The “we don’t need your salvation” line is probably towards Barnabas. Barnabas’ lines so far and his character description make it seem like he thinks he’s the shepherd who’s going to save the sheep and lead them “unto tomorrow” as he’s said before. We know he also wants the crystals gone, just in a different way. The JP version of “your efforts will avail us not” is more along the lines of “the way you’re doing this will save no one”

Yeah i could definetly see Barnabus having a little bit of a god complex, thinking he's the only one that can save the world. But I imagine that with that salvation comes some price which isn't worth the "salvation"

When Clive rips through the Iron Kingdom Crystal there are orange cracks in the space around it, very similar to the blue cracks around Typhon when he is impaled by Ramuh’s staff. You can also see through those blue cracks in the Typhon face close up and see the blue Crystal area. Strong evidence that the crystals are hiding parasitic monsters either behind an illusion or in another dimension. Also looks like Cid gets hurt striking the blue Crystal so he transforms into Ramuh, strikes the Crystal again, revealing Typhon.

Very interesting theories! I always saw the effects around the crystal as just that, special effects. Maybe some aether coming off the crystal as it's being destroyed. But I like where your head is at, I think its very likely the fallen and the crystals are linked so I could see something like this being true potentially.

Yay new video! I’ll add to this comment as I watch. They’re saying all they’ve shown so far is from the first 6 hours of the game, which is so amazing to me if it’s true. Think of all that we have in store for us!!
I feel like Dion is being used as a tool and lied to about what he is being used for. Like he is being told that what he is doing is good, but really it’s bad and he is too naive to know. I feel like he is in for a reckoning when he realizes how he’s been being misled and used because what he actually has done is against his morals. What happens after could be anything, he could deal with it rationally or emotionally, to dire consequences.
I feel like the crystals can bloom, maybe as a defense mechanism?
17:08 interesting that the red star/planetoid/thing isn’t visible here. I feel it may be a red herring, but maybe not who knows!
19:01 I fully believe Clive is special in some way that allows him to wound, or destroy, the mother crystals.
21:26 absolutely! I think it will be framed by someone reading and recounting the tale from some point in the future.
Thanks for the video/s, they’ve all been great. I hope you continue to make videos after it’s released as well. I appreciate your perspective on this game and I imagine I’ll enjoy your thoughts on other things as well. Cheers!

Thanks for the support! Yeah another person brought up the missing red star, i personally think its just because the moon is so bright that you cant see the stars immediately around it. That said he brought up that it could be a different celestial body like the sun or something like that, and that it could in fact be taking place in space.
Also for the blooming crystal I'm pretty sure its the rebirth of a crystal, which would be super cool.

I’m case I’m right (I’m not), I’d like to say that I know absolutely nothing beyond the demo and these fantastic analysis’s.
I think it’d be really interesting if the Blight is due to the previous civilization trapping the Eikons to the mother crystals, thus removing their inherent presence in the world and allowing the Blight to eventually spread. Since the Eikons are connected to the mother crystals, it makes sense that attacking them kills the Eikon. That’s where Ifrit comes in. In a twist of fate, Ifrit isn’t bound to any mother crystal, and so is able to destroy them and the other Eikons without reservation, allowing their “spirit” to return to the world. It will be a huge fit blow to humanity who has come to rely on the convenience of these powers, but a huge boon for the world, whose natural elemental guardians have returned.

On your theory about potentially someone in the future is reading the events of the game in a book, I just wanna point out that a similar narrative device was used in FF Tactics with the whole story of the game being revealed from the Durai Papers. I would not be surprised if a similar narrative device is used in this game seeing as YoshiP is a fan of Mastuno's work. As well the similarity with the Heavensward book you pointed out being a narrative device already used in FFXIV

If the Fallen are an ancient alien civilization, I think it's possible Clive is one of the Fallen, or an ancestor of them, which is why he's able to destroy the mothercrystals. I think this may be why they called the title "Moongazing", he's looking back to where he originated from, because the phrase moongazing often has an implication of longing or want, and I almost certainly think we will end up going there at some point. I'm not sure if this is accurate or not but the shot of Clive vs. the Megaflares and the focus on the super bright moon may indicate that the Moon may be getting brighter as we destroy the crystals, almost as if it's charging up or accumulating more energy. This may tie back in to how Barnabas thinks it's pointless that Clive is destroying the crystals, since he may be privy to something about their "true" purpose.
In one of the interviews one of the directors likened the crystals to essentially being oil fields or an energy resource. We also don't know much about the Blight, but my theory is that the Blight spreads as the energy of the crystals is consumed, almost as some sort of waste byproduct (maybe a metaphor for pollution or destroying the planet or nations waging wars over natural resources). This might tie in with the voiceline between Jill and possibly Dion? where the male voice says,"You mean to tell me the mothercrystals are why the world is dying?" Later when she says,"I was forced to kill, you do it by choice!" I think she could actually be speaking to Dion even, in that while he has a moral compass, he still willingly chooses to go through with his actions despite questioning them.
Perhaps they're draining Valisthea of its energy, thus allowing the Fallen to return as the real enemies in the latter half of the game. I also find it interesting that when we see the shots of the moon, we almost always see the red star-looking body next to it. To me it looks like a fading star, kinda what red giants look like when they've consumed most of their energy. I think this could be foreshadowing to what could happen to Valisthea and the planet if Clive isn't able to save the world. We've also seen a Dragoon-like enemy in the trailers called the "Knight of the Dying Sun" and I think this title is a little too much of a coincidence given all the shots of the moon+fading star. Perhaps the Fallen have been using the crystals to siphon energy for their own purposes, then something/someone (ancestor of Clive/Ifrit's original Dominant) did something to make their civilization collapse and fall down to Valisthea. Perhaps the mothercrystals were literally parts of the moon that fell down to Valisthea as debris.
Barnabas says when he slashes Clive,"And thus is the light of hope severed" and I think it's interesting he's calling him "the Light of Hope", which doesn't sound so much as a title bestowed to him by the people, since we see in this trailer that the crew's/Clive's actions to destroy the crystals are not really wanted by the general populace. It sounds more like a title, perhaps a prophecy or something (tying in with the themes of fate we've seen thus far). This also might tie in with how the voice at the end of one of the trailer's (perhaps the hooded man) says,"Awaken oh child of fate.. Awaken.. Ifrit." I think they're referring to the same thing about Clive here, in that his arrival and being the one to awaken Ifrit, who was previously an unknown Eikon, whereas the others, such as Phoenix, have been known about and acquired through various means. Clive already possessing Ifrit might be why he was skipped over when it came to inheriting Phoenix, who typically went to the first son of the Archduke.
Sorry I wrote so much but I love your videos dude, keep up the good work. I know there's a lot of assumptions here but these are the theories I've formed after watching these trailers and your videos so lmk what you think.

I love story narration framed from a book.
Heavensward might be the most recent one to do this and makes sense XVI trying to do it as well given they have the same writer.
But let's not forget the OG to do it; FF Tactics' story was being framed/narrated off of the _Durrai Papers_ which were documents/books that not only recounts the tale of how _The War of the Lions_ was ended by King Delita, but also how the act of the real hero behind the scenes contributed greatly in saving the land which the main narrative of the game follows.
This was a game by Yasumi Matsuno; Maehiro, XVI's writer was a part of that team that made FFTactics.

From what I heard, Yoshi P said that the trailers so far reveal little information in a jp interview I think or picture radio station. So I wonder how much of the event that you map out which make sense to me at least, happen later than 6 hrs in the game as one of the previewer mention that about 80% which is an estimate, in the trailers happens around the first 6 hrs of gameplay 😂.

So we know that the Benedikta/Garuda fight is about 5-7 hours into the game, from the devs as a source. With that said if you go back to my story video the order of events really havent changed much. So anything regarding Hugo, Barnabus, or Dion I would say are past the first 6 hours. With that said I also dont think anything I just talked about is further than maybe 60% through the game. So I think there's a lot of stuff that we havent seen AT ALL, and from I think he's right that the vast majority of the footage theyve shown is very early on. Honestly I dont think I know much about the story beyond like 10-12 hours which is my guess for the Hugo fight.

I think the Dominant of Leviathan created a rift in the ocean and is serving Barnabas. The ships that Clive's group takes kind of also allude to a sea Leviathan boss battle. In all honesty, I believe a Shiva vs. Leviathan battle is more reasonable because Ifrit can't fly over the ocean while Shiva can and her freezing powers will be useful in fighting Leviathan.

Great video as always! In terms of what we see at 3:16, there was a post on the FFXVI subreddit that basically confirms this. You can see that exact spot in the background of some footage of Clive exploring the Hideaway. Also in terms of Dion in the part of the Dominance trailer you pointed out, I was wondering if you thought the voice line in that part of the trailer was Dion or not (specifically the whole "the chaos you would wreak" line). To me, I think it may be a younger Dion from before the initial timeskip, since it sounds different from his voice lines in the Salvation trailer, but still to me seems like Dion is the best fit. But just curious on your thoughts.

    • @thalwegg6535

My counterpoint, the light of the moon is just reflected sunlight so you would still get the effect if the moon was as bright as it appears to be. Plus we dont see the red dot because it's so bright that it hides the nearby stars. Something I actually cut from the video is the thought that the flower that we see bloom is blooming at dusk and all the combat scenes are at night. So I think that the flower and the moon are somehow linked, and that's the reason why the moon is as unbelievably bright as it is.

About the point that the battle with behemoth was happening in crystalline dominion is true but that doesn't mean we cant travel into space in this heated fight, phoenix looks like a ballistic missile in this shot and not flapping his wings.
We do see the flower crumble when the day breaks so either its the moon/flower link you were talking about or Clive managed to destroy it, its just took him the whole night.

Yeah I would agree its possible they could fly up into a low orbit or something like that during the fight. I just dont see this being some like deep space battle. Also I'm a big fan of theories about potentially leaving the planet, so I wont say we will never go to space, it was more that in this particular case based on what we know about the phoenix bahamut fight I'd be very surprised if it was in space.
Also even if it's just coincidence that it takes the whole night for Clive I want to say that they chose the Dusk/Dawn timing very deliberately and as I keep echoing the moon symbolically I think it going to be extremely important. Also when we found out this week that Yonezu wrote the main theme after playing the whole game in an interview yesterday I think that really supports the idea, given he titled the song Moongazing.

Maybe somehow Dominants will go mad become monster like Dark Eikon, Like we seen Lost Titan. and maybe Typhon is first example to go madness and Clive need to stop before become 'Lost'?.
The Fallen Lore make me very curious.

Ah yes, Final Fantasy and fate go together like peanut butter and jelly. I think almost every FF I can think of off the top of my head addresses "Fate" one way or another. Im sure there will be sprinkles of fate all around this entry, we already know about the mothercrystals and fighting back against this idea that theyre beneficial. There's also smaller things like Clive was fated to be phoenix's dominant but instead it was inherited by his brother. But yeah overall I think the crystals, the dominants and most likely the fallen/the gods will play major roles.

Is it possible that Barnabas and Clive are related?

I would be surprised, but I wouldn't say it's impossible. Definitely would be a twist.

@@thalwegg6535 Also, you are the first I've seen to mention anything about the book let alone there being 2 different ones.

Yeah I was really excited when I noticed that as I remember people talking about the book back when Ambition was new, but I think people haven't really gone back to check since I haven't noticed anything on it either. Both the torch symbol and the different ages were completely new info to me.

@@thalwegg6535 before watching your breakdown, I thought the design on the book fit within the design of Odin's mask. I still think it looks like a figure and not a symbol though.
