    with Dick McIntire’s Harmony Hawaiians
    Decca, 535-B, 1935
Ray Kinney was born in Hilo, Hawaii. He had been a performer for many years when he began appearing on bandleader Johnny Noble’s radio show in San Francisco in 1928. That soon led to a recording contract. Kinney was one of several musicians, singers, and composers (among them Dick McIntire and his two brothers) who helped popularize Hawaiian music outside of the Islands.
This record was purchased new in the 1930s, probably by my great-grandparents as a reminder of the years they had spent living in Hawaii.
The accompanying photos belonged to my grandfather, who was in Honolulu often in the early 1900s visiting his mother and stepfather. He worked for a commercial photographer in Manila in 1902, but I don’t think any of these particular photos are his work; most likely he bought them in a souvenir shop in Honolulu.

Ray was my step-great uncle by marriage; my grandmother Kaleimomi Keola married his brother Oliver Kinney. Thank you.

    Hi Anthony.
The colorized photo at 1:36 is interesting, and the tropical avenue of palm trees at 1:48 is lovely. Wonderfully nostalgic photos and music.... - Nice work.
Hope things are going well for you. Best Wishes!
