@@sl4983 they do but it's in the middle of nowhere so it's not really the best scenario and they have 30 -40 mph sustained winds with 60mph wind gusts additional resources have arrived since yesterday but the fire is jumping roads and minutes away form Canadian tx where all access is cut off

Doesn't matter what caused it, wildfires become dangerous when conditions allow them to grow out of control very fast (wind, dry conditions, amount of underbrush)

Not sure yet...it may depend on how you measure. These fires are certainly sweeping across WAY more land, but the region is VERY sparsely populated and lightly forested. The fires will mostly blow through and not linger.
It may not disrupt as many lives or have as high an economic impact. The Bastrop fires burned >1600 homes and killed two firefighters and six civilians. This one's still far from over, though.

Can you imagine what this was like before their were many people on the plains? In the grand scheme of things, its actually a good thing to have these fires. With wind high and humidity in the 20's and lower, its bound to happen. It just takes a little spark.

High winds always increase fire risk. It's not just from the blowing on the fire, but the increased static electricity as the air "rubs" (like the classic balloon-trick) against the earth and structures. This is what happened on Lahaina too.
