How can this man say things like its a "straight line car" and "people don't think of this as a backroad car" ummm dude, its a GTR, the damn thing is made to destroy super/hyper cars on a track.... lol its absolutely a backroad car and one of the best at that.
I really love the GT-R but the Maintaince on these is way to expensive. The Gearboxes do fail after like 30 000 miles and a geaborx does cost like 25k.. thats just stupid imo
Not a fan of the GTR, but I’m happy to see a video from you! Your commentary while driving is very interesting and it describes what’s going on very well!
The R35 is amazing, don't get me wrong, but I can see why many people say it's "too digital" and that it feels like a video game. The fact that it's so good at finding grip does sap some of the personality. I hope Nissan comes out with a successor, though. If they're smart in how they implement tech to improve the driving experience while still making it engaging and giving it some personality (and keep it in a reasonable price range, of course), I think it could end up a lot like how many people wish the new NSX had ended up...and if they make it mid-engined, it could make a cool AWD alternative to the C8...
I remember when the R35 GTR first came out it was the “video game car”. 5 years ago, when I bought my 2015 GTR, the driving experience felt as artificial as the 991.1 GT3/Turbo or the MP4-12C. Today, the GTR feels quite analog compared to the newest P-Cars, McLarens, Ferraris, and BMW M-cars especially. I guess “good” driver feel is subjective and some may prefer the disengaged driving experience. Weird place we find ourselves in the car world today.
Sure, compared to my 370Z, it's "too digital". But it has plenty personality and so much fun to drive. Owned one since 2017 and am likely to keep it forever. It's just too much fun.
I have a 15 FBO also. It's definitely not too digital. It's effective in many scenarios . I've had a E92 M3, 650 Dinan and drove a P-car 5 times before my GTR. Getting the power to the ground, while being balanced is the mark of a great design. A car designed from the ground up to be a road car and "track" car is hard to do; P-cars are great and I may add one to my collection, but to me they are Iconic machines and the GTR is Legendary. To get numbers Nissan could easily produce a limited batch of ~100 GTRs with some of the mods / gutted and have a 1000 HP reliable car to boast about. I think the poor balance of other cars' design has drivers expecting over and /or under steer to fight as a norm makes them feel uneasy.
Yes I own one for about 4 years and it’s like a simulator if that explains it. The car has saved me a ton of time taking corners too fast for average cars. I could care less about rain or the elements in this car.
Great video, randomly stumbled across it doing a quick random search and the car itself is great, amazing footage and commentary but when I saw the boston skyline I was sold. Hope to see this car around on the streets some time
FALSE: “GT-Rs are big, heavy, *straight line*, silly cars...” C’mon, they are by no means just “straight-line” cars. Not in the slightest. In short, the Nurburgring records speak for themselves. Nonetheless, I’m presuming you just misspoke. Aside from that, great video! Cheers
It takes a lot of technology to get a 3,900lbs car to boogie in a corner. It can certainly do it, but weight is not invisible, so for that I've gotta stick by the statement. I see a lot more Drag GTRs than road course cars. Not up on my 'Ring times as of late but iirc lighter cars like the GT3, and C7 Z06 were faster. Happy to listen if you've got some track cars to showcase though. I do like the platform.
Tedward, (respectfully) I think you’re splitting hairs with official Nurburgring times: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nürburgring_Nordschleife_lap_times. The GT3 was 3 seconds faster than the GTR nismo, the C7 Z06 was 5-6 seconds slower than the GTR nismo. In this video you drive a GTR (it is not a Nismo-I get it, the nismo model certainly has suspension tweaks, a little more power than a premium, black, or track edition, etc) but that FBO you drove in the video has significantly more power than the Nismo that made the record on the ‘ring in the link I provided. I might debate that an FBO could hold its own against that nismo time lol, but who knows. Aside from all of that: If you’re going compare, essentially, the top C7 model or the top 911 model in your reply, the equivalent R35 model completely compares around that track. That being said, perhaps R35 you drove in this vid would hold its ground as well. 🤷🏼♂️
I remember that nismo time not being legit. The car was tuned and altered to hit 7:08. www.carthrottle.com/post/bad-news-the-gt-r-nismos-astonishing-nurburgring-time-was-a-massive-lie/
Tedward yes, it is a debated topic that these Nurburgring track runs by manufacturers are not scrutinized by any third party, and I see with your link Nissan took further advantage on that run and were able to shave off a few more seconds. It’d be great to see the true OEM outcome, as it would with other production vehicles timed on that track. Be that as it may, I’ll reiterate: suggesting the GTR is only a “straight-line” car is totally inaccurate. It is nonetheless, silly-fast around any track (and still is all these years later, moreover) compared with myriad super cars. Yes, it’s very popular on the drag strip, because of brute, AWD quarter mile capability. But, it is simply not a one-dimensional “straight-line” car, as you suggested in the video. A charger or a hellcat would fall under that category, among others.
After driving built Camaros, GT500's and a Viper. The GT-R feels like it's a cheat code to me. You absolutely cannot drive other cars like this with such ease of mind. 😅
Lol you start the video by saying the gtr is just a straight line car. I’m sure owner was laughing his ass off inside. The car was designed to be a road course champion. It just happens to do phenomenally in straight line too.
It’s because this RUclipsr doesn’t know a thing about GTR while he puts out a video trying to portray to people he knows a lot about them. He’s a poser
Not true. I have a 900 bhp gtr and it breaks loose like a freakin Mustang, literally. Getting it tuned to moderate the power, but the perception that there's no issues and it "figures it out" isn't always the case.
My premium paddle shifters move with the steering wheel and I absolutely hate it. Does anyone know of any other options to make them like this in the video.
I cut this out of the intro BUT...the day before I filmed this, I was a groomsman in my friend's wedding. I had a couple drinks but honestly I had been awake waaaaay too long. I felt like garbage during this shoot haha. When I stopped drinking 100% it was to see what would happen. Would I feel healthier? Happier? Short answer is yes. Alcohol isn't really part of my life anymore simply because it slows me down and doesn't add much value. That being said, on special occasions it is nice to enjoy it socially.

Was thinking the exact. Same thing 😂😂
He trippin
Does the GT-R still hold the position of "Dream Car" in the community?
My Dream Car.. 😭
I just don't get the gtr. V8 rwd cars are more my style.

@@gepixelt7712 That's complete rubbish. The gearboxes are extremely solid.
Gazman pls look into used GT-Rs and you'll see that many of them got the second or third gearbox.

Not gonna lie, this made me look at R35 GTR’s on Autotrader after watching.
GTRs are one of my favorite cars of all time-I am biased though haha
Such a great car, loved seeing it in person before moving south.

No one can say that anymore cuz all muscles cars follow the same pah now.

GTRs are legendary IMO
