- Orangutan Schubbi is an important ambassador of his species in ZOOM Adventure World Gelsenkirchen. We spoke to the animal keeper Markus Kirchberg about this special orangutan.
Schubbi is the head of Gelsenkirchen's family of orangutans. These sympathetic great apes live in a modern facility, with an outside and an inside part. The orangutans live in a very special community:

Of course, Schubbi occupies a special position in the family, but visitors also recognize the handsome orangutan male quite quickly when they look at the animals. What you don't immediately see is his handsome age.
However, Schubbi is still very fit for his old age and has all members of the family well under control without being too bossy. That makes him a particularly likeable head of the group.
Markus Kirchberg already knows him very well and talks about his character traits in the video, but also how Schubbi is an important ambassador of the species. Orangutans are endangered and the ZOOM Adventure World Gelsenkirchen also draws attention to this.
Without modern zoological gardens, the orangutans would have no chance of survival. But Schubbi and his family are important ambassadors for this endangered species. People will only protect what they know and love.

Die Firma, welche Schubbi dem Zoo Basel geschenkt hatte heisst Schubarth + Co AG. Der Inhaber, Willy Schubarth, mit Spitznamen Schubbi, hatte ihn zum 100 jährigen Jubiläum der Schubarth + Co AG dem Zoo geschenkt und ihn Schubbi getauft....
