Kidston’s videos are amazing…because the love he has for these cars really shines through. He also has been personally collecting the amazing cars that his father once owned. He’s a master story teller and engages people through these stories, even more than the cars. I enjoyed the video, but had to laugh when the narrator, towards the end, stated that he sold cars to such a “diverse” set of buyers - middle aged, to older, mostly white men (all rich) are hardly a diverse group (and I say that as a late middle aged - not rich - man). Love the cars and follow Kidston on his social media channels and RUclips - he’s great.
Glad to see more and more videos covering these classic cars. You won't see them on roads but at least you can get a bit of that experience from the film.
These old classic cars hold tremendous amount of sentimental value and a bit of history. raw analog authentic and memorable driving experience with little to no high tech or nanny features. of course to some they drive like every other old cars but better.if you want the driving cars of course you should buy the best modern cars full of technology and power. But if money is no object to you, by all means shed $150 million to experience a piece of automobile history.
Poor cars, destined to be inside "investment briefcase" in dark warehouse. Few cars might see sunlight when new owner has to transport them to new home, on a trailer.
That's a great business being a Go To guy in buying & selling cars. Since it's full of mega rich people who can't be "bothered" by the intricacies of the sale. A great Opportunity, a great job, rubbing elbows with extremely rich people & best of all getting the chance to drive some of there exquisite motor vehicles! Good on you!
It’s sad that most of these classic cars end up in “investment” collections never to be really be driven. Their souls can’t shine if they aren’t on the roads. I do love what Kidston does with his videos creating a sense of character and emotion showcasing their true identity to hopefully touch on the souls of true car enthusiasts that will someday drive them rather than simply display them like a painting on a wall.
that's life, Gold, Diamonds, Paintings all get lock away, It's rare to see a genuine painting now days, there all copies, due to insurence and protesters vitalization.
what a load of marketing nonsense. until the late 1970s old racing cars were just second hand cars and they were bought by enthusiasts for resonable money and rightly so including all the Ferrari ex racing cars. Looking at cars as investments in recent years has just made them throw away toys for the rich, and put them out of the reach of many genuine enthusiasts.
Most people who drove a Duesenberg or an A Model Ford are long gone. But the cars still remain collectable. I predict that once EV's become the common car the old ICE vehicles will be worth even more!
@stephenvelden295 Agreed lots of these fears are stupid and unfounded. I know now countless channles with a gen m and z who collect cars from way before them. One is a teen on Texas who loves his chrysler 1947 new yorker.
250 GTO still considered the greatest sports car extant. They claim it's a driver too but no power steering (is it worse to drive than a Daytona?) and must take 20 minutes to throw a shift w/o damaging the tranny.
I have been to several Beauty Concours in USA and Europe since 1995, despite beeing accessible to everibody to look at, it's a business boosted to sell you a crap Mercedes A class let you thinking you become a little part of automotive history. On bigger money scale, is a tax avoid investment like "Artpiece".
All of that is bull. These cars will still be around, and guess what left wingers own classic cars as well. These aren't going anywhere, especially Ford model T and A. Millienals are starting to collect antique and classic cars as well it is just affordableity. I can name you quite a few of us progressive youngsters who collect these.
@@redemptionjack4657 That's all fine and dandy. However, there are many, many leftwing idiots that'll never be able to afford anything nice and expensive and believe me, they're ressentfull against people who can. Ressentfull enough to scratch or burn cars from those who can.
I think investors practically ruin everything, i have a cheap classic and drive the nuts of it, but a bigger waste of money is having a car you dont drive thats what its for
Thanks for the comment. I've researched it without any Pinot, and you are indeed right. The SL was an M198 straight-six, while the SLR was a M196S straight-eight.
Kidston's remark that no prospective buyer asks how the car drives says it all... Most of these buyers are no petrolheads. They invest. I personally world prefer them to buy paintings, so car and motorbike prices can return down to earth. Because I am a petrolhead and these investors kill the market for the enthusiasts.
Totally agree! Classic cars (youngtimers included), although being an art pieces sometimes and often a result of great designer’s work and innovative thinking, still and most of all are symbols of liberation, of mobility, of sporting ambitions, glory, suffering and cause of death for so many great passionate pilots. Exactly because of the above they belong to the roads, streets, race tracks so they can shine, impress, entertain those who can appreciate them for what they are made to do - deliver joy of driving! Having a collection open to public os great, racing GTO in historic racing is wonderful, but I wish some of these super rich came up with “Free Ride Day” kind of idea. There are so many old and young petrolheads who’d die to have even one mile driven in one of these machines and get inspired to create something great. Also Enzo will be much happier up there knowing his cars are getting revved up and raced instead of collecting expensive dust in some multi billion mansion’s garage 😉
Are you referring to Ion Tiriac? He's made Forbes' list of the weathiest Romanians for years, so he was more likely looking to add to his collection: www.tiriaccollection.ro/en/history
What do I think? Monkey see monkey do, that's what I think! There are other "cheaper" cars that cost less and can provide same if not better experience, but you gotta have the one that Fangio drove...

I wonder if these cars will hold its value after the generation that grew up seeing them as kids dies.
