This is the finale of Playing the Worst Tanks According to Tank Jesus where I took the ARL-44 to a battle rating it should never see in an attempt to take out Germany's most infamous Heavy Tank, the King Tiger.
Due to matchmaking issues, the RNG of opponents and just bad luck. This last episode seen me sink 5 months of my time and a good chunk of my life to finish.

I guess it may be a terrible tank in real life, but in war thunder, I absolutely love this thing. You can front plate pretty much anything, and most of the time, it’s a one shot. Love the vehicle overall, nice to see that you’re doing it!
Edit: now that you’ve made this video, everyone will know it’s weakness… yay…

ARL used to have a "double" armor (box sides) but it tricked GJ's physics and they removed it to a simple plating.
This tank used to eat HEAT and APHE from the sides (when it was introduced)
It also made it near immune to bombs of any size.
I played this tank so many times at 7.0 and so many people are scared to peek it
But now they know it has no armor they're gonna rekt me
A masterclass series would be really cool. I love your series content, so I'm down for whatever you throw out.
Controversial I'm sure, but I loved playing the ARL. I think when it's playing at its BR it can do really well. I found the gun to be quite easy to use, and I felt like I could pen almost anything
Not controversial at all, it IS a good tank (in game at least) ;)
On my France grind the ARL-44 I firstly thought it would be garbage, but it performed surprisingly well, very fun tank
And the Tigers II are the actually bad tanks now interesting

@@OddBawZ it was the worst combo for us. We werent on a call because his parents were sleeping, so our coordination was horrible. And we were playing against a pro ;)

i like to play the ARL-44 (ACL-1) because thats the 3.7 version and it has 125 mm of pen aswell as roughly 90mm of effective frontal armor, and the turret sides have 60 instead of 30. (edit: you can also angle somewhat because its 50mm on the side at 3.7 which isnt alot especially flat but, you can still angle)
ACL-1 is the true ARL-44 glad to see someone else realises it. I put bright, multicoloured decals on the UFP lmao, players shoot like flies to poop.
Now that is a hidden gem!
David Fletcher is such a great guy, I really want to go to the museum and have a chance to listen to him talking about tanks, his dedication is infectious.

I think the main reason people don't spam the King Tiger anymore is because it no longer works that well in the current meta. The biggest downside it has is the slow speed.
and repair costs. I mean the 10.5 cm Tiger costs 15.000 SL
Still much faster than tutels of US and Britain.
As a British main hearing you coping because of lack of aphe is such a normal thing for me

A little bit of history for those who, like me, almost had a heart attack by seeing Bawz stressing out playing this.
Fortunately this tank never fought. The project was conceived while France was occupied. The tank was to compete with the Tiger II, at least on paper. When the war ended, the project was already outdated by all its equivalents. Therefore, no further versions were designed. Instead, it was decided to build 50 models, in order to revive the French defence industry, which was then literally in ruins. To do this, it was decided to use only what could be produced and/or what was already available.
All this gives us an atypical mix, like Frankenstein. Design of a typical tank from the mid 40's, built using processes used for the assembly of tanks from the 30's.

I remember loving this tank when I played it. The gun slapped and the armor didnt cause too many problems for me. But that was back about 3 years ago XD

I personally found the ARL-44 to be an astonishing tank when you play it right. I played French tanks as soon as they left CBT and the first tank that felt like a real fighter was the ARL-44. I didn't really care much for the gameplay of 4.7-7.7 with the (what felt like) copy-paste AMX's. The 44 actually grinded me to the Super bias even with the other tanks researched
I would love a video from the cutting room floor from this episode. Hearing you lose your mind was incredibly entertaining
sadly enough i get upteired so often in my king tiger i wouldnt be surprised if your closest match to finding one wasnt 7.3 its like you can fight king tigers in up teirs yourself but cant get a downteir when in them

7:43 In my experience, many reasons:
1) The teams are usually garbage (and I'm not good enough to carry)
2) I don't like slow tanks
3) 97% of the time the battle is a full uptier where the armour doesn't really matter, so if I'm spawning a Tiger 2, it's going to be the Tiger 2 P because of the lower repair cost.
4) CAS (justified, but it's nice to not be a priority target)
5) I suck at dealing with tanks like IS-6 and IS-4M (skill issue)

The ARL-44 is one of my number 1 tanks of all time. thing is an absolute beauty and leathal as all hell.

I feel like Odd played in a way the ARL definitely shouldn't be played like. Sniping/ambushing and long range combats is the way to go but Odd went hunting for the king tiger. Btw, I've never had a single full up tier with the ARL.
While I agree that due to the turret armor it should be lowered to 5.0, it's nowhere near a bad tank if you play it as it was intended. Plus because gaijin hates France, the tank's partial autoloader isn't even modelled in game so its reload should be 5/6s instead of 10

Let's just appreciate that the arl 44 is commonly known in the french community as one of the best tank in this line up because of his shells/gun combo
The best way to play french is actually to follow as much as you Can the Map borders when not in a CQB situation (for example, the Reichstag in Berlin, when you Spawn from the river is one of the best locations to play french tanks .even more op when you get autoloaded french tanks it's a 10+ kill at least 75% of the time cuz allows you to full take advantage of your gun and balance the fact that you are not that much tanky by using surprise effect / lots of Hull down hiding spots. I would recommend playing with someone with the winter event ebr so he Can use his mobility/autoloaded Germany destroyer commonly known as his gun, to clear the way and start making as much kill as he Can earlygame so there will be more ennemies in their Spawn to be killed by the ARL. The arl Can also be towed by the ebr at some point so the arl gets in position faster or at least at the same time as the ebr)
But you should avoir putting yourself in a position where the ennemy line is in front of you due to the overall armor of french tanks (althought the last Leclerc got hell of a armor buff and thus you can do that with this tank while having the second best mbt reloading time/above than average mobility)
Seriously 150 games mate, avg 15 mins per game is more than 2000 hrs games play... i've done 8500 matches in 5 years and I'm addicted but amased with your dedication. Bawz is without doubt the goto guru amd master of war thunder pain and gain
One of the things i like to do in this game is play this kind of vehicles wich are known to be bad just as a challenge to see if i can get atleast an ace with them. So watching you suffer through this challenge was actually a lot of fun.
This thing was my main runner for grinding out mid tier france, I loved it.
Irl it was a heavy tank, but the SPG role it has in game reflects how you should play it.
flank or stay at range. your armor is better and your gun with very little drop can lol pen nearly everything you face. its honestly one of my faves in france's mid tier line up.
Edit: although the reload is painful. worst part about it, imo.

I like the German 6,7 lineup. A masterclass guide would be awesome.
I dislike it cuz it barely moves and it barely is capable of fighting but i only have the 6.3

1. Because that's the role it was meant to perform
2. Because it's an incredibly high-velocity (1000m/s at 5.3) 90mm naval cannon with a semi-auto loader that Gaijin hasn't modelled and a first-stage ammo rack right behind the gun.
3. Because they need to have the APHE be magnitudes superior to solid shot or the German, Soviet and US mains will have a meltdown.
@@ZETH_27 It's not a tank destroyer lol, unless "tank destroyer" means any vehicle intended to destroy tanks. Its play style is much more like a heavy tank.
@@Zorro9129 You can absolutely play it like a heavy tank, but the characteristics of it are much more suited to the role of a tank destroyer.
While IRL it may have been classed as a heavy tank, in-game it is more suitable as a tank destroyer hence why it has that designation in-game. A similar vehicle would be the Strv 75 which was a medium tank IRL, but is classed as a light-tank because of the roll it plays in-game.
Let's not forget that the ARL 44 wasn't even produced till well and truly after the war was resolved.

Even if everyone has no armor at 6.7, tiger ii armor is still bad, because a lot of tanks have heat fs and this make the tiger ii balanced even with a lot of armor compared to other tanks.

Nah, the ARL is a very good tank; you can see from his gameplay that his only issues are the BR (kinda ?), mainly his team and missed shots. Idk really why but he seems to be overeacting about it. Really, if you can, try it; great gun, mobility and armor (not the turret tho).
Great stuff Odd, really enjoyed this one. I loved that moment when the Pershing showed up on the desert map it was almost a "no factor" moment and it detonated...you didn't even have to aim for a sweet spot or anything. Yet the Tiger 2 has only a couple of sweet spots were you could even damage it. XD

ARL-44 ACL-1 is a chad now with the pen buff.
I know this video is a year old, but as as the tiger 2 is facing the enemy with 800 meter stick its op. As soon as someone gets on its flank, its a glass cannon. Just pop the back of the turret and its gone with the wind.
