It's amazing to see many professionals with so many different embouchure, playing zones, and the way of holding their instrument
Outstanding to hear. I'm an Army veteran who laid down my trumpet 50 years ago. Cpt "No lip any more" Lowe.
Pick it back up. that’s quite a time to not play for but I reckon it would come back rather quickly to you. I play the trumpet as well as the organ
Play Taps at military funerals! Bugles Across America. I'm 76 and play in a key that I can handle.
Thanks for this excellent demonstration the standard of playing that an aspiring professional trumpeter should know will be required of them.
Superb playing by all, but I’ve got to admit the Persichetti floored me - my chops were burning just listening - it’s quite a long excerpt!
Staff Sgt. Hoffer is a true military band pro! Did you know her father is Sgt. Maj. (Ret.) Gil Hoffer of The Army Band, Pershing’s Own?
Beautiful sounds ! Thank you to all for this nice performance .. love it
Wunderschön dieses Trompeten Performance, danke allen für die schöne Musik
What wonderful trumpetists! Gorgeous tone, all of you!
Good advices for the musicians. Thanks for your help.
Listening all these tunes very moving!!
Sounded great, Nick!!!
Lo difícil lo hacen parecer Fácil una muestra Magnífica.!!!!
Fantastic playing!!! I’m glad that I’m not the only one who plays most of their excerpts on C trumpet haha
My buddy Mike Gillespie! Excellent work everyone
Excellent 🙏🏼
Marvelous. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you so much 🤗
Thank you so very much for your service
Thank you for your support!
Nailing it on the C trumpet.
Great!
Very good
너무 좋은 자료 입니다^^
This is really well done and presents excellent models of what a fine audition should be. I think that on the Outdoor Overture, fingering the concert E-flats 2-3 on the C trumpet would have a slightly better effect. They are not noticeably flat, but the timbre is a bit different to my ears. It is well played, however. The part I always had the most concern about was the soft, sustained low B-flat at the end.
Congratulations to all on your very high-quality video!
Lovely video
Fantastic
Thanks!
Bravo
Mike Gillespie!!!! My dude! Congrats on playing with the Army
Thanks bro! we are playing in TX coming up…maybe near you?
Damn these guys are so good.
Amazing job! I am curious if they are reading in Key of C or transposing from Bb...most of the clips they are playing on C Trumpets, but the music is written in Bb?
I’m guessing a bit of both. I’m pretty sure the Copland is B flat in the score. The John Williams is definitely in C.
Most are written Bb but played on a C trumpet. They are transposing on the fly or have music charted in C in front of them.. I never did get the hang of transposing on the fly when playing on a C....
It's a mix of both. You basically play a C trumpet in professional band/orchestra/opera work as your "main horn". So when parts are in A, Bb, D, F you're just transposing. And yeah, you do it on the fly. Sometimes you use other horns (Bb trumpet, D trumpet, Eb trumpet, Piccolo Trumpet, Bb cornet) but 95% or more of what I play is on a C trumpet. I almost exclusively play with a 4-valve c trumpet so that I can easily play stuff like Carmen without switching horns.
@@Brian-ey4xt I’ve actually played on the b flat in orchestras. Rodeo and Rhapsody in Blue come to mind. Never played on a C in a concert band.
@@Brian-ey4xt I guess it depends on the ensemble. I have a friend who just retired from USAF where he was a full time musician. Every photo I saw of him he was holding a Bb. Other friends who are commercial/studio musicians like Wayne Bergeron play Bb pretty much exclusively. I'm just a hobbyist, but I only use my C trumpet for church gigs. Otherwise Concert Band, Big Band, etc the parts are in Bb.
Cool
If my band director requested these, I'd be one lung short 💃
Very curious to why on summon the heroes the sheet music does not match what he is playing
I may be wrong, but the sheet music for summon the heroes says b flat trumpet, but I’m pretty sure that’s a C trumpet? The long note on the second page is a G and it open valve for a B flat trumpet but he is holding the 1st valve down which would be an F for a B flat. Also the bell looks long like a C trumpet. Maybe wrong? I’m just a 4 year HS marching band geek lol and that was 26 years ago.
I have heard summon the heros before and I have been playing for only a year and I can do it ok
You must do bassoon next you professional soldiers of our exquisite nation.
I would love if you did this for trombone!! Stuff like la Gaza ladra, Valkyrie, tuba Mirum, maybe even the David?
It is in the works!!!
Why are they all piston trumpets in C?
Why was "Summon The Heroes" written in Bb, but played on a C trumpet? Not a problem, sounded fantastic, just curious.
That's the way that most of these excerpts appeared. What's interesting to me is that the solo on the recording is recorded on a C trumpet but at the written pitch in the video but for C trumpet, so it's in the key of concert G instead of F. I've always wondered why the military bands request it auditioned in the key of F.
@Chipmonkey 72 Hey there! Staff Sgt. Jeff Lewandowski finds it easier to play on C trumpet, and he prefers the quality of sound that the C trumpet provides for that specific excerpt.
Something tells me that the Hindemith March isn’t Mvt. 4
Please do Trombone/Bass Trb excerpts
We are working on it!
@@ArmyFieldBand Thanks for the response! I’ll watch out for them.
why do they all use C trumpets even though the score writes for Bb trumpet
Our trumpet players are using both Bb and C trumpets in this video. C trumpet has a slightly different sound, and depending on the excerpt, the notes and fingerings play easier on this horn.
Why C Trumpets?
Anyone else notice that the notes don't match the score? That means that this is even more impressive because they're transposing while playing these.
Good eye! They are reading Bb trumpet parts but transposing them for C trumpet.
Great musicians, but I don’t recall a band ever being requested to play those selections.
Wonderful playing. But why not show us the TRUMPET music since it is the trumpet being featured?
Those are the trumpet parts.
@@SamCayhallGotGassed Given the fingerings, that is not their music - i.e. not the notes they are fingering, unless they are being forces to play while transposing.
@@billfarnham1592 they are playing C trumpets, as many classical players do. The parts on screen are for Bb trumpet. Thus, different fingerings.
@@SamCayhallGotGassed So I wonder why they didn't show music in the key the instrument was playing. Didn't affect the sound. But it's distracting.
@@billfarnham1592 If a trumpet player is playing their C trumpet, but reading a B-flat part (which is what they are doing), that's what it looks like.
Trumpets? I think I've heard of them. But really,, shouldn't we be focusing on euphoniums, everyone's favorite instrument.
Euphonium excerpts coming soon to the channel!
Bands play on Bb trumpets
Orchestras play on C trumpets
What are these nodoubt trumpeters trying to say?
A lot of bands play on C trumpets nowadays. Many college wind ensembles, the Dallas Winds, the Marine Band, Army Band, etc. The piece effects the choice of trumpet, but the C has become pretty standard in the professional world from what I’ve seen and heard.
@John Trimmel Hey there! They're actually playing C trumpets! They are reading Bb trumpet parts but transposing them for C trumpet.
Is there a good reason why all the trumpet players playing these excerpt on C Trumpet ? And please don't tell because it fashionable. And even you play a modern Bach or Yamaha C trumpet that has better intonation then the one that made 20 years ages. C Trumpet intonation still dog shit.
