Of course, but that was Horner being respectfull to Perez. Would you rather have him throw Perez to the lions? And furthermore, as Horner said: Perez also did good things and was quite popular. It's just that he did not do the good things often enough...
Horner has no integrity, RB is the most Toxic team in F1. Yuki deserved it - and Lawson is into the meat grinder - it's probably not even the best thing for him (unlike giving him a season to improve at VCARB with less pressure).
Yes it is quite bizarre if the Red Bull was as dominant as it was in 2023 I would say giving Liam a chance is fair enough but with the field being this tight especially at the top of the table and having Liam with only 11 race starts to all of a sudden compete for top six places is a disaster waiting to happen.
Yuki is going to experience so many 'race incidents' with Lawson next season... 'he didn't give me room, and we touched and he was out of the race, oops... sorry...'.
I think Yuki will look back on this and not feel so bad about it. And who knows, if Liam can't figure out how to drive Max' car? Yuki might get a shot.
Liam will have the same car that Max drives but Max will get the most out of it. Liam will look at himself to find ways to improve while Yuki would probably feel demoralized that he can't match Max. So, Liam has the best possibility of keeping his enthusiasm up while he learns how to drive the RBR.
U need to explain ,why RB never got a good 2nd driver . U have to work on 2nd driver . Checo had filled that gap and was successful with the resources and support he recieved .
Yuki did outqualify Liam 6-0, but the times were very close so it's not as lopsided as it seems. I still would have liked to see Yuki promoted and think it's too quick a move for Lawson.
What's more Lawson outqualified Yuki in the sprints, and in Austin, where Lawson had a back-of-the-grid engine penalty, his Q1 time was quicker than Yuki's time in both Q1 and Q2. And as Horner has noted, Lawson had quicker race pace than Tsunoda.

It’s most likely that Perez’s contract had an exit clause that allowed him to negotiate a mutually agreed exit with compensation for his unfulfilled time with the team. And on the other end there would’ve been a performance clause that would’ve allowed Red Bull to fire him for underperforming. So financially it would’ve been the sensible thing to be paid and say he wanted to leave..
Good interview and there you have it. Work ethic and the RB team like Liam. No matter how much mandate Horner and Marko have if you don't take the whole team with you you are toast. Sad for Yuki, but with Honda backing he will pop up in a contending team in 26 and I trust VCARB do better this year so Yuki can show the value that he brings.
@0:40 yeah I'm sure Perez did...
From New Zealand 🇳🇿!
To all those people belittling Liam Lawson "Do your research Liam Lawson!"
During the Japanese/Pacific Grand Prix in 2021/2022 Liam Lawson, and Yuki Tsonuda were teammates. In that series Liam was faster, stronger, and won the Japanese/Pacific over Yuki.
And as Christian just alluded to Liam Lawson out Performed both Alec Albon, and Rick Cassidy another New New Zealand driver in the DTM in Germany. Liam Lawson should have won that German DTM, after been Blatantly taking out on the 2nd to last corner by the guy's teammate that ended winning the series. Liam Lawson was Very Gracious in his speech, Congratulating the winner,, and blaming himself for losing the DTM Series.
Next Year Liam Lawson will WOW the crowds being a car similar to Max's. The Max, and Liam's Partenership will be 'SOMETHING SPECIAL," for Red Bull, and spectator's.
Liam Lawson as a 7 Year old cart racer wasn't scared of the 8 and 9 Year old, when it came to push and shub Liam Lawson always came out on TOP.
Yuki went 6-0 this year. Your weird cherry picking doesn’t make sense. Admit your boy is worse than Yuki objectively
dont really care about his abilities, as a hispanic he has pissed off everyone of us, disrespected Alonso, Sainz, Colapinto and the middlefinger to Checo IN MEXICO, I hope he gets replaced mid season
@@jackienorris6606 6.0 in qauli!!, not with race cars around him. LL beat him twice in the race. and close enough in 2 others that would have given YS concerns.
Thanks for pointing this out, I watched the entire DTM series and he got ripped off. Liam should have that championship trophy but the Germans couldn't allow it. Haven't watched a DTM race since, completely ruined the sport.
Liam is a talent and he's got that dog in him which is what they need.
@@weon_absoluto Checo deserves disrespect, he was trying to crash into Kimi Raikkonen in the 2013 Monaco Grand Prix, tried to kill Esteban Ocon 2x at the 2017 Belgian Grand Prix, was banging wheels with Jenson Button at the 2013 Bahrain Grand Prix, stupidly crashed into Felipe Massa at the 2014 Canadian Grand Prix, stupidly crashed into Carlos Sainz at the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Checo deserves to be disrespected, his nationalism-driven fanbase (which you are definitely part of) are full of delusions and fairytales thinking he's the next Michael Schumacher, blindly supported this mid-level driver (referring to checo obv) and now that he's sacked, there is no need to parrot around him anymore.
Red Bull should've gotten Carlos Sainz as soon as he became an option
Ppl been crying about Perez not deserving the seat and the second he leaves the same ppl are all of a sudden Cheko supporters, yalls bias and blind hatred against Red Bull has blinded your judgment
Yuki was faster than Liam at nearly every race save one..... Everyone expected Nick DeVries to be faster, Yuki blew him away, Daniel Ricciardo comes back into Red Bull, Yuki effectively ends his career. Liam Lawson comes along and is consistently slower than Yuki.
dishonest, disrespect, injustice to yuki
deserved, Yuki shouldnt have even been in consideration for a Red Bull seat.
they shouldve gotten Sainz as soon as Ferrari sacked him
@harshith27-zy4ky Not at all.
@@coollastsamurai ok, Yuki was only in F1 because of Honda lobbying the higher-ups at Red Bull to get him a seat at AlphaTauri for 2021 instead of Kvyat or Albon.
instead its injustice for Kvyat and Albon for being passed over for this manufacturer merchant known as Tsunoda
@harshith27-zy4ky does not explain why Lawson deserves at all. He won only reverse grit sprints in F2 whereas Yuki won multilple in regular races with rookie of the year award. The fact suggest you are wrong. Lawson could not even beat honda paid driver. Marko even admits in the recent interview that Yuki is faster tha Lawson.
8:00 did he say Charles is one of the fastest “dry” guys ? Insinuating max is better in wet?
I get the support for Yuki, but Liam has only had 6 races versus Yuki's multiple seasons. Yuki is a inflammable and does not have Liams race craft and mental toughness. Any time things don't work for Yuki he explodes and not in a good way. Sounds like he has rubbed some in the team the wrong way.
Lawson has a bad attitude and explosive character too - we've already seen that.
@@Grammarlings-cf8yw I'm not sure of the bad attitude thing. In the heat of the moment racing, things happen. But how you communicate with the team is more important and Yuki has blown up a number of times... I'm yet to see that from Liam. But I'm sure they all have their moments
@@Grammarlings-cf8yw I wouldn't call getting your elbows out during a race a sign of an explosive character tbh.
I didn't hear Liam slag anyone off post race in interviews either, which would be a clear sign of a bad attitude.

Yuki is maturing slowly.
@@naga2015kk he isnt maturing
yuki is a honda driver why keep him on.
They should have chosen Yuki over Liam. Yuki has improved so much the last couple of years, and Liam is still crashing cars and costing teams money...
At this stage it doesn't matter who the second driver is. Max is number 1 and that will never change, no matter what team he is in
Ya it does, because the second driver still has to consistently score points as Checo has found out. Also act as a support against double teaming by teams like McLaren and previously Ferrari.
@Fiasco3 My point is, no matter the team mate Max will be the number 1 driver because he's the best. The WDC is way more important than the WCC. The monetary value means nothing anymore as there is a cost cap and wind tunnel time is worth more than the first garage in pit lane.
An office administrator discussing racing, riveting.
without Honda engine in 2026 it wouldn't make sense to keep Yuki in RedBull. It seems that RedBull is going in a bad direction; the team must be keeping its fingers crossed hoping that Verstappen will stay in their side of the garage
HRC will make a bigger statement in 2025, RB Liam is one of us and HRC Yuki is one of us.
The best BS ever said 😂😂😂
Not even him can believe the BS that is coming out of his mouth 🤣🤣🤣
Don’t give us that excuse 😂😂
“We needed someone else likable in the company”
Lawson was no better than Ricciardo. Infact he was worse.
Daniel out qualified Tsunoda 6 time to Lawson's 1. Granted Daniel had more races.
Qualify Stats Ricciardo 6, Lawson 1, Tsunoda 17.
I'm thinkig Yuki will goto to Astin Martin 2026, and that's why Redbull didn't move him up. I think he would be a better No 2 than Lawson.
Only time will tell.
Funny man
It's short sighted to look at results on on paper. If you actually watch the racing you'll see Lawson's race IQ and race craft are world class. If you watched Lawson in the other categories he's been in you'd see he can actually race and is clearly the right man for the job
Ricciardo, more like Ricciardone
Because Yuki would have the whole of Honda backing him and Lawson will lie down easy
People looking at statistics and only seeing skin colour are so short sighted. You cannot simply look at results on on paper and make a correlation between two white people..
If you actually watch the racing you'll see Lawson's race IQ and race craft are world class. If you watched Lawson in the other categories he's been in you'd see he can actually wheel a car and is clearly the right man for the job.
Watch the DTM GT3 series from 2021 or his or Super Formula season. Hes been winning races all around the world. Even how he has been making it difficult for Alonso and Perez already was epic to watch.
people seem to hate Liam, he seems like a decent guy and is actually competent (unlike mid-level cash cow known as Perez) and (manufacturer merchant Tsunoda)
Results on the track are only part of it. Yuki won in track but failed miserably behind the scenes.
Now more than ever I really hope Yuki performs even better n hopefully in 2026 he will find a more toxic free team
They picked Liam because they want no threat to Max, just like they picked every other team mate. If Max had a in team threat the crying would be hilarious
"He's come to his own conclusion...he's decided to step away from F1" - This guy is a weapon. It was your decision not his, no need to lie about it?! Perez underperformed and you got rid, simple as.
Checo 285 points gap to Max….over 5 million in damage costs….too many crashes…too many Q1 and Q2 eliminations!!
Checo NEEDED TO GET OUT OF THAT SEAT….. RB simply used the performance clauses in the contract… OFC THEY DID!! With all reason! He cost them the Constructors championship!
Checo and RBR clearly DECIDED BOTH TO GIVE THIS EXPLANATION. BLAME CHECO FOR IT THEN….
Of course, but that was Horner being respectfull to Perez. Would you rather have him throw Perez to the lions? And furthermore, as Horner said: Perez also did good things and was quite popular. It's just that he did not do the good things often enough...
Halfway season Yuki will get his chance.
Wait? Cadilac won't be an engine supplier? Or will it happen later down the road?
Cadillac will use ferrari engines from 2026 and will build their own in 2028
Again Nate, congrats on this interview! Good insights provided
Kiwis do fly, go Liam.
No one talking about Yuki being hard to deal with
Yep. Gasly and his attitude behind the scenes is the reason Yuki didn't get the seat. They don't want that again.
Yuki is going to experience so many 'race incidents' with Lawson next season... 'he didn't give me room, and we touched and he was out of the race, oops... sorry...'.
I hope you're wrong don't want to see another season where a redbull is fighting a vcarb
Just someone Max can beat easily , no point looking any deeper than that.
I think Yuki will look back on this and not feel so bad about it. And who knows, if Liam can't figure out how to drive Max' car? Yuki might get a shot.
Honda is out by the end of 2025, if Lawson gets replaced mid-season, they'd promote Hadjar instead of the manufacturer merchant known as Yuki Tsunoda
Bad CHOICE!
Liam will have the same car that Max drives but Max will get the most out of it. Liam will look at himself to find ways to improve while Yuki would probably feel demoralized that he can't match Max. So, Liam has the best possibility of keeping his enthusiasm up while he learns how to drive the RBR.

Sorry ESPN the dislike is for Christian Horner😡🤬
Horndog is a complete idiot for not hiring Tsunoda.
U need to explain ,why RB never got a good 2nd driver . U have to work on 2nd driver . Checo had filled that gap and was successful with the resources and support he recieved .
Checo worked miracles the first 2 seasons. Being second in the championship how is that a bad second driver?
@vakantieman3270 rightly said . Checo was the only successful 2nd driver for RB
And as Horner has noted, Lawson had quicker race pace than Tsunoda.

i thought like ok liam has only a few races, perez was sent away because he didnt deliver. the car was difficult. Liam is a young raw talent but he needs to solidify himself. i think throwing him in that environment is a mistake. he will surely be judged over perez, not necessarily by red bull but by the media, they will be like Look he is also not delivering and that stuff. also if it doesnt work out they destroyed a young drivers career before it even began. its different than with max back then because at the time red bull wasnt a championship contender and the car was different. either liam lawson is a true superman or he will miserably crumble and they will finally bring in yuki, whether yuki does better, that i dont know but he has more experience and its about time he shows what hes got or otherwise he doesnt deserve to be there anyways
