  • Threw together this compilation video of some feeding sessions for my African Clawed Frogs. I must add that the Canadian Night Crawlers in this feeding are quite large for my smaller frogs, sometimes they will tear them with their claws but it's not always guaranteed so just make sure you prep their meals to adequate proportions based on their size to avoid feeding/health complications.

    You look like a dedicated clawed frog owner. I really miss having these frogs. Its very hard to get clawed frogs here in Alaska. My only option to get them shipped here is through grow a frog and only in the summer months. If you know of any breeders or distributors please let me know I would love to obtain some to breed again. Thanks

      Unfortunately I don't know of any breeders but once you obtain a mature pair it isn't difficult to breed them as long as they are in the proper conditions. All of the frogs I have came from local pet shops in my area.

    What could you feed a baby clawed frog 🐸? I plan on adopting one!

    • @chrisscottYT
      @chrisscottYT  Год назад

      Some stores carry micro pellet feed specifically for aquatic frogs and tadpoles. There's a few options online where you can purchase it but you can also feed them bloodworms, live brine shrimp and other small insects/larvae. I would get them the pellets as a staple nutrition and supplement them with the frozen/live items so they're getting a balanced diet.

    Is it okay if the frogs eat some of the rocks

    • @chrisscottYT
      @chrisscottYT  Год назад

      No, if they eat something small enough they could pass it but eating stones could cause an obstruction. You should use sand or just go bare bottom versus using gravel. You can use large stones that they can't fit in their mouth but I personally prefer sand because most of the debris sits on top instead of falling through the cracks of the stone, makes for easier maintenance and parameter control.

    • @chrisscottYT
      @chrisscottYT  Год назад

      The worms might be too big for him to eat. Try giving smaller worms but do so in moderation. Worms are a good protein source occasionally but supplement them with other food options as well.

    I need help! My female ACF had these little parasitic worms attached to her belly, they were greenish brown. Now she's swollen.....and her front hands are blackening in color......Have you ever had this problem?? What medication can I safely use to deworm/parasite removal??? Ty so much

    • @chrisscottYT
      @chrisscottYT  Год назад +1

      Sorry to hear that, I never experienced an issue with parasites with the ACF's, treatment might differ based on the species of parasite and the severity. I recommend joining an ACF forum for future advice but if you have access to an exotic vet familiar with herpetology/aquatics that would be your best option. You may have to do a complete water change/clean- out of the aquarium and place them in a quarantine tank temporarily while being medicated. The bloat could potentially be a separate issue as well, usually related to bacteria but seek advice from a vet if possible so you can start an effective treatment immediately.

    • @chrisscottYT
      @chrisscottYT  2 года назад +1

      You only need to feed them a decent portion of food around 3 to 4 times per week. The quantity of each portion depends on what you're feeding them.

      This is my 75 gallon with black aquarium sand. If you want to save money and don't mind tan colored substrate, I recommend pool filter sand. It is aquarium safe and more cost effective.

    • @chrisscottYT
      @chrisscottYT  2 года назад

      @@mekkinelisabet8768 Even with the most adequate filtration system I personally wouldn't recommend putting more than 2, maybe 3 full grown adults in a 30 gallon. Some people try to go by the "5 gallons per fish" rule but that doesn't apply to all species because of waste production variation and other factors. A 30 gallon or standard 29 gallon tall is fine but these guys would do better in a shorter/longer tank because of how they feed and because they go to the surface several times a day for oxygen. With that being said, I would say 10 to 15 gallons of water per full grown adult female in my opinion. I say "female" because they get much larger than the males at full maturity and will likely consume and produce more waste. I hope this helps! 🐸

  • @brokenglass2901
    @brokenglass2901 Год назад

    Do you only feed them earthworms? Because I am changing my frogs diet to Reptomin and wondering if that is a good choice. Also, how are yours so big, mine is 3 years old and it is still small!

    • @chrisscottYT
      @chrisscottYT  Год назад

      No, they eat a variety of insects and worms on top of their staple dried feed. Is it possible you have an african dwarf frog and not an ACF? Food and environment will play a big role in the size of your frogs, bigger the tank the better. Good water parameters/filtration and a balanced diet is a must.

      @@chrisscottYT I have an African clawed frog. Do you use a sponge filter?

    • @chrisscottYT
      @chrisscottYT  Год назад

      @@brokenglass2901 No, your best bet is a canister filter or a sump system. A sponge filter is fine at the right size if you only have a few frogs and it can handle the amount of water but when it comes to frogs or turtles I still prefer canister or sump set-up, UV sterilizer as well. Some of the Aquatop canisters offer a built in UV sterilizer which is what I was using at the time.

    • @chrisscottYT
      @chrisscottYT  Год назад

      @@brokenglass2901 Yeah, the sponge filter is more than efficient enough for just one frog as long as you are not over feeding. When choosing bare bottom over substrate, I used surface dwelling plants like duck weed, water lettuce and water hyacinth.
