I contacted Rlaarlo to request they design and build a mount for 40 series motors. They are very reasonable with their prices and this would be ideal. All they have to do is make the outer leg taller by 1.5 mm and slightly beefier and open up the holes in the slider plate to accommodate larger screws used in bigger motors. My attempt worked to modify the current adj mount but it was not engineered for the additional weight and torque.
As always, great job. It’s crazy how well that Hobao mount fits. I wouldn’t be surprised if Rlaarlo followed suit with something similar after seeing this. Still waiting to see how you’ll cram that XLX2 under the lid, it’s going to be a challenge! Thanks again for sharing your progress!
Hello friend! I was able to modify a Rlaarlo adjustable motor Mount and it appears to work well. All I had to do is carefully open up the screw holes in the sliding motor plate and shim the mount. It feels sturdy and the Rlaarlo mount is approx. $20. Yes, a Scorched parts Roto-mount would be the best and most secure mount except for the price which most guys can’t afford for that part.
Dude,,, Crazy setup!! 👊 I'm not into the speed run thing but I like watching them!! It's Way overkill but that's what's its all about 😆👍!! I like the Rlaarlo and its Porche design so this should make an interesting Speed RUN. You got a Sub. Stay Safe and Speed run IT from Colorado!!!
I don't see why guys are trying to stuff such large motors in these things, I'm running a 3665 and it's got more torque than I'd ever want with just the medium spur thats included and a 37t pinion , already tapping 100mph easily on 3s, only gets to about 100F. So going to 4s and the small spur, it'll be 130 I bet no problem. Running these low kV big motors you need such big batteries that don't fit without work on plastic chassis cars, can't speak for the carbon chassis but space is not plentiful on these cars. These are great candidates for high kv 3650 or 52 motors too. I tried a 9000kv on 2s and was hitting 80mph already. Can't imagine what an 11000kv would do!
@@romper4444 agreed. This was just for fun but not necessary. Now with that said vwturbowolf has a setup like I have shown here and is running in the 170s
Good vid...subscribed. For larger vehicles, like my Limitless, 40mm cans area great...but, for a 1/10, honestly, I'm sticking with 36mm. But, I do plan to go (slightly) longer, and so Mod1 (thanks to your earlier video)...but, I'll be using Rlaarlo's aluminum adjustable motor mount (once I order it this weekend...which means i should receive it in about 2-3 months...lol). Speaking of Mod1, curious if you've determined what the largest Mod1 spur/pinion combo will fit? 🤙🏼
@@riskaddictionrcwith the pre-installed mount, yes...but, with the optional adjustable mounts, not limited as much. You can't go with a larger diameter motor, but you can definitely go longer, and you can definitely install much larger pinion gears.
You pick the motor kv based on the cell count you want to run. The cell counts recommend by TP Power is usually spot on for what you want in a speed run application.
Hey buddy! If you have time to answer, do you think the TP 3640 SCM 2 pole motor work in a Rlaarlo speed run car or will it wreck havoc on my Mamba 8s ESC? I’ve never owned a 2 pole high performance motor but thought it might fit with the Rlaarlo adjustable motor mount? Thanks!
I hate to bother you again but I know you understand this better than me! I want to try a the Habao mount and not sure which do buy as they have 2. One is for 50mm cans and one is for 57mm cans. I plan to use the TP 4040 SVM motor. I don’t know which mounts works best for the 4040 side motor? Can you help?
It won't go as fast as the 1/7 scale cars due to aero drag. I wish they made something like a 1/10 200mm wide car that is stretched and also uses 1/8 scale tires/wheels. That would be a world record car
@@Liberty.Francis I think the 1/6 idea is a mistake and expressed my thoughts to Rlaarlo. The majority of their audience may be grown up kids versus people who are genuinely serious about performance. I remember when the second 1/10 scale car was unveiled lot of people on RUclips were vocal about expecting a bigger car and they may have taken those comments the wrong way? I hope they change their mind as I won’t be buying a 1/6 scale car. Take care!
Hello friend! I bought the PPS Habao mount to affix my TP4040 and the mount arrived today. When I lined it up on the chassis, it seems the predrilled holes Rlaarlo placed for the battery tray are very close to the PPS to chassis hole just under where the motor will go. It seems the carbon fiber will be weakened to have two holes almost touching? How did you get around that problem and still have support for the bigger motors? I appreciate your guidance! Thanks, Greg
Correct I had to make some new holes. I sold the car about 6 months ago so I don't remember all the details. I took some tracing paper and traced the bottom. Then you can see where the holes will need to be. I also used some automotive feeler gauge and used them as a shim to raise the mount so it's perfectly centered on the shaft.
@@Liberty.Francis what concerns me is the holes I need to make are super close to where holes made by Rlaarlo for the battery tray. I will figure something out! I like a challenge. I might fill the holes with epoxy and redrill it then. Thanks for responding and I hope you keep making great RC videos!
Hello! Can you tell me where I purchase shims to go under the AK-917 motor Mount? I have a TP4040 motor that I’m trying to secure and need to raise a millimeter. Do I need to raise the differential and rest of the back of the car? Thanks for paving the way, sir.
Can I ask if you have a part number for that motor mount? I'm looking at one on sagas website and it looks the same but not sure. There's a couple of different ones and don't wanna order the wrong one. Thank you id appreciate it.
Rlaarlo STOLE MY MONEY and refuses to answer emails. When I asked for a refund they closed my account! whit all the respect but you don't need that set up on that car for 140mph it's to much you going to run true a lot issues over power and to heavy plus no room for the system good luck

I ended up going with a 3670 2200kv mmx8s.
I used the power Hobby mod1 35T as a spur it has 2 grub screws and fit perfectly
Sounds good, that should be a solid setup

Awesome, thank you for the help. Been struggling with motor mounts👍🏻
Glad it was helpful.
I need to post an update on this one. It's almost ready to run now
@Liberty.Francis looking forward to seeing the finished product. I've ordered the mount, my only concern is its for 50mm motors
Just what i was looking for, thanks mate! Subbed 😀

New sub! Great video can’t wait to see it running. That dude is going to be hard to handle!
Agreed, 1/10 is hard as it is.
Just gotta accelerate gently🤞
KaniZrc has a 2 xlx2 motor setup on the rlaarlo, gonna be hard to beat
The only one I had seen of his was copper head 1/10 dual ESCs? Maybe he has a second build I have not seen?

The Hobao mounts are very weak floppy metal.
I'd recommend an aftermarket one. Island hobby nut has several in stock.
Also saga custom RC might be able to answer your question. I am not sure as I never had those parts... I had PPS and scorched uk mounts

It's the stock Hobao mount for the vte2 which sucks. It's too flexible. I'd recommend getting scorched for the vte2

It is complete overkill. I will say that extra weight is a good thing in these little cars. Helps keep them on the ground ;)
Good luck fitting the body.
Certainly will be a challenge
That set up should be in a real speed car
I have the same setup in my hobao vte2. This is actually part of that dual motor build for that car.
WHY? It is already too fast for it's own good.
Rlaarlo hosted a speed competition. This setup is the same used in the winning car that hit 181 mph
