Interested to know what product you would have used. You said correctly that hardwall technically shouldn't be used over paint or SBR, only on bare brick/block. But you didn't really come back to it. I guess technically it should have been grind the paint off and hardwall it or SBR it then bonding. But sounds like you agreed with this lad's method of just using hardwall and SBR for an easy life

I get what you’re saying and I used to do this too but I’m pointing out mis information . Adding up the time I believe it was skimmed the next day, he also says British Gypsum recommend skimming after 3-4 hours so I checked on the white book and it’s actually 48 hours.

the waves in A MECHANICAL KEY are because a crack won't follow the waves chemical key is when something sticks chemically with out keying
Iv seen loads of cracks in render that’s been comb scratched , cracks happen for loads of reasons

You've made yourself look like a right clown regarding keys. A mechanical key is a scratch. Blaine (plastering for beginners) was right.
For the hard of thinking like you I’ll explain, mechanical key is manufactured, physical Key is put on physically. 🥸

Chemical key is using a chemical.
