  • How to load a film in an 8mm / Super 8 autoload silent film projector. By subscriber request. Fuji's version of Super 8 was called Single 8 - same format, different camera cartridge (and Fuji film was on a polyester base). This machine can project the original 8mm (also called Regular, Standard, or Normal 8) and Super 8 / Single 8. Best to do a test with a junk film (buy a cheap cartoon or something on ebay) before trusting a projector with your precious home moves. Some autoload machines work fine, others can tend to crunch up the film. Trimming the head of the white leader, and ensuring that it isn't too curly, can help with successful auto-threading.

Amazing, when i was a kid at mid 70´s my grandfather gives me one for a birthday present Fujicascope M3, and a old camera, i did a lot of family movies and it gives me years of fun, since those days one of my passions is the photography and movie art. Lot of memories! Best regards.

Very cool. I’ve never used a film movie camera or projector before, but have always been curious,. Machine looks brand new! Look forward to checking out your other videos. Fun seeing that old footage, too.

I've been using movie film since 1962. Good vintage equipment (1950s/80s) can be inexpensive and fun to play around with. Older machines (1920s/40s) usually need some work. Enjoyed the Intro to your radio series - looking forward to the other installments. I'm planning to add some new videos to my 'Vintage Radios' Playlist in the next few weeks.

It always makes me feel really sad and melancholic when I see dogs in old cine film. Not sure why specifically. Think it may be because they have long gone and probably long forgotten. People get much more of a send of and are remembered more than our beloved pets. Is this one of your films? Beautiful black and white dog

Great walk-through on how to use this projector and its components and also differences between the film types! Unfortunately after powering mine on for the first time there is no rotation of the spindles although you can hear a motor and fan spinning which can be adjusted by the speed control - perhaps worn out internal belts? Also the bulb is not coming on so looks like the unit will need a bit of attention before it becomes useful again! Hopefully then can try and record some film using a video camera - Do you have any tips for doing this? You previously mentioned adjusting the projector speed regarding the recording video frame rate?

Hi Chris, Yes - sounds like a belt has broken. But also - check the "stop film" lever (I show this in the video) in case that's stuck "on". If the belt is the problem, you should find the remains of it, you then need to measure the diameter of what it would have been (that is, the diameter when it was a circle before it broke) and try to find a suitable belt on eBay. (Easier: search "Cine projector belt for FUJICASCOPE M36 FUJI" currently on ebay.co.uk, might be on ebay.com as well). Take out the lamp, and if you have a meter, test for continuity. If you don't have a meter, you might be able to look at the filament to see if it has blown. Worth persevering, as this is a good projector. As this machine has a variable speed control, it's very suitable for 'telecine' (recording film to video by projection) projects. Just vary the speed until any 'pulsing' of the image disappears. This will give a good (natural speed) result for any amateur films shot at the usual 16 or 18 frames per second. Professional films (24 fps) will appear slowed down using this method.

Many thanks fr yr video, it's been quite useful for me. I have a similar projector, model Fujicascope M33.
I am trying to watch my old super 8 and standard 8 films but the projector has been stored for so many years that, in spite it is actually working, some functions don't work (for example, I can only wach the standard 8 ones but not the super 8 although the projector has both options).
Any idea of how to arrange it? I am trying to look for some technician but it's not easy to find him/her.
    Many thanks for your help.
    Best regards from Barcelona, Spain.

Are you sure the R / S switch - next to the green square - is in the right position? (R for Regular or standard 8mm, S for Super 8). It's difficult to analyze these sort of problems without being able to examine the machine. Good luck!

Hello Horipet, can you help me with my 8mm projector? The film seems to me be out of point, there is no image neither focus on it. Can you explain that?

Name of projector? Sounds like the lens is in the wrong position, but without seeing the machine, it's difficult to know.
