We did a blind tasting at my pub between the Macallan 12, Glenfarclas 12, Aberloour 12 and GlenDronach 12 with a panel of 21. The GlenDronach and Glenfarclas were neck and neck, the Aberlour was not too far behind... and The Macallan was a good deal behind. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

@@bendakstarkiller1270 Seconded. The 18 is pretty good but the price is ridiculous. I'd rather buy Hennessy XO if I'm going to drop that much on a bottle. The GlenDronach 12 has a lot of character that lends to exploring the scotch. Macallan 12 is pretty one note and thin with a weird medicinal finish. I'd rather drink a Sheildag 18 which is the same price.

The Grandeur retails for around $700. Also, the Glendronach website says they re-opened in 2002 (spring). Since the SWA rules require a full year for age statements,
any 18's with a discharge date before spring 2020 will have the added age. So the current 18's ($145 - Oregon) in my area have a 2019 discharge date which means at least 23 yr old whisky. Cheers!

I just revisited the Macallan 12 and was disappointed. It tasted young, sharp and was a little hot, so the Glendronach 12 is much better IMO. I've bought 5 bottles of the old GD 15 for $80 and its great. I just had 2 pours of the new GD 15 and I was surprised how good it was, especially the 2nd glass. Its $63 at Total Wine. I've had a bottle of the GD 18 that was a 2015 version so 20 years and it was great. Its $160 at Total Wine. I've also had a bottle of the GD 21 for about $200 and was disappointed. It was actually to spicy/hot not what I was expecting. Great review on the GD.

I'm on my 3rd bottle of the GlenDronach 12. Still one of my favorite 12ys. Had the pleasure of tasting both the 15 and the 18 today (both bottled unchillfiltered before 2021).
The 15 is a treat... Even if you just had the 12, you can definitely tell it's the glendronach character, just much more intense. Moving up to the 18 we go even darker and intensity is cranked up to 11. I loved the 15 but the 18 may have been the best whisky I've ever tasted so far. Amazing.

Glendronach is my #1 so it's obvious where I stand, LOL. I'd go with Glendronach for the 15, 18, 21 but I'd take the Mac 12. The Macs prices goes way up after the 12 so I'd skip those because of cost vs. value and grab the Classic Cut or Edition Series. Cheers

I've got several bottles each of the Glendronach 12, 15, 18 and 21 and a single cask bottling of their 28 year Sherry Puncheon bottled at 52.5% ABV. I love me some Glendronach! Maybe it's just their newer stuff but I think the 15 year is a good step up from the 12 but the 18 and 21 are just on another level. 15 is fantastic for the price and what you get.

Nice review Jeremy! I ve done the 15 (older 2014) vs 18, vs 21 blind many times and have always picked the 15 as the winner. So I'd probably say for me older 15>21>18>12. The new 15yr is more like the newer 12yr bottlings. It's lighter in sherry flavor. It's brighter and I get a lot more vanilla on it. It's almost got a 15yr Mac F.O. flavor going on. It's good but different for sure. Yes the Allardice is still being bottled. There is a confirmed 2019/04/08 bottle code . So if the distillery closed on 2-26-96. then it would make that 18yr at least 23yrs 1mo and 16 days old lol. The 18yr is by far the best value imo right now. Plus it's still 100% oloroso casks and cheap! I also ordered a couple 2018 Parliaments and they are indeed a few shades lighter as mentioned in MR's comment. I have not opened them yet so can't speak to the quality or flavor profile. I haven't done the Mac 12 vs Glendro 12 side by side but it would be a fun one to do. Cheers!

As a bourbon fan, I keep very few bottles of Scotch on my shelf. Glendronach is one of my few go-to Scotch brands (mainly due to their natural color commitment, and the fact that I'm a Brown Foreman shareholder:). I've tried their 12, 15, 18 and 21 year offerings, and the 15-Year is the best, in terms of taste and value - in my opinion).

Picked up a 15 yr old revival while in Edinburgh for my honeymoon. Brought it back to Ontario. Was really excited and had been looking for it for a handful of years after ralfys review. This is a great whisky. However, I didn't realize how old the whisky was in the older bottles. This one is nice but very, very spicy. Not what I expected. Definitely 15 yrs and not a day older. Tastes more like a 10 yr old at 46%. After revisiting it a handful of times now it has cooled off a bit. Still happy I got my hands on a bottle finally. Cheers.

Macallan is overrated. 43% chill filtered doesn't impress me. Have you tried Springbank 15? I tried it at the same time as the Allardice 18 and favoured the Springbank. I also recommend GlenAllachie 12 if you can find it.

@@SippersSocialClub In Alberta? Yup.... I traveled far and wide, went to every mom & pop shop in Edmonton and area. Looked at everything online. One store in Jasper was the only place I've ever seen a bottle of the 18. Happy with my 2018 version though (Probably the oldest it will get). Earlier in the year some stores had the empty spots on the shelves for where it used to be, but that was as close as I found to one in the central area.
I have a question though. I'm not as much a fan of the Glengoyne 18. I found that their stuff has a distinct "Sourness" to the Sherry flavor. I'm told that Oloroso is often slightly sour where as PX is just sweet. I like the Glendronach 18's more dry flavor too it and mine definitely lacks the sourness of the Glengoynes.
Is there anything you would recommend or suggest I stay away from if I'm not looking for that slight sourness of the Glengoyne? It's interesting because both Glengoyne and Glendronach 18 are pure Oloroso, I just found the latter had less bite to it. Maybe I'm tasting something else from the barrel with the Glengoynes?

They might as well have put 2000 yr juice in the 18 because here in Ontario we aren't getting any, there is a photo of the bottle on the LCBO site however 0 in stock for all of Ontario ( typical). SAQ in Quebec get's a few in occasionally however they sell out immediately, There are also none in Calgary at the online stores. I luckily managed 2 bottles of the 21 earlier this year from SAQ for $202 all in ( great price ) and they are now gone from there also. Incidentally if you paid 100 GBP for the Parliament 21 then that was about the same as you paid for the Allardice ($175 Canadian ) which you bumped up 1.5 points for value so shouldn't you have done even better for the Parliament on value? Good question. It would depend on the year / cask for the Kavalan as they are all slightly different. The S06 Sherries are very very good, i'd score them higher (90 or 91). The S10 sherries however I do not like as much and would probably score in the 85 range.

The old 15 is def the best in the range and used to be my daily sipper. Unfortunately I did not stock up and the new one is no where close to that quality. They def used their best casks for that expression and it was sort of a secret for some years until everyone else caught on.
I know they are going up in age but not sure about quality. I recently ordered a 21 that was bottled in 2019 and it has the same color as the 12 you have there. Very strange because the 21 is known for the super dark, rich sherry notes. Haven't tried it yet though to know the quality diff.

Hi! Jeremy. I think you have added too much weight to the value score, making a good spirit underrated. My suggestion is: you can score the spirit on its own taste, and list the price you paid for the spirit. So that people in the other places who have a different price for the spirit can judge it by themselves. After all, thanks for the parallel comparison.
