Pathfinding in OSRS applied to ToB

- EDIT: as of 5/2/2019 bloat and verzik have been updated to experience less animation offset. (as they do their animations, they will continue to slide in order to represent their technical location whereas previously they would stay still, which caused animation offset)
This is a simple information video aimed to new PVMers who are looking to improve their understanding of pathing in OSRS. Applies to raiding, skilling, pking, pretty much anything.
Big thanks to de0 for helping me clarify a few things,

IMPORTANT: North and South priority (3:20 in the video)
I forgot to explain the mechanic as I only showed a crafting guild example. || Priority of direction: West > East > South > North
When your character has to choose between 2 paths of equal distance, it will prioritize the path that approaches the NPC/Object/Tile from the North or South (rather than the East or West).
This video should be deeply studied by players
Super well explained guide and applicable to so many thing in rs, should be shown to anyone trying to learn how to pvm or skill efficiently.
Thanks!! Means a lot :)
I am super late to the party here, but I wanted to thank you for this. It's the best pathfinding guide I've seen. I just started playing the game about a year ago, and never knew about 95% of this. It explains so much about what I perceived as inconsistencies in the game. I really wish there was an official tutorial or practice mode for stuff like this
I know this is late but I want to say how insanely awesome your guides are when it comes to explaining since any person regardless of skill will (or should be able to) understand your guides.
The video title ought to be something more generic like "OSRS: Explaining Game Ticks" or something along those lines because for someone like me that doesn't do ToB but didn't understand the in-depth mechanics of OSRS, I wouldn't have clicked on this video. Someone else linked me to this video which is how I came across it. That's also probably why it doesn't have as many views as it ought to have.
Hey man I really appreciate the comment. I agree with you, and coming up with a title isn't easy. I try to make the thumbnail convey the main objective of the video and sometimes use the thumbnail real estate as an alternative title.
Really happy you like my style of guides :)
Great music choices and hope you come back. I hear from all my favorite PVM content creators you’re the best & most knowledgeable thus I hope we get more from your intellect.
this is quite possibly the most informative video i have watched for osrs. And i watch a lot of osrs content. Huge props for this one. Saved and will watch again till i learn it completely.
That's such an amazing thing to read all this time later. I wish you all the joy and fun experiences on your pvm journey!
Brilliant guide, would recommend this to all osrs players
Your videos changed my life forever. Ty PurpleGod.
You're awesome you know that?
@@PurpleGod Your videos literally made my PVMing experience 100x better than I could've in my 15 years of playing the game! Best mechanical guides on youtube!
@@TheBallerman99 thanks man I'm only passing on the info that was given to me by amazing pvmers
Fantastic job covering many of the OSRS pathing mechanics! This is a great guide for anyone who is actively trying to get better at the game, especially for PVM.
What an amazing guide, this deserves way more views!
Thanks dude!
This guide is GOATed.
Very nice and in-depth guide. Dont think u missed anything. Good job
Thank you very much!!
Wiping to Corrupted Hunllef 100 times taught me all of this unfortunately. Especially the L shape running
Such a great guide, really helped me understand the tick system better
This is the guide I’ve been looking for, thank you!
I'm glad I could help :D
Thx for sharing your knowledge, it helped me and some friends!
my pleasure :)
Terrific job man
this vid should be mandatory for osrs players, gj!
This guide is amazing

Very great guide! Keep it up man!
Skookum vid!
Duuude I watched ALL The video for verzik P2 with scythe hehehe good Job though, Nice video
Thanks man :D are you doing 2 step method?
Im trying to do Just like you did at 12:19, but I keep getting kicked by her
this is a great guide
amazing guide 8/8
Great video man. Definitely subbing!
Im new to this and this is amazing tysm.
As others have said, great guides bro! Btw do you mind sharing how did you find out all this technical details about the game? Are you a programmer or in game developing field? Or learned it from someone who is?
I was surrounded by high level PVMers that I could ask questions, discover and learn with. I also had a mentor who is in my opinion one of the best speedrunners and technical guys on osrs. his name is de0 (sub2purple) or wizardvief on youtube. He is the programmer wiz that you're alluding to :) helps that I'm into creating videos and problem solving (engineering background). Thanks for the kind words man!!
amazing guide.
WTH for as long as I play rs I always thought that was a server lag.. thanx man..
haha that does happen more often than we'd like
10/10
thanks alot.
Amazing c:
thanks m8

Hey purple, I have a question about pathing that wasn’t covered in this vid. In chambers at mystics, what’s the reason for your character wanting to run all the way around the maze instead of going directly into attack range? Great vid tho
Great question! I covered this in npc mechanics. Essentially, your character is out of range when this happens. In order to get in range, it tries to find the most optimal melee path towards the npc until it is in range.
Because the melee path is around the rocks instead of through them, your character tends to move around the maze
PurpleGod thanks for the responsiveness! I’ll check out the NPC mechanics vid👍
Wait... why did you guys leave the purple nylo alive at Verzik? Shouldn't you kill it with poison asap?
i think that was a learners run and we wanted the phase to last longer for practice, not sure. it was ages ago
You could have included monster movement since that applies very much to Verzik when tanking.
Kinda touched on it and included an example at 11:30 ish
But if you're referring to how NPCs are heavy on the south west tile, yeah I missed it. Charles goes over it in his inferno guide
At 12:10 you mention that he gets prioritized to the south tile, but you don't explain why.
How does it work when he attacks your web? Because he's not going to your tile, so how does the game decide which tile he should be taken to in order to melee your web?
I explain this in another part of the video and also in the pinned comment
Its because he’s the same distance from the west side of the web and south side of it, so the game will always place him south (or north) before west (or east)
Im 99% sure they patched vorkath so when you run over an acid spot you still get hit, like xarpus' poison pools
Ohh ok good to know I didn't do vork for a while. Ty!
I think I got a bug bite. I think it was a tick
This is no joke, you can kill red spiders more efficiently now
So runescape plays at 100bpm? All rs players should be certified in cpr
this exactly!!!!!!!!!!
@@PurpleGod i didn't expect a reply on this video but man, you killed it with this explanation. I havent played RS seriously since like 2007 and this closed the gap for me in a huge way. Thank you!
@@dangehret1349 means a lot man, glad it helped. Lots of people are getting back into it, and with so many people stuck at home I think it's a great time to be on! goodluck my dude
Can I use this guide for slaying green dragons?
You can use this guide for efficient banana picking
Great guide but how did you manage to fuck up a word so badly at 4:57
Thanks man, from what I heard I think it's a clipping mistake. (If we're talking about the same thing)
@@PurpleGod DISCTASNCE! :D
@@Tsume1995 @TheIvyX
OHHHH I never saw that typo haha
Do ToB guys really not know shit like this lmao
Well I didn't say that but hey, there could be some things people don't know
