would be optional if they were not required by the community that plays the game at a medium to high level. Even after you get all of your best in slot gear, 12 enchants, gems in every slot possible, and a 2500+ M+ score you can be denied an invite to join M+20s because your spec was nerfed and no longer seen as viable.

That’s not even my problem. I just log in for a month or two in a season to play mythic plus till a specific point because I really like that content. I would love to have it as a separate game, so they could do much more with it.
But everything beside of that is totally boring for me nowadays and feels just outdated. Man I don’t wanna do stupid daily quests that tell me to kill 10 X or bring 10 XY. For me wow is no mmo anymore
And the third point is that the tab targeting combat system is fun with hard content, cause you have to press much shit all the time and everything matters. But in everything else the combat just stinks. It’s totally boring because you could literally kill everything with hitting one ability. That’s why I think a mmo with a Soulslike combat system would be absolutely nuts. Because every fight would make fun even when it’s an easy one

The shit you mentioned started with the Level Squish..... in Shadowlands... People are really making up stuff randomly to blame certain expansions. Cata really made Old World Leveling not a fucking mob-grind for Levels in the same areas over and over again (cause half of them had not quests, like Desolace, Felwood or Marshs), but meaningful, interconnected Storylines spanning multiple zones AND at least some choice were to go next. In Classic, its basically the same route, every single time, cause you dont want to end up in a zone with no quests, but to low level to progress. So on alliance, it usually was getting to Stormwind ASAP and then doing the Human route, while on Horde it was the same with Ogrimmar. in Cata at least you could coose between continents on either side. Hell, i leveled in some zones i rarely visited in my 2 years of Classic, like Stonetalon (never been there on my Vanilla Hunter) or Swamps of Sorrow and Blasted Lands. Look at Classic Hardcore. In all the Death-Compilations, people are dying on the same shit in the same locations every time, cause there is no choice, if you want to do quests and not just exp-grind killing mobs in dead zones.

      Give you a little insight from a new players POV;
I started out playing WoW retail, Dragonflight. Flying around on the dragons and everything just looked super dope to me, and Asmon really made me want to try WoW (been a RuneScape player since 04 and there was always a bit of a rivalry between the two games and players, so if you played RS you thought WoW was shit and vise versa so I never wanted to play until recently). I love melee and created an Orc Warrior. I jumped in the game and immediately was overwhelmed by EVERYTHING. The UI, the buttons, the amount of menus, and when you open the world map and really start clicking around you truly realize just how big this game is and how much content you need to do. I started leveling and the process was pretty quick. I got to level 10-11 my first night playing, EVER. They give you a bunch of abilities at the beginning of the game, like by level 4 you’ve got a decent skill bar going already. The game started me in the Battle for Azeroth area which was definitely a great area, thematically, in my opinion. I had no clue about any backstory tho and the game doesn’t do a good job of telling it, either. So I just progressed through the BFA story trying to pay attention as much as possible and level to 60 so I can do the expansion content. Well it took me about 7-10 days to hit 60 and like 3-4 more to hit 70. The Dragonflight quests were dope as fuck and the flying was pretty cool. I was having a lot of fun as a fury warrior and going back and forth between protection to “tank” dungeons and whatnot (I had no clue what I was doing cause the game doesn’t explain threat/aggro). Did a few PVP games with friends, did a few more Dragonflight quests, and then I was stuck. I had no clue what to do, where I was supposed to go, how to get ready for group content such as raids, etc. I looked up some guides and found out I had literally MONTHS more to go to be able to even attempt that kind of content. There were just so many things I needed to and the game itself doesn’t help you with that at all. I pretty much got to “end game” and got hard stuck. There was just way too much stuff to do and it was complicated as fuck. There’s a million items in the game, million spells/abilities, and in the dungeon boss fights I had no clue what I was doing.
It was just overwhelming with shit to do. They overwhelm you with abilities and shit right out of the gate. I stopped playing for a while, like 3-6 months something like that, then picked up WoW classic WOTLK and I’m loving it so far. Much slower game speed, much slower leveling, but everything seems more deliberate. Milestones actually feel like accomplishments and not just handouts or feel like you were rushed through content. You level a bit slower but you actually learn how to play your class because the game isn’t trying to speed you to max level. It’s so much more rewarding and the community is actually pretty helpful to new players. It’s definitely a harder game but I’m enjoying it way more than retail.
      Riip- level 23 Orc Warrior
      Grymrypr- level 17 Undead Warlock
      Slymrypr- level 13 Paladin
I’m going to level my Warlock first to max and then feed my Warrior gear and supplies to help with leveling. Warrior leveling in classic is brutal compared to retail lol. I’m always dying cause they have almost zero utility that early in the game and it’s harder to stay alive. Warlock has been such a breeze to level with and affliction tree is bananas.
TLDR; new WoW player gets overwhelmed by retail so he downloads classic and enjoys it way more.

I think with open world games like Elden Ring and the new Zeldas, players are hungry now more than ever to go back to the style of gaming that invokes discovery and adventure. That is the approach blizzard should take, and the design philosophy to implement. I'm not saying turn WoW into those games, but they really need to expand their quality level design to encourage more exploration. They would have to do a hard reset and gut the gear chase, but I think gamers have spoken with their wallets and would gladly invite this newfound purpose within Azeroth. I don't think the success would necessarily be felt immediately, but the longevity of the game would increase exponentially.

I will never understand this take. Literally why? Why do you actively want to make the story objectively worse by taking out any and all elements of depth? Why is it "pussy shit" for a character to share a sentimental moment with a family member(in reference to the Alexstrasza and Nozdormu thing mentioned in the video.)
That being said, I agree with the Anduin thing. Mostly because it's the stupidest way to do a 'return of the king' situation. The two best examples of this trope, Aragorn from LotR and Simba from The Lion King, didn't exactly willingly fuck off from being king because "I'm sad." It's a weak reason to abandon your people and it doesn't work as a narrative either.
However, I'm not about to extrapolate that and cry about "sentimental pussy shit" like some loser that apparently doesn't like emotions existing in any story that isn't anger and psychopathic bloodlust because apparently those are the only emotions they're capable of expressing. Internal conflicts of characters and a character's relationships with other characters are part of the story and part of what makes something a good story, and if you can't handle that, then that's a you problem. Cry a river about it, why don't you? How's that for your feelings?

The issue with the current gearing system opposed to classic and BC is that if you hit the max lvl, you start running dungeons and HC and you get gear that pretty much gets you in the current raid. I think there should be progress across all content (patches/raid tiers) within an expansion in order to get to the latest raid, all that content is sitting idle after the next raid tier and there is little sense of progression, which is also artificially messed with (low raid loot). I think loot should be better, but having to go through raid tiers before being able to take on the latest content. For late game use of dungeons there's already the mythic system anway.

Add to that aspects that consume 90% of your bank space and makes the whole experience just worse. If aspects were a content account-wide, not only you'd have more things to work towards, but it'd allow you to have way more options to build your characters. The more they take away spells and abilities the more their catering to people that can't think or focus for crap. Dumbing down spells and abilities has made gameplay feel lazy and boring, having a bunch of abilities to keep up with makes it more fun and interesting, imo. Frost DK for example, they've only become more and more boring to play as they keep getting abilities smooshed together or turned into passives. Sure boring is easier, but easier is lazier, and lazier is dumber. Bring back corpse explosion for all specs, give the abilities different effects to reflect the class spec, frost corpse explosion leaves a patch of frost on the ground slowing enemies, unholy corpse explosion causes a patch on the ground that causes enemies to become infected with a disease, blood corpse explosion leaves blood worms to leech life from enemies that are caught in the explosion radius. Give DK's back the spec aura's for party/raid buffs. All 3 specs should have permanent minions, just make unholy dk have variant types of minions with different effects and abilities. Having 1 action bar worth of abilities/spells compared to the old 3 action bars full of abilities. It sucks to me.

They could do SO much. Factions on specific servers could have player-driven activities which affect factions. Could you imagine enough Tauren players doing enough daily quests on SOME servers to break from the horde and become independent??

I can't help but notice how a lot of MMO's of the past that are still alive have the same problem, the games are over complicated and like he said impenetrable, they're unable to bring new players because of that, and i totally disagree when people say that removing abilities or stuff like that makes the game boring and lazier, you can totally have a fun combat system with depth without having a sensory overload, to find the sweet spot for that isn't exactly easy but i personally believe that if you take vanilla wow combat as inspiration and make it to be playable with a controller, you already got a great game
3 things i like about the combat in wow:
    - Aggro management
    - Line of sight
    - How your attacks and abilities have different range and/or area of effect
These are the foundations, and stuff like buffs, debuffs, hots/dots can be fun to manage but not when there are 20 of them!

I dont know if the M+ Rotation changed that, but i detested to not only reset your progress with every Patch. But to refarm 80% of the same gear. Run all those Dungeons again for the same Trinket etc, just with a higher ILVL.

Black deserts combat is phenomenal. I sank 3000 hours into this game and enjoyed every second of fighting.....

Great! I can't wait for the game to have 16 times the detail, 800% value, and a download size of 300 GB, because modern game developers don't know how to be frugal with assets.

If they don't, the game wouldn't look as pretty and people would just bitch and moan about a lack of graphics.
Meanwhile, I would love a move back to old-style graphics. Valheim was massively popular and graphically looked from the late 90s, so graphics does not a game make.

A Revamp wont solve anything . They need WoW 2 a 100 -200 years later with everything reset. Warcraft 1 - 3 and WoW became only memories and legends of might have happened. No characther is alive anymore and you use them on quests to explore the legacy.
Also, Alliance establiahed through Azeroth and Horde expanded through Kalimdor. Races are now independent, with no factions.

Varian abandoned the throne for the entirety of the classic wow storyline. Remember Anduin was Ward Prince with Bolvar while his father was away for YEARS. Thrall abandoned the Horde as well, this isnt anything new.
