  • Quick Review of the Fishpond Thunderhead Lumbar Pack.
    I LOVE this pack. Since the last review Fishpond has changed the zipper and added a separate internal divider. Nice. Does anyone actually read the descriptions? If so please leave "Nicolas Cage" in the comment section.

    Nicolas Cage also prefers a waist pack. Thanks for the review.

    Still loving my OG version, won’t question replacing it with a newer model when the time comes. I dig those insert pouches. Their relatively inexpensive and help keep all kinds of gear organized. Great review.

      The zipper alone is worth the switch. Very happy with this pack.

    I like this lumbar pack! I was trying to decide between it and the simms lumbar version but i compared them side by side and the simms is way thinner waterproof material and that seems sketchy to me. Fishponds is bomb proof! I almost went with the simms freestone sling but its not waterproof and not as comfortable as a lumbar. Lastly i own the older waterproof version of the Orvis large backpack ($300 retail) and the zipper lock at the end of the zipper no longer works. That kinda worried me because fish pond uses a similar zipper lock. But fishpond removed the teeth inside their flex seal zipper. I think that's what did in my orvis pack?.. I'm probably gonna go with this thunderhead?.. Thanks for the review! Love that insert too! Fish on!!

    i've been rockin' the gen1 thunderhead lumbar for almost 2yrs now. is the new zipper alittle easier to close? the gen 1 zipper definitely requires 2 hand operation. and that last bit of closure required alittle extra effort.

      Such a great pack. The newer zipper if less effort to snug up, you can do it one handed.

    I have this, but I find carrying a net with this to be pretty annoying. Any tips on how to use this with a net? My problem is that if you use the net holder that's built in, it totally blocks access to the bag.

    • @AboutTrout
      @AboutTrout  Год назад +1

      I just stash the net between my back and the pack at an angle.

    • @patches152
      @patches152 Год назад +1

      Will, what net do you have? If it's a short handled net, I hang it off the loops on the face of the pack at two points: retractor and magnetic, so it's balanced and tucked out of the way.
      Alternatively, old dominion trout bum just did a video about how he attaches his net to the side of the hip pack by the waist strap.
      Neither of these help for long handled nets.

      @@patches152 I have the Fishpond Nomad - so not overly long. I'll give your idea and the Old Dominion Trout Bum idea a shot. Thx

      @@willdevi1658fly fish food also did a video about how to attach a net, and cheech's hip pack method is what i did for a long time. i moved it to the side a la ODTB to keep it from snagging while bushwhacking. both options work well on the lumbar style pack
