Ben Woodruff is AWESOME! I love watching his channel. I watch every video and I don’t even do falconry. I love birds of prey and I learned a lot about birds of prey on Bens channel that isn’t about falconry. Just the birds themselves. He is extremely knowledgeable about birds of prey. Yeah what happened to Ben sounded extremely scary. I’m very glad he has recovered so well.
Thanks for your kind words Dave. Hooding has been a godsend for keeping her calm through manning by helping control stress level exposure. Gives us both a positive experience and start to our relationship. Look forward to you seeing her go!
Deffo agree about practical experience, I didn't buy a book or watch a youtube video until I had a good few months volunteering at a centre. Took me forever to learn the knot, but I refused to do anything until I had it, now I can do it in the dark with my eyes closed 😂 My advice to people is just get out there and get your hands dirty before you even think about getting a bird. I was hoping I'd be able to make it to the gathering but life is making it difficult, fingers crossed it's a success so I can make it next year
Some Centers will not let volunteers handle raptors , only clean cages and prepare food for staff to use later . Those are valuable skills , but not enough .
@@falconry.davesharpenatureboy Some places value their volunteers and invest in training them to advance in their skills . Not worth teaching is a bad look .
Think you’ve read that a bit wrong . You can’t just let someone turn up as a volunteer and let him handle birds as the birds will suffer massively . With experince , that theyve been given as a volunteer then yes . All but one if our staff were volunteers with us once . They got to handle birds as they progressed , if they dont reach a minimal Standard they dont handle the birds ,. Turning up and expecting to take selfies holding a bird doesn’t cut it . You need to show willing and some aptitude .
Yes and stay tuned ! I’ll pop some Clips out once underway and try and get out a full length film right up to entering ; if Murphy and his law keep out of it
@@falconry.davesharpenatureboy the falconers community need the full length film, there’s not really much on RUclips. Derry argues short film on sparrowhawks is top class, if you haven’t seen it, it’s well worth a watch. Also any idea why my sparrowhawk isn’t keen on magpies, she’s had 2 easy ferrel pigeons out of barns so far. I showed her a magpie today and no interest. I’m thinking maybe reduce the weight a little? I gave her a live one on the creance a few days ago and it took me to grab the magpie by the head before she grabbed it.
Hi Dave got a question my Harris is absolutely manned but I keep second guessing coz she’s making a noise sort of like a tweet kind of noise just when say I say Goodmorning to her or something like that I just want to make. Sure that it’s a noise I should be worried about or a bad habit. ?
Donation made ,I hope he gets what he needs .
Nice watching.

@shereesmazik5030 absolutely and with good reason I’m afraid , it takes skill and time to handle them properly without supervision
