Love the honesty in the video. Definitely rare to see a pro open up like this but its really nice to hear that we're all going through the same thing whether we're pros or not. I found that when I had a bad game or two I would try to step away from hockey as much as possible for a few days (outside of practices). Its so easy to get caught up and spiral thinking about it and forget that theres a world and a life outside of hockey. Come back refreshed a few days later and ready to enjoy hockey again.
Kas, unreal Episode... I appreciate your truthful speaking. Whether you're a pro, or in business, the same thoughts apply. I appreciate your honesty, and your sharing your current situation. Stay focused on your dream and keep grinding.
a big thing in net which i see commonly swept under the rug is building confidence vs building an ego, ive havent played with many teams throughout my goaltending career but ive came across some goaltenders which have this idea that they HAVE to be better than other goalies, its a good mindset till it isn't, especially its often influenced by these parents thinking they are the best thing since sliced bread. A big problem with having an ego in net, is that it strains you from growing skill-wise, though you might get better through experience, as you usually do, it disables the ability to grow through hardwork as your drive to be better depends mainly on everyone elses word, and when you don't receive the words you want, it changes from wanting to be better than everyone, to thinking your worse than everybody.........as a goalie you have to realize when you are on that ice, it is only you that can make decisions, if you let the people who arent on that ice with you in the moment, change your game because they so, because you want that sense of gratification from those people, you might look better to them, but if you aren't playing the way you need to be playing on that ice, then you a playing wrong. Developing a confidence, is that you/yourself is comfortable, and you are knowledgable on how you play both your weaknesses and strengths right, and in a given situation you allow yourself to do what you think is the right move. Only people you should be truly listening to is people that have played goalie, and understand the true technicalites of a position ie a goalie coach.
Ships don't sink because of the water around them; ships sink because of the water that gets in them. Don't let what's happening around you get inside you and weigh you down.
You're in control of your mind and what gets in it. Stay on the course, control what you can control, and good things will happen. ;)
THIS 💯
Great episode and nicely spoken! A tip from my side during tough times: After a game lost it's good to think about the mistakes you made and what to improve. But remember to talk to your friends/loved ones who saw you make all those other saves. No negative thought can beat their opinion💪🏻 Keep it up!
Keep fighting and keep crushing. You’ve got this my man 💪🏼
Frustrating situation for sure, Kas. I'm rooting for you but I kinda understand the coaching staff wanting to keep riding that hot guy, he's playing really well right now. Eventually he's gonna have an off night and then it's your turn to shine!
This Vid couldn’t be more on point.. Mind reader for sure! I get hit up to play constantly (shortage of goalies in my area) My issue is keeping that positive mental outlook & having the you can only control YOU.. Can’t imagine how tough it must be to be a Pro.. Let alone me living the Men’s League life!
I'm an amateur goalkeeper, of course the level of difference is huge, but still it's also a game. On October 13, we played with the league leader, the score was 1-11, 76 shots were thrown at my goal!!! It seems that the score is big and it should be very sad, BUT it's okay, I just sat down, reviewed all the shots on my goal and got high from those moments that I worked out perfectly. There were enough saves, there were even dead pucks that I deflected, and thus just enjoyed my movements, saves, and so on. And you can work on mistakes on the ice and in your head. The main thing is to see the positive in everything. Kaz, everything will come, you're right, you're just doing everything further, as before, only better and better every day. I believe in you!!!
I am SO beat up today from playing a double (back to back) last night! Two L’s & keep replaying all my errors. Both sub games, but I wanted to help the teams out as best I could… UGH The struggle is SO real! Gotta Stay Positive
Quite possibly the best advice you could have given. The mental side of the game is probably harder than the physical side. Doing the movements is easy, but getting out of your own head is hard.
Thanks for another great and personal video. Well I can really understand that the moment when you're on the bench and the team starts getting those "lucky bounces", it is tough. So now when your wife is going back home for 2 weeks and your mother comes to help out with your daughter, it will be a great opportunity for you to put in that extra phase in your work. We believe in you and when your moment will come, you will be as a young and hungry lion.
And she’ll bring a nice boost when she gets back!
Yes, she's the rock in the family.
Just watched a video in Danish with Frederik Andersen and he got a question "hardest name to pronounce in NHL and your name came up. ;)
I might be up there on the list hah
@@KasimirKaskisuoOfficial naaaah cmon your name rolls of the tounge like fresh lemonade Kas😂
Great Video Kaz lots of good tips - As a beer league goalie and only playing once a week it's hard to not think about a bad game or loss but what I try to do is go cover a game for game for another team in another division or even league and get all the bad mojo out in a game that means nothing to me personally. I tend to be able to wash away the negativity in another teams crease.
As a fellow goalie, this is great advice. You should only be worried about the things you can control, because worrying about the other stuff won't actually do you any good. On the contrary, if you know you're on top of the things you can control, you are confident you will make the most of the next opportunity, and you will play with more confidence as a result.
Less you think the better in a way, way too many variables in sports so when you ground your focus to yourself, thats an advantage
One thing that has really helped me when I’m not getting the playing time is finding time for play. Doing small games with my teammates on the ice that bring out my competitiveness, just having fun with the sport and remaining why I play.
You play best when youre happy! But playing real games makes me happy, so we have a dilemma haha
@@KasimirKaskisuoOfficial I have fun playing real games too but unfortunately, we don't always control that. the mini-games are a good moral and competition booster too. I dare you to make a video of you doing one with your teammates with a small wager on the line. chack out my channel for some example with a much less professional look than what you can make haha.
old timer here (73) new to goal 1.5 years having the attitude challenge that guys don't care, leaving goalie out to dry then complain on losing short games. Attitude comments well said ,THANKS, will use that , ice time is our practice sessions so positive saves really required to overwhelm the negs.I enjoy, look forward to your truth, no "fluff" . Work hard as we know u will
God bless you Jim 73 still goaltending ❤
Wow, everything happens for a reason but you looked defeated. Stay positive and something good will happen. Been through similar crap in hockey growing up and recently and in life as well and when I'm at my lowest and feeling down and out something comes out of the blue and turns things around. Not that you care to hear but my beer league team wanted to dump me. I was pissed off and upset. I said fine, I will go play, have fun and act as if it's my last game I'll ever play cause I didn't know if it was. I wanted to go out on my own terms. Went into the playoffs and following season with a 6-1 record, 3 shutouts and 4 goals allowed. I made them eat there words and it felt good. Also thanks for the Chestie. Modified it a bit but working well. Keep your head up, stay positive and something good will happen. Just be ready to dominate when it does!
Nice video. What perked up my ears is when I heard that your mom was coming to help out with Fox while your wife was gone. I would love to see a little bit of your mom on video.
Keep going, Kaz! We know that you’re a game winner, and we know that you will prove it! 💙🤍💛
The pads are SICKKKK ❤
Love this ! Rooting for u my friend!!!! ❤️🧠🥅⛸️🏒
Wishing you the best Kas. I saw what was going on and it's upsetting to me and I consider myself mentally strong. Just keep your head up and walk into practice everyday believing you are better than Mally and will take your job back. That was my attitude back in the day when I had a new coach come in. Got my job back soon after. Best of luck
Keep going Kaz! Great video!
I compartmentalize my work from my home life. When I leave for work I get my mind ready, focus on the daily tasks I need to accomplish and knock them out. When I am done for the day I leave work at work. For you it’s more difficult because it’s not a 9-5 job and the future is uncertain. You can’t let your mind live in those uncertain moments, you have to be able to step away so you can be a good dad, a good husband, a leader of your family. When the mental challenges arrive you have to find your mentor and communicate the hardships, seek their guidance and lean on what they have learned and what worked or didn’t work for them. You said it best that you have to keep rolling at 110%, watch out for any pity parties or mental speed bumps that slow you down, avoid those pitfalls at any cost. You have a beautiful family that will help you get rid of those negative feelings, they share those ups and downs with you!
Yeah performance based sports come with that extra stress haha
Very very good video Kaz . I think Babcock's speech is spot on . I also believe and I've heard other goalies state being relaxed and not tense is a key. Tension kills flow . It's like when I try too hard I play worse . When I let the game come to me and read and react I play better . I just wish I had started playing when I was younger. I love it and it's fun . Good luck and keep positive on you journey.
Less thinking = better
My daughter and I are cheering you on, she is still overjoyed to have met you after the match against Malmö, even though we disturbed you when you were eating and got to take a picture with you. Your time will come and we really have 2 damn good goalkeepers in Leksand now.
No worries! Glad we could say hi
I thought you looked especially sharp at beginning of the season. Your best hockey is still in front of you. I always found (as a former competitive goalie) that shrinking things down and not thinking too much big picture, rather focusing on what's happening right in front of me right now, was helpful when things didn't feel like they were coming so easy. It's so easy to get caught up in the narrative, and then you become the narrative. One puck, one save. Rinse. Repeat.
Live in the moment since thats all we have and can control
I was looking for a video like this for a long time. Thank you ❤
Hope it helps😅
You Kaskisuo and I have much in common when it comes to being a hockey goalie. That is: We both know that we can be unvelievable good, better than the mosts goalies out there. You’ve shoen it for people several times. But sometimes, you havent. Sometimes you’ve been mid or even bad. And people stopped belive in you and your skills.
I know what the problem is. I’ve found it Kaskisuo. I’ve found the solution too. :To remember that it’s fun! It’s your dream to be a goalie.
But finding keys to remembering that it's fun to be a goalie, thats up to you.
You talk a lot about confidence in the video and that it's all about that. That is a fact. I view it this way: Confidence is one of the most important keys to remembering that it's fun to be a goalie.
Remember Kaskisuo. It’s fun! It’s all about that. If you find keys to remember that its fun to goaltending (epecially in games) you will get insanely better
Wow, thats exactly what i feel right now!
Having a hard time geting games even tho i feel like the better goalie.
This video help so mouch right now, just to know the pros also can have a hard time some times.
Keep up the good work bro 🙏🏻💪🏻
Everything is temporary, always act and do what you believe in and put in the work
Keep it up, kaz! You will come back even stronger
My goat
Kas, not they it matters but I do like playing well for the teams I play for. Be it my regular beer league or subbing for anyone who needs it. It’s just the tendy mindset. My son, also a goalie for his club team, we have a ritual. Every game, before puck drop and in between periods (usually I help in the box or scoreboard/scoresheet) I always ask him: “Do you believe in you? Because I believe in you. Go have a great period and hey, have fun. If you give up goals, write them off as charity. Learn from it and forget about it.” Just our ritual. He likes it and so do I but he knows our ritual will come to an end when he moves up. I told him just to say it to himself. Stay positive, stay happy, move the feet to any music, talk to himself and say, hey… l do something here that there are way less kids in Cincinnati do. I play one of the hardest positions in all of sports and that is something there. That’s something there.
Fox saying good buy breaks my heart..
Keep fighting kaz!
Yeah thats true kaz, but in my head its a no brainer to play with mantas now because he's super hot right now!
Thanks for sharing the mental dilemma of a goalie. The team is doing great and thats what its all must be about right? Mantas doing the games of his life… But its a looong season. Thats really pro mind an tips in this video. High quality stuff 🙏
Exactly, long season. Its how about you finish
I'm sure that you will be brilliant in the goal when you get the chance. I hope that you will play against Oskarshamn. Your playstyle fits against Oskarshamn. Good and important video by the way. You inspire young goalies
We belive in you kaz!
Very inspiring video!
You've built your foundation brick by brick. Maybe it's time to light a competitive fire in that chimney. Fight to stop everything Kas!
Its always there!
So sad seeing Fox cry like that poor Fox.
Thanks so much for sharing . Mindfulness and just taking one moment at a time can be helpful .what language do you think in ¿
My thing would be focus on what you can control. You can’t control what a coach or you boss decides but you can control how you react to that decision. Also don’t let emotions control you.
Nobody elses decisions or actions changes you, your skill or your value
Awwww, poor Fox! Seriously, though, you've got a great attitude.
From a managements perspective. What tactics/comments etc. have you found work best to motivate that player whose getting the bad news? To help them create your mindset.
Everyone takes it differently, for some the cold short news can be better, some may need to be buttered up and given reasons etc
Its not easy when your partner is the best keeper in SHL right now, hard to bet that, but when your chance is coming you has to take that opportunity
great vid pal
mate, I don't really have any tips. I'm just following LeksandsIF only because you and your vlog. I kinda find it shit you haven't been playing lately, but heads up and keep on working for. Looking forward to your next game and your next vlog!
I hope you get to play next game against Oskarshamn.
Can always come to the UK and help my team if you want game time!
CHL doesn’t help either as there’s been less 3 game weeks because of it. And with Mantas playing the best hockey of his life being #1 in the league both in SVS% and GAA makes it harder to pass him up. But I’m sure you will take your chance once it comes and be an absolute brick wall in net. I’m cheering for you Kaz
Kaz, as always a COOL video! THANK YOU for the next issue! Bro, how sad it is to watch you on the bench, you have been in reserve for 5 matches in a row, I feel sorry for you from the bottom of my heart in a purely brotherly way. Is it normal for the Swedish Championship to be pickled for so long? What does the coach say at all, or is he just silent? What is your relationship with Mantas?
Hey Kaz! How much time do you spend stretching and regenerating on an average day?
Pystytkö käsitellä jollain videolla mailankäyttöä torjunnoissa?
I find it helpful to understand what it is that I attribute my motivation to, to even want to BE confident in the first place. Is it purely intrinsic, my passions, my life goals? Is it extrinsic, my kids, my family, money? I don’t think it necessarily has to be intrinsic, its just whatever works best for you. What motivates you Kas? :)
A lot of motivation from family to the passion for the game. Everything plays into it so gotta use them all
Happy belated birthday
FYI there's a typo in the title
Good catch!
what size chestie do you use?
XL body, L arms
Why don't you use Konekts? Is there something what just won't suit you
I have been using the konekts for about 3 weeks now
@@KasimirKaskisuoOfficial Okay, so I looked wrong.. How do you like them so far? Maybe Kalle Palander can give some tips to use those slalom boots
First. Keep up the videos Kas.
I’m in a high school freshman league and i played good 3 games ago and the past 3 games I can’t stop a puck for my life any advice
Practice and battle hard! Then you feel more prepared going to next game, one shot at a time

@@Drew-qm5si you gotta think about what you did well that first game and what was lacking the last three from there you can build upon those things in practice; hope this helps

I have noticed that you lost some weight to get faster in the net but with that you loose energy and also you need to beef up with more pancakes and pasta to get energized because you were great in the net before you slimmed down and it's all mental that you try all remedies to get better and I understand that but if you don't eat properly especially an professional goaltender in SHL needs fuel in order to operate also your brain needs the energy in order to work being a professional goaltender is very hard and try to get back to your size and weight again and you will see how things are going to get better good luck 😀
I feel better, i am in better shape and have played better, fat-kaz is history haha
