I admire greatly Le Bon. He has been a class act through out his career. I think its OK to see this video even when he failed to hit the high notes. That shows you how good he was at the peak of his career. All the great ones have gone through the same thing. Just listen to Robert Plant these days.

I liked the imperfections and at least Simon sang live and did not use playback or any backing tracks that a lot of singers uses today. His vocal range was not the best during this performance, but in the later years he sounds great again.
It's so tempting for me to focus on what's not as I expect to hear. But if I step back ... and remember that this is life, music, existence, love, joy and peace ... I still hear the song, because it's part of my soul ... and I can fill in for Simon! As he once was quoted in the Seven & The Ragged Tiger Songbook "Jesus I love this song!"
I feel for Simon *tears*. Such an entertainer and a singer. This must have been a difficult time for Duran Duran.... I can hear his longing for the Taylors. Not surprisingly, the reunion happened right after. I wish them luck.
I'd never seen this before and while it's unusual for Simon to fail hitting the high notes, I agree with the person below who said that he handled it professionally - who cares if it's not perfect, accidents can happen. He also seemed be slurring the words somewhat at the beginning - he was probably just having an overall off night, c'est la vie ;)
I've seen Duran Duran twice in later years and they are a tight group of musicians. They extremely underrated! Simon sounded better than he did in the 80s. It seems here that he lost his voice a few times in this video, but this happens to the best of the best. He is sexy as hell and has a sexy as hell voice. Love them!

It's just a given, when someone has a long career as a singer, you're going to be able to find a few performances over the years with vocal fails, cracks, bad nights, etc. Has happened to EVERYONE. You can even find clips of Pavarotti voice cracks.

it's really amazing how he missed it, i think he had a bad day. Remember that he also used to sing on routine, and then it has to be end up in a miscounting in voice and breath. The moment he failed he was gasping for air. With this song, you must stay sharp and controll. Ive seen them live over a dozen times throughout the years in New York. They never sang that song live...its a great song but thats gotta be a tough one to sing live. I miss John's bassline in this song.

This was back in 2000, what the hell did Simon do to get his vocals back on track, 15-16 years later?? Usually a vocalist's pipes decline with time. But he's able to hit the high notes live, and it's obviously they are not using backing vocal tracks on the live shows.
It's a shame that this is the clip that is out there of this. They rarely perform this and Wes was the one who got them to do it. there WERE good performances of this song on that tour. I would like to see more clips of this song from other shows.

You all who said it was bad...maybe it was, but you have to know that Simon probably had simply bad day...i heard many performances with just excelent voice interpretation, so for all of you who do not know how good singer he is, i am really sorry...go to some concerts and you will see the real band...do not forget that boys are on the stage for 30 years - still with the performance (in most of cases) like it was yesterday...

How many concerts had he sang live up to this one. He is singing live and he sounds like he is losing his voice. It looks like it took him by surprise when he didnt hit that note. I bet he was having a sore throat. Needed to rest that voice for a short time. Still amazing try and got to give him credit for going on with the show. Shows a true professional.
He sang fine. Couldn't hit the highs because he either had a cold or sang multiple nights in row. It happens. Check out the other clips. He sings good on the others.
Eh he messed up, but years later he's still famous and touring and kicking and I'm not, so more power to him for singing live, then anyhow. Someday I'll get to a Duran Duran concert. Someday.

Was this during a period when Simon was fighting a cold? His voice is killer before and after this performance. He's still tops vocally in 2023!
