    Somehow, the pure piano rendition adds a somewhat melancholic feel to the piece. Very nice to listen to while looking for something calming late at night.

      JerichoDeath I'm glad that came through - the Psiioniic's story is rather tragic, and Jade and Bec (who First Turn Fold originally wrote the piece about) are not allowed to remain so cheerful as they are in the early acts. Thanks for listening!

    Stumbling upon this nearly two years after the fact is like finding the keys to a brand-new car with a metal detector on the beach. It's like plundering a ruin and finding an ancient treasure. Like looking in your fridge and remembering you've still got that leftover pizza that you thought you'd eaten all of.
    What I'm trying to say here is that I really enjoy this. Wish I could've been there when this was released, so I could hype with the others. Excellent work.

    Regina (RUclips won't let me reply directly to your comment) - No, this is at real speed. It has some rather fast parts (and probably some parts I played faster than I should have), but this is how quickly I played it. The only alterations were that I added reverb (because the room didn't have much of it) and tried to improve the color balance of the video (which doesn't affect sound or speed).

    ...Wow.
    Usually, piano covers of songs like this lose something because you're trying to do something that has many different types of instruments with only a piano.
    But with this one, I forgot I was even listening to a cover in some parts of the song.
    Granted, there definitely was a small section or two that didn't sound quite right, but those are easy to forget about.
    Very nicely done.

    • @dothemusicything8541
      @dothemusicything8541  9 лет назад +15

      ***** Thank you! Thats what I'm going for these - conveying the effect of the original piece. And sometimes doing that requires a slightly less literal arrangement in favor of something taking advantage of the sonority of the piano.

  • @haveachocobar
    @haveachocobar 2 года назад +24

    coming back to this after so many years is something i just cant describe. partly a time capsule but also just a freaking insane composition. i may forget sometimes, but homestuck music (and by extension, your arrangements) will always stick with me. wherever you are now, you have immense skill and talent and i hope you can put that to use.

    This sounds so beautiful, it aids in helping me fall asleep yet it jerks my heart cause I know homestuck is over. But I know there are still fans of it and it will last for a long time, especially with the possibility of hiveswap.

    • @dothemusicything8541
      @dothemusicything8541  8 лет назад +11

      There will be fans for a very long time - while posts about it will gradually become sparser (until the possible epilogue, Hiveswap, etc.) I do think it will be increasingly seen as being historically important.

    This is so beautiful. I've always loved Gold Pilot, but I never really appreciated its beauty until now. The composer did an amazing job of adapting the glitching from Caliborn's stardust spill. Thank you for including the sheet music. I can't wait to learn this!

    Even when i ignored a few notes and focused on the most important ones, this song is still incredibly tricky to play and I haven't been able to play it through cleanly! Or like. At all. I only know the first, say, minute or two? After that I sorta gave up, I don't have a whole lot of patience.
    That said, this is amazing! You can really nail those fast shifts, which is incredible.

    +DoTheMusicyThing This is amazing! This is so inspiring, I showed this to my grandpa (who is a pianist) and he showed me the basics of the piano. I've done percussion for 3 and a half years so I know all the notes and how to play it, but this is going to be my motivation to get better if I get my own piano. Thanks so much for making this, you are an amazingly talented person and a terrific musician :)

    This piece is absolutely beautiful, and the way you capture it in your arrangement is magnificent. I'm aspiring to be a composer when I get into college. I already arrange music to the best of my ability, but your music drives me to arrange songs of such a higher level. The notations you write in there along with the piece makes it so descriptive and beautiful, as if it already wasn't. And even your playing is beautiful. Bravo, sir.

    From the looks of it you are receiving a lot of well earned complements, and you deserve absolutely ever single one of them. This, what you are doing, displaying your talent for the people that sit at home and search for people like you to watch, is amazing. Whenever I listen to this, which is about everyday, I do in the morning and while I am doing work or something. It makes me feel calm, and patient. Makes me think of everything I have done, and what will I do. I am usually pessimistic, not much of an optimist, but this changes it all. My point, you are fantastic (so is your name) and I hope for you to get even more subscribers.

      Allison Lund The original is excellent - it's a bit tricky to fit into two hands on piano, but eventually I worked it out. Thanks for listening!

    God god. I'll be sure to learn this in due time, but I doubt I'll convey as much emotion as you do here. You're an amazing musician! I'll be sure to look up to you for inspiration.

    • @dothemusicything8541
      @dothemusicything8541  9 лет назад +1

      VintageLemomade Thank you - Honestly, a lot of what is perceived as emotion in performers is just them understanding (whether intellectually or instinctively) what's happening in the music. And then caring enough about the piece to bring that out. So study music theory and generally seek to understand what you're playing, and you will convey emotion.

      reberock1234 Thanks! I'll definitely do more in time. This semester will keep happening for the next two and a half months, and, while I'm hoping to work on making arrangements during that time, I don't expect to have a new video until late December. But I have ideas for the next few pieces I want to arrange, so more will be coming.

    Gold Pilot has become one of my favorite pieces in the Homestuck soundtrack/album(s). This song is beautifully played by you. I especially love the beginning. (I first got hooked on this song by only hearing the beginning.) I love the slower parts that encourage more detail as well. Wonderful job, I love it.

    • @dothemusicything8541
      @dothemusicything8541  9 лет назад

      Gabby Dunn Thank you - yes, the beginning of that piece is really good, and I'm glad it came off in the arrangement. Gold Pilot was great in A6A6I1 - I rather hope the rest of it will be used somewhere in the endgame animations.

    • @Gabrielle-wz2oq
      @Gabrielle-wz2oq 9 лет назад

      As do I! I was so disappointed with the glitches in the animation (though those are actually part of the song, which I figured out later) but it's part of the web-comic, and I can't do anything nearly as complicated and thoughtful, so who am I to complain? I've enjoyed everything so far, anyway. However, I do agree that it would be wonderful if it was fully used, at least before everything comes to an end.

    • @dothemusicything8541
      @dothemusicything8541  9 лет назад +1

      It was rather brilliant for Hussie to use a piece that already sounded like it was glitching a bit and then make the glitches more dramatic so it sounded like it glitched into not working entirely.

    • @Gabrielle-wz2oq
      @Gabrielle-wz2oq 9 лет назад +1

      Haha, yeah, that's exactly what I thought when I heard the glitches in Gold Pilot. Everyone says he's a lazy animator and writer but I think that's the furthest from the truth. It takes extensive planning to do what he's doing, especially since he has to make sure that even in it's complexity, the story still makes sense, at least as far as the concept goes.

    • @dothemusicything8541
      @dothemusicything8541  9 лет назад +1

      Yeah, he's definitely not lazy. His art style is efficient - if a panel just needs to convey information, he only takes time for that, without making it more elaborate. And when something needs to look awesome, he takes the time to make sure it does. Yes, comics like Dresden Codak and Stand Still, Stay Silent look much better than Homestuck in general, but that time spent on art means they don't average nearly the speed Hussie does, so they can't tell such a substantial story. I've never seen him called a lazy writer, and the fact that he's written over 800k words, including the best dialogue of any story, in less than seven years disproves that.

    I hope to be able to do stuff like this one day, you are amazing! One of my favorite tracks in Homestuck putting my favorite instrument to the test and it was awesome! Seriously, I know that this more or less a cliche, but more Homestucks need to know about you. Also, every song on your channel is one of my favorites, I'm not even joking whenever I saw the pages that they were on I loved them instantly and you made me love them more.
