The BTS members are such hard workers. They DESERVED to be treated with respect same with all the other guests. She should NOT have asked them during the second visit OR even ever. It’s a disgustingly rude question to ask and she should be doing research or at least know boundaries to RESPECT these guests. I also found it really heartwarming when they pointed at army when they didn’t understand thinking it meant if they ever loved anyone. It shows they really care for their fans and don’t just consider them people they make money from.
Edit: I’m actually really happy RM stood up for what was right in the place of the other members. It really shows how connected they are and how much they care about each other.
Yes it’s really none of her business whether or not they hooked up with a fan. Plus it’s really not in Korean culture to do that.

This is exactly right. When I, as a Korean, first heard Ellen ask BTS about hooking up with their fans, I was literally in shock. That was SO rude to ask them such a nasty question. No wonder what Ellen’s personal life would be like.

Even If so, she should have at least done some research on guests’ culture before the Interview, if she were the “respected” host on a world-famous TV show.

Just thought that most ppl would know that Asian culture is not that open to topics related to sexuality than western culture, and so did Ellen. But apparently not. She could have at least done better than that and should’ve been more respectful to guests from different cultures.
As you know, Ellen engaged in sexual misconduct, racism, etc. and that’s why BTS unfollowed her, I guess. She was a competent host in a way, but she’s got to learn some lessons and grow inside through this time. (Thanks for sharing your thoughts, though.)

I can understand if people outside of the west find it offensive/rude due of culture differences. Btw, "Hook Up" could mean either dating another person or having intimate relationship with another person. Direct translate a language to another will often lead to mistranslation.
Ellen does make people uncomfortable while interviewing, but you really don’t know what actually happened. BTS are really humble and they didn’t revealed anything or talked about never goin to her either. I don’t really like Ellen but just assuming what might have happened is just wrong.

Ellen does funny interviews with a thousand smiles but sometimes she only makes people who had come just to have a "chat" uncomfortable. This video is so dramatic, I think BTS should know what they are getting themselves into, the question wasn’t even as insensitive as she’s making it look, everyone was laughing and just enjoying being on the show. If they were SoOo uncomfortable why did they go in a second time? They liked being guest on her show and it sucks that because of army being so sensitive we no longer get to see them in her show but tbh who give a rats ass anymore it’s her last year and thanks to army I will no longer see them on the show that made me want to stan them in the first place.

I guess maybe it is a western versus eastern thing. I am westernized and I get that question a lot it does not bother me. However, I have noticed that those who grew up in Asia are uncomfortable with that question. Maybe they just clashed and Ellen did not do her research.

They gave her a second chance and she blew it. That was blatant disrespectful behavior on her part. It made me upset the first time, so I can only imagine how the members felt. So yes, it is unlikely that they’ll ever go back but they never made an official statement about it. We can’t just assume things and tell everyone our opinions are facts as if BTS said it themselves when they didn’t. Grow up.

I am an indian army and my personal opinion is that whenever a foreign interviewer wants to interview bts they must do a little bit research on kpop and bts . The way sakshma interviewed bts was very impressive . She didn't ask any uncomfortable questions but she asked very intellectual questions based on their hardwork, hardships in life , their career etc . In kpop dating has to be really private . BTS are soo busy on their comebacks . I feel that they don't get enough time to sleep . Jin also mentioned in his previous vlive on August 9 2021 that he sleeps like at 1 or 2 and the others like 3 or 5 . Jhope and jk did a vlive like at 12 30 am KST. If we see this they don't even have have time to sleep how can they have time to date? Armies don't bother if they date because they r 23 -28 year old boys so there is nothing wrong in doing it . I really appreciate how jimmy fallon knows how to respect others culture whereas ellen on the other hand is really insensitive. I was really shocked when ellen asked them abt hookups. About the dating question, of course they understood it immediately but what surprises me is that for any interview (at least with idols), the questions are validated way before the shooting and their answers are prepared beforehand so the question is: was this question not on the list and Ellen actually trapped them (which wouldn't surprise me...) ? 🤔

I understand cultures are different between Korea and United States. Ellen may not have known that it’s a taboo to ask dating or romance related questions to BTS. Based on the Kpop industry, the artists are told what to do/say and what shows to be on by their agency. If they have to go to Ellen show even if they are uncomfortable, they still have to. Usually when someone has a bad rep, they are cancelled in korea and no one wants to associate themselves with that person. Ellen has a bad rep now and the company probably dont to associate the boys with her show anymore

I don't think she "didn't know" about the cultural difference. On the contrary, I'd bet money she asked the "hook-up" question on purpose. She's notorious for making her guests uncomfortable and then making their discomfort the butt of her joke. In hindsight she's kind of a bully.
Having that man in a wig jump out to scare them on their last appearance is another example of Ellen being a bully. And that's not "cultural differences," that's just being mean.

No offense, but don't you think using the word "Lesbian" is a bit weird here? Why does being Lesbian has anything to do with any of this. How is she racist? All she did was asking if they ever hook up with their fan, which is a pretty normal conversation in the US. And she did stopped asking the question after she noticed their reaction. I can understand if people outside of the west find it rude/offensive because of culture differences.

Ellen had the tendency to make people uncomfortable, not just with BTS but she has done it with other celebrities as well. The only thing is the celebrities in The US are used to that behaviour from ellen. They even laugh sometimes, because they know the way she is, but is is totally different for BTS, because their culture is completely different. She should get more educated in other peoples cultures and realized that, she should be respectful to others. To me, she is a nasty person, thinking she can do or say anything she wants just because is her show and she is famous. I aplaude BTS for not wanting to go back to her show. It’s okay, they don’t need her to promote them on her show, they are Already Famous, and other people had them on there shows. BTS don’t need that garbage from her. They are to precious and valuable to be on her show anyways. Good for them!

first off i think we should all so maturity and treat each other like equals. Some of us are good at something while others are good at other things. BTS has made such a big break through for society. So much attention is now being given to the asian countries after their success and not to forget their success came from a lot of hard work. I may not be a fan of them but treating someone like this without sensitivity from their cultural background is just showing how uneducated one can be. I am someone from an asian country and things like dating and someone's sex life is not spoken as freely and casually as it is like in the european countries and US. I hope not just talk show hosts but people in general are sensitive to matters such as this and not offend other people
Best decision they made. Around that time I knew one of her producers and she was not happy working with Ellen. After she told me that I saw Ellen with completely different eyes.

Thank you for this. I understand people have different cultures. I had a roommate while in college from an Asain country. One of the first things I did in the privacy of our room. Was sat down with both roommates. The other one grew up inthe Phillipines but fully understood American culture. We explained that we are of different cultures and mindsets. We will probably say or do something that can hurt each h other cause our culture is different fromeach other. When that happens we would communicate and come to a common ground. Needless to say yes we had our moments but our room was extremely peaceful. Cause we talked and learned from each other. I wish to have seen this happen between BTS and Helen. But not all the timewil it happen

Jimmy fallon, james corden,jessi and the weekly idol hosts are THE BEST HOSTS EVER i love how they make their idols feel comfortable and respected and just do them. They make their idols feel at home and i just adore the hosts for it.
