Lawrence Claudy One More Light was made around late 2016-early 2017. It was written for a friend of the bands' who had cancer, then the made a tribute for Chris with the song. It is now a reminder of Chester's passing.

To this day I can't listen to this song without shedding a tear. Chester was such a remarkable person. Not just as a singer but as a person. His fans meant everything to him. Linkin Park helped me through a very dark place in my life with their music. Growing up I was physically abused by a man who was suppose to be a father to me. I was very suicidal but listening to Chester sing and the lyrics the band produced saves my life. R.I.P Chester, you will never be forgotten

Oh, I thought you knew going in. Chester is the man singing. He died from suicide in 2017 and the band made this video as a tribute to him. The song itself was written about a friend of theirs who died from cancer. Then Chester sang it as a tribute to his good friend, Chris Cornell, who also took his own life. Then the band honored Chester with the video for the song. When you know all of that, the video hits differently.
Listening to any of their songs hits different now, but especially the One More Light album. It's almost like the album was his way of saying goodbye. R.i.p Chester, you'll always be my favorite singer.

I'll never forget him. EVER. the day of his death, I was devastated and crushed because my wife and I were gonna see OUR first concert together in August (my birthday plus wedding anniversary). Our niece was born later that day. So life/death that day. Crazy. RIP to the legend. My wife and I got a tattoo together of the band symbol.

The song in itself is one thing, it’s beautiful and painfull and I cry everytime. But this time what made me cry was the comments, realizing that while we sat alone in our rooms thinking Chester was the only one who could understand our pain, we were thousands who felt the same way. I wish I «knew» that when I was younger. I’m so thankful for Chester though, he helped shape so many of us into the strong adults we are today. And of course Mike, just a beautiful person as well.

Linkin Park recorded this song in memory of Chris Cornell of Soundgarden fame who took his own life. Chris Cornell was a close personal friend of Chester Bennington the lead singer of Linkin Park. Later this song became the memorial for Chester Bennington who took his own life on the anniversary of Chris Cornell's birthday. Their lives mirrored each other's as they both suffered from abuse and depression which manifested in their music and live performances. Probably one of the most beautiful songs of loss, and it can be applied to anyone who is loved and missed. In such few words they capture the hearfelt loss of losing someone, the little reminders, the sadness, the anger. What does it matter? It matters to me! Linkin Park got me through some sh!t in the early 2000’s. Chester and I are the same age and I can’t forget where I was when i heard of Chester’s passing. My wife sent me a text saying Chester had committed suicide. I didn’t believe her and replied “you’re tripping”, then Mike Shinoda confirmed the news. There will never be another voice like Chester and I’m so proud that my daughter has discovered Linkin Park and Chester’s voice. Linkin Park is one of her favorite bands and through Chester’s death I’ve seen the positive / silver lining which took me a while to find. His voice and memory will live on through us, the fans. The fans that understand how impossible it is to pass Chester’s legacy on to our children, but understand how important it is to try. RIP Chester, so many of your fans identify with the pain that drove you to the action that took you from us. For my own selfish reasons i wish you would not have left us, but at the same time i completely understand. Still to this day i can’t watch “one more light” without breaking down. Its such a heart wrenching song. Chester Bennington was the main lead vocalist for the Band Linkin Park. He was the one singing the song. It was originally meant as a tribute to the memory of singer Chris Cornell who passed away due to suicide by hanging. Chris Cornell and his family were very close to Chester's family since they performed many times together. 2 Months after this, exactly on Chris Cornel's birthday July 20th, Chester Bennington unfortunately also took his life by hanging as well.

He committed suicide by hanging following an alcoholic relapse, multiple intense depressive episodes and his friend Chris Cornell dying the same way last year. This song always crushes me. For a person who has struggled with depression since I was a kid. Self-harm, self-hate was a normal thing. I still struggle but I am able to manage it. Unfortunately, now I see my oldest struggle with this. I played this song for her when she was struggling one night. She cried. I cried. I told her she was my light and the most Important lights in my life. She is such an amazing light. She is better. But when she gets down now, she plays this song and it helps her.
Growing up I lost a few friends to suicide. I almost lost my husband to suicide ( thankfully he got help). It's also those who seem the happiest, are the ones struggling the most. So for those who read this know you have someone cares. You are loved. You are special. You are someone's light.

I get emotional everytime I hear this song. Death isn't fair and it's something that will happen to all of us, that's why it's important to reach out to people, check in to see if they're ok, and to tell the people in your life how much they mean to you because it might be the last time that you do.
My best friend I grew up with took his life the same way as them. It was 2002. That specific blame that Chester put on himself is too common for some of us. But ALL of us do it in more subtle ways. From us directly going away quickly all the way down to not showing up to a birthday party we promised a friend that we would. We are brilliant in our beautiful and loving ways but often brilliant in our self-condemnation. It’s real knee jerk reaction. And out of not being able to learn about these reactions towards ourselves, we act in ways that often being far more tragic ways. It spreads in such a pervasive way. Self-knowledge would eliminate the causes and on the way of our journey we will trip up a ton but little by slowly learn to be kinder and just OK with ourself, warts and all.
My best friend removing himself permanently was not his fault but more people are not happier from it. And it’s many years later and I still miss him more than I can express. I have learned one thing over these years: I need not eliminate my grief or memories of him and I. Just form a new way I relate to him. He is my brother and dear friend. Always in some way he is never absent. The artist Ren Gil has said in one of his songs, that “And when I am gone, I will rise, in the music that I left behind.”

It's a somber song, but a beautiful one.
