One safety issue at the start of the video. Always disconnect the power line at the dock source fist. That way, there is zero chance of accidently falling in the water while holding a live plug.
After watching your channel for a while, I am so relieved I got rid of my vessel a few years ago. Best to have a friend with a boat. I am happy to bring a bottle of wine !!
Another great video Brooke. Just so you know what you guys are calling stuffing is called packing. They make it in different sizes and materials. I feal sorry for Braden after seeing whats floating in the water. I hope you will tell us what it turns out to be the problem.
Everything mechanical will eventually fail... Looks like a good emergency kit in a nice box! Does the putty have an expiration date? Spill kits we have in trucks have fuel tank putty that is only good for a year or so...
A stethoscope will help find elusive noise's Braden, plus you can listen to your bearings running, you'll know when one is off song before to much damage is done. Fair winds into 2022 Mermaid Monster.
Thanks for another great video. Since the thumping sound goes away when you lower the RPM, your problem could be the cutless bearing. Have a very Happy and Safe New Year!
Happy New Year! Flies! If you look on you tube there is a great DIY with a 2 liter bottle (although Ive done it with a smaller bottle too) and some apple cider vinegar to trap and kill the flies. It does work, I swear!
I have a screwdriver just like that, and I never thought to use it as a nut driver. That’s a great idea. Also, it looked like your shaft had excessive axial vibrations (moving back-and-forth). You might want to look at your thrust bearing.
Boat life is stressful sometimes, it’s just not always pretty floating around. It seems right when you feel everything is okay, something mechanical happens! From down to ice makers, condensation, noises , smells lol. So true!
Watched a few episodes so far and I like the size of it.. But when I was looking around for one's that might be on sale I came across a 2011 Nordhavn 55' model and it was only 124,500 pounds or 62.25 tons fully loaded.. I liked that yours was 75 tons.. Guess I'll have to look to a larger size for that weight..?
Good Sunday morning!! Missed y’all but this week’s news seems a bit distressing on your end. I noticed Branden mentioned a probable cause being the cutlass bearing. In the vid you removed the shaft packing but I didn’t see if you used a dial indicator on the shaft once it was removed to see if there was any excessive play. I know you had the boat on the hard last year doing the bottom and drive inspection and from the looks of the props, nothing was done at that time. Hopefully you’re in warmer climate to get pulled out to have all bearings replaced and shaft inspection. Sorry to hear the season is starting off this way for you. I know you’ll be headed into uncharted waters and want everything seaworthy. As always, thank you for a peek into your life experiences weekly and May 2022 be your best year yet!! Be safe and much ❤️!!
My guess is a Cutlass Bearing? Is there any movement in the shaft if you shake it? Did Brandon do that when he was under the boat in the "Condom Sea"?? That was gross!!
The stuff that you're guys just pulled out is called a packing gland That only lets a little bit of water in but not much and the reason why is to lubricate the propeller shaft Because if you do not lubricate that shaft with water it will get hot And usually you will have to pull the boat out of the water and replace the packing land if it starts to come apart
Hudson River Whitefish. They usually swim in schools. Disgusting place to go for a swim. But you guys need a dial indicator to put on the shaft. It sounds like the flex coupling is going bad. Hope it’s not that but at least with the dial indicator you can monitor if the shaft wobble is getting worse.
Well I believe it is your Port stabilizer. We shall see next week if my guess is correct. I think it is loose and when you are hit by a following sea on port it lifts the boat on the port side and causes it to shift slightly and drops down and as it adjust to compensate for the roll it has slack and makes a noise as it gets to the right position.
Hi From NW Washington! Happy New Year to you, and the crew. Just a thought, but you could use a small Vaccuum cleaner to suck up the flies. I taught my daughter to use one on spiders as she is arachnaphobic, Worked well, and stopped the screaming.
Going under the boat, flip that dive knife over handle down on your upper arm. Its much easier to access and replace and cut yourself free if there is web in your wheel. IF there is stuff in the wheel, the knife will get wound in it. Murphy guarantees it. Since it only happens when under changing load, you might check the oil in your reduction gear. See if there are metal flakes. Your description sounds like gear meshing noise and that gearbox has helical cut gears that take the full load under power. It would also get much quieter (4:1 reduction or thereabouts) when you bring the throttle back.
I'd bet if Braden were put in an empty room, given a notepad & pen, and asked to create a "SeaKit" he'd come up with 90% of what's in that box... at a fraction of the cost. OOPS! Hope that wasn't a Christmas gift from Brooke. 🙃
I guess your marriage is breaking down or you are feeling slighted - so then you mention he is wearing a woman's shirt...nice - good wife great partner - pass. i will unsubscribe due to that comment alone.
Sad to see you go. Braden and I love each other so so much. We like to tease one another. He does the same thing right back at me. Maybe you don’t understand our humor. It might not be for everyone. ❤️ hopefully you stick around!!
For what it’s worth, the amount of time I’ve spent Brooke and Braden, they have a VERY healthy relationship. During this episode I was literally LOL during story time. Totally felt like I was in the conversation with them, I was thinking how well they do with each other.

David is a cheapskate.
Been following you for a bit. The Part 2 video of your boat tour clinched my fondness for your videos. You've a great life and family. Keep going! :))
Nice to see everyone laughing during stressful mechanical problems. Hope you get the problem solved soon.
Y’all are hanging in there - no panic just getting it done one step at a time with little humor in the mix - Enjoying you sharing these adventures 👍😊

I think I should start a support group for Braden… so much to deal with 😉🤣
A support group these people have millions

Enjoy the show! How was everyone’s holiday season?!
Had excellent time with my better half and the family! Hope yours was great Mermaid Monster crew! Be safe!
Nice and quiet thanks just me the Mrs and two teenager daughters, hope yours went well
I am about over Covid pneumonia including a 3 week stay in the hospital, so I am anxious to have a blessed 2022. Hope your holiday season was special.

Get that Diver some Cipro - STAT !!! Nasty, nasty water. This a wonderful episode that shows what Boat Life is really like :)
That SeaKit looks awesome!
That sea kit is pretty cool! 👍👍⚒️⚒️🔨🔨
Was that the Red Elvis playing for the diving scene?

True true.

When this happens to me I turn up the radio.🤗
Ah , a cliff hanger to keep us in suspense ! The solution will bug me all week :-(
Good luck with you're repairs🙏

When did you last replace the cutlass bearings?
Not long ago
Nice kit!
I wonder who gave it to us?! Haha 😉❤️
Yeah! I’m definitely not jumping in that water with the floaty thingy just hanging out waiting to come stick to my face or something! lol 😂
Boat life is stressful sometimes, it’s just not always pretty floating around. It seems right when you feel everything is okay, something mechanical happens! From down to ice makers, condensation, noises , smells lol. So true!
That was a very memorable swim for sure
Once again you jump in…. Next I vote Brooke goes for a swim!
That water sure looked filthy! How far could you see with the flashlight? How deep was it there?
💩 to you Jay
Lol oh really??? Ya know those batteries we have for you?? 😂
Stuffing?😅 Your flax in the stuffing box looks pretty good.
That sound is coming from the transmission output shaft flange...
My solution: turn up the stereo😀 Just kiddin…hope it is an inexpensive repair. Happy new year. Matt
happy new year you guys and gals also Braden please strap your dive knife to you calf easier to access in a hurry. hope your all doing well
One of your best, thanks

HAPPY BELATED NEW YEAR FROM AUSTRALIA

What was the water temp when inspecting the props?
Cold. Lol

It’s not the stabilizer, we do know that ☺️
@@ABOARDMERMAIDMONSTER Well since this video was taken in September I hope you got it fixed
Ahh, the dreaded Scaleless Trojan fish
Hahah this comment made me chuckle 🤣
Looks like a "coney island whitefish". They don't bite...
Hope you found the issue. Had the same issue and it was the coupling had shifted.
Well Merry Christmas and Have an amazing New Year!
Happy New year , all the best
Hope the problem was an easy fix. Hope all on board MERMAID MONSTER had not just a MERRU CHRISTMAS but a HAPPY NEW YEAR as well.

Got watch out for those “White Pointers”🤢🤮🤑hope Braden wasn’t harmed in anyway!
He’s A ok! And it’s Braden not Brandon but that’d be funny wouldn’t it! Haha
Oops 😬

packing looked dry didnt see any water drip on the shaft coming out of the stuffing box thats no good
If exhaust is below the water line maybe its the exhaust coming out of the water. Well its not that.
I think you have a bushing going out..... 🤔
Dry Dock and get that shaft seal replaced. Why risk it?
Cuz it doesn’t need to be replaced ☺️
It's ok just pull out another million and all will be ok
It’s the hole in the water again, you know, the one you drop money in.
Good luck finding the gremlin… 🍀

@@ABOARDMERMAIDMONSTER Double oops! I'm sure it's a wonderful product.
Lekker man lekker
I lost it when I saw the condom in the water....😂
Sooooo bad.
This is so funny if you know and I know but I wont tell...ENJOY ! LMAO !!!
I’m trying to identify that rare jelly fish species!
😂🤣
Lol that water reminds me of the water in Naples Italy lol yuck...
🤮🤮
Yeah, you definitely want to keep your mouth close when in that water. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm guessing cutlass bearing.......
Yes, many times if you sleep on it you will figure it out.
Start checking the thrust bearing
Damm. That kit cost more than my car ,,,
I don't think Nordhavns "break." They just, "cease to function in the desired manner." *lol*
😂
Yeah, gross. But look at it this way. Maybe, just maybe, you got the ‘gross one’ out of the way for 2022! (Maybe!) 😳yuk.
Red Alfa Man
Good thing Brooke didn’t go in the water or she might have ended up pregnant 🤭🤣
🤣
Just how many showers did ya take yuck. Not sure there is enough hot water to clean that off..
