I was impressed that at different times you could hear the individual voices and they were distinctly different, yet when they where doing what you are calling chords their voices were no longer really distinguishable. Being able to do both of those things just brings the music to life for me. BTW - I love Sarah's attitude of making it fun. Lets face it, teaching kids today is really hard. Teaching "non-essential" subjects like music can't be easy. If she can get them to learn to appreciate music and have fun doing it she will be giving them great memories that will last the rest of their lives.

This is so beautiful. Their voices are like beams of light shining through a stained-glass window.

With Rheinstimmen we regularly sing Rheinberger‘s „Abendlied“, it‘s magnificent but calm at the same time. His Mass in E flat is still on my „wishlist“ 😌

Thank you, Richard! I love Rheinberger! Jeff, you did his first organ concerto for me last year. I’m so glad to see his name come up again on your channel:)

Rheinberger is my favorite! His abendlied is my favorite and his organ concertos! I really like his 3rd I think, the con motto 3rd movement I heard live between the organ pipes and the orchestra, and it was glorious.

This piece is a double choir piece. So each 'choir' has a soprano, altogether, tenor, bass. So you see how they are split up 4 on one side and 4 on the other. So generally, Andrea will be higher than the other soprano, but not always and depending on where they are in the fugue.

Great video Jeff! I enjoyed hearing Sarah’s take too. Does she teach in the public schools there? Your comment on all kids being starters is what I tell my band kids all of the time.

Yes! She teaches at a public high school out by me. She’s also the piano teacher.

I confess! Another member mentioned the beauty of Rheinberger's works as performed by Voces 8. I finally clicked on this piece and loved it. Josef Rheinberger was born in 1839 and died in 1901. He lived most of his life in Bavaria. His professional life started at age 7 as the organist in a parish church. He is known mostly as a writer of instrumental music, but has several well known vocal pieces. I would classify his work as late romantic. I can't be sure without seeing the manuscript. but the piece strikes me as a piece for double chorus. If you watch and listen to it with that in mind, you can see and hear to 2 choruses responding to each other. The video also is a good one to date the recording from the personnel. Can you deduce what year it was done?

Josef Rheinberger's most familiar work is perhaps his "Polka and Fugue from 'Schwanda the Bagpiper.'" Haven't heard it much recently, but it was a popular piece when I was growing up. I'd like to hear the rest of this Mass.

Jeff, I'm curious. Why does the banner on RUclips and in your website list this video as BAND SONG?
