  • EGYPTLAND (fox-trot)
    (James W. Casey)
    Earl Fuller’s Rector Novelty Orchestra
    Columbia A2722 (78280), 1919.
According to internet sources, Earl Fuller was an early jazz bandleader who helped popularize jazz in the ’teens in New York City, where the band played at Rector’s Restaurant. The band’s xylophonist was Teddy Brown.
Play “Egyptland” a second time and listen carefully just to the xylophone. You will be able to hear how much fun he had with this piece!
“Egyptland” is from an era that produced a number of exotically themed popular songs about faraway lands. “Mummy Mine,” “Cho-Cho San,” and “On the Streets of Cairo” can be found on this channel.
Special thanks to Betty for this record.

Hi Anthony. Thanks for the great music and video. I like the Sphinx. It reminds me a great deal of and old upright piano my grandmother owned. It was from the early 1900's and was done in the "Egyptian motif". At each end of the keyboard it had carved wooden Sphinx's like this one. Anyway, hope your doing well. Sincere regards!
