i especially leave ports to open cuz brass color pipes around black boiler and turbine look so steampunk! (and turbine at front, boiler at mid, no condenser, a water tank and coal hopper on a tender behind it)
there should be a thing that you can boil water using gas instead of coal cuz most steam engines (mostly boats) are not coal heated anymore cuz thats too expensive (just put a gas burner under a boiler)
Loved the video MrNJersey! Would love to see you or someone on RUclips make a Stanier Class 5 "Black 5" Steam engine, like Henry from Thomas the tank engine/Thomas and Friends. Maybe even make some Freight Cars like the 7-plank "Troublesome" Trucks, or even the Boxcars from the Flying Kipper!
13:24 why not put a valve infront of the water in to the boiler and have it so it only inputs water to the boiler if the water level is below 0.1 and pressure below 9 or what ever you feel comfortable having your pressure at? its certainly better then wasting steam to the air.
i do this on my creations i have a pump that turns on when my pressure is below 9.5 and a blow of valve to open at 9.7 to prevent it from exploding. when starting it wil blow of a bit of steam but after that it wil stay around 9.5
I'm having a problem, I essentially have what you have built down to the smallest detail, but the pressure doesn't want to exceed 4.75, can I get some assistance in this matter. And to the video, its the clearest tutorial video I've seen in a bit.
Nice tutorial. I hope to get onto making some of these soon. Its a shame they didn't add some smaller steam components as well as more wheel types of we could make some smaller loco designs as well as configurations that aren't 4 wheeled as there a some nice 6 wheel designs I'd like to make. I've made 0-4-0 diesel engines before, but sometime they can rock too much due to being mounted onto a bogie and not 2 fixed axles.
Regardless of how I hook this up, steam pressure refuses to build past 4.5-ish, the condenser doesn't receive steam nor output fluids, and generators die almost immediately after putting out a trivial amount of power. Halp!?
Make sure that everything faces the right direction and that you're giving the system enough water. Also Instead of using and steam release valve, make the excess steam go to the condenser
I made a steam locomotive and saved it to the work shop. I called it Steam locomotive version 85. i think u should try it out. it was hard to make and took about three days it is revolutionary I think. it even has a water heater for when the water is pumped into the boiler. It has a very low running psi due to the fact that I added my own system to it to make it the most efficient.
Is it possible for you to do a tutorial for using this on ships, I just got the game and I'm so beyond confused by how everything works with making things functional. Especially focused on propellers, and paddle wheels, both side paddle wheels and stern paddle wheels.
Having variable wheel sizes and more train track would be fun. That way making a Union Pacific Big Boy would be of some intrinsic value besides looking cool. But I'm wondering if it's possible to speed up the boiler, and waste more coal, by stacking multiple fire pots onto the same lines. I'm gonna have to test, and probably explode, a lot of experimental platforms now. Time to wreck another world.
Mr n jersey the condenser I have on my steam train always builds up a lot of fluid volume overtime and next to that I’m having trouble cooling the condenser. What do I do to get rid of the fluid volume and what is the best cooling system for the condenser
Hey! So, my steam train's boiler keeps exploding despite me having the pressure release just like you said. Any reccomendations? Edit: I was able to fix it by changing the "Threshold" to a "Greater than." I put it so if Output A (the boiler pressure) Was greater than 8 (B was set to a constant number logic that had 8 as its value) then it would release pressure. I also added to pressure exhausts instead of one.
Or don't use a treshold gate and make the user try to survive while both loading coal and releasing steam at the same time. MUAHAHAHA Also would the temperatures go up faster if you put valves between each "part" so you only release heat to the next step once the previous step is at a specific temp? E.g the heated stuff from the firebox doesn't go to the boiler until the firebox is like 200(I think you said that gives about 100 in the boiler?)
Thanks for the tutorial! We copied part by part, but the boiler explodes. Release valve is working and having some effect - Still manages to reach 10 and blow up. Is the game bugged?
@@jonathantitterton9455 Yup, I guess. This and so the power generation modules were compatible with nuclear reactors too. Woul love to see some pistons though
If the pressure gets above 10 it explodes. I found if you use a valve with a limit gate (whatever it's called) setting it 9 to like 9 million and connecting the pressure to the gate and the on off output to the valve also connect a vent to the end of the valve. This should solve it.
I’ve tried a lot combinations, Multiple boilers for one turbine, multiple turbines, multiple boilers and turbines together as one unit, with steam and I can’t seem to come up with a powerful system. I have two that go between 8-10 kts, or about 4-5 m/s. The faster and smaller of the two is designed with bare minimum dimensions needed to squeeze the entire steam system into the lower hull while still looking like a cutesy ship, weighing in at 4600+ kg, while the larger slower one weighs in at 14,000 kg, uses two turbines with a single 🔥 and boiler reaching break neck speeds of the aforementioned 8+ kts. Both ships are set to about 9 pressure units max using the threshold method. All pipes longer than an arm length get online pumps to ensure maximum flow. Using two medium water tanks to ensure boiler doesn't run thirsty. One medium tank empties out and can often create low pressure drops if your plumbing takes up too much volume I *THINK*. Currently the turbines are too gimped overall. They need adjustment/buffs/balancing. Either we need more pressure tolerance, lighter parts somewhere, better turbine torque or some combination to make them practical for ships. Locomotives like I see in this video SEEM to do ok but that's without it pulling a train of course. All above is after spending the weekend building, then tweaking and testing my two ships, along with 5 static test steam rigs with various tweaks and gadgets to observe performance.
