Very intriguing. I miss the good old days at Hamburg when TWA (727s) and Pan Am (727s & 737s) were daily guests.

Amazing, I know this Airport since 1977...in summer 77 I took my very first flight...alone. I was 15 years old and going to Stockholm! Not a direct flight...we had a stop in Hamburg...

D-ABYB, a B-747 100, sister ship of the one showed here at 1:53 (D-ABYA), crashed on 11-20-74 shortly after takeoff in Nairobi Int'l Airport as Lufthansa Flight 540.

D-ABYA was sold to Braniff in late 1978 , and flew for a few others until being retired from Tower Air (N-603FF), scrapped at JFK in 2001

Back then, they handled the traffic with only 2 runways - 1983 came the third and 2012 the fourth...

still good times, We new where the enemy was(for us in the East, for them we in the West) not like today where a enemy lives next door. Smoking in every way, colorful planes and no plasic airbus.

I guess Lufthansa has been loyal to Boeing for a long time and I hope it will continue to be.

Isn't it weird that Germany's largest city is Berlin and second largest is Hamburg but Germany's largest airport is in 5th largest city of the country?

I thought so too until i looked at a map then it all makes perfect sense. Do a google map and you will see why Frankfurt is so busy. Busy for trains too.

Most of Lufthansa’s customers connect through Frankfurt. My aunt owns a travel agency and a lot of her bookings from to Toronto to Africa or the Middle East is with Lufthansa or KLM. Usually KLM through Amsterdam because they have better fares.
