I bought two of these rifles, mags and several boxes of ammo for less than the price of 1 AR. I'm a 20 year Army vet. and I like these little guys way better than the M16 I carried!

Great video! The M1 Carbine is an outstanding, but sadly overlooked little gem. Agree 100% that it is a viable choice for SHTF prepping. The 30 Carbine round is actually very close in ballistics to the 300 AAC Blackout. From a reIoading SHTF perspective, I prefer the straight-walled 30 Carbine case to the bottleneck 300 AAC Blackout case, because straight-walled cases can last forever and are so much easier to reload than bottleneck cases!

The 30 M1 carbine is an almost perfect SHTF weapon to have and to use. Light weight, accurate, high rate of fire power, easy to maintain, ammo is light weight as well and it is a proven weapon in combat. If ever the SHTF the 30 M1 carbine will be the one I grab for my home defense. Great weapon.

If we're talking "SHTF," where do you get more .30 carbine ammunition? Magazines? Lubricant?
Are you relying on a battery powered optic? Or were you clever enough to go for a simple non-powered recital?
How do you hydrate? What do you carry?...........naw, in such a scenario? The vast majority of us are 💀💀💀

    • @rangerup1804
      @rangerup1804 3 месяца назад +1

@@anderseckstrand7033 I have over 1 thousand rounds of .30 carbine plus I reload for it as well. Magazines? Must have 25 of them already. Lubricant? Use motor oil if you don't have pricy gun oil. Optics? It comes with iron sites out to 300 yards, good enough. Hydrate, same way you hydrate and everyone else in the world does. Remember, this was an answer of what you would use to defend your home with. Not out there trying to act all "commando" and getting my ass shot off. Only a fool would do that.

Nice stories of your family, and I agree, it was the ammo of the time that was the issue. Jim Cirillo of the NYPD Stakeout Squad said that nothing could beat his M1 Carbine against the bad guys.

I love my Underwood carbine! Light, handy, has both 15 and 30 round magazines, easy to reload cartridges, almost no recoil. Very reliable, after i replaced the ejector (tough job with those wee parts!). Love my Garand, also, but it is not quite so easy to tote around the woods. Better range, for sure - but two different rifles for two different tasks. The carbine is definitely a great home defense weapon, and a good bug-out addition. Thanks for the video.

I have an IBM Carbine. It too is my wife's home defense gun. Now I'm training my daughters to use it as well... My Dad used to carry an M2 back in the 50s. When I first bought my Carbine 20 years ago, I couldn't quite figure out how to tear it down to clean, but Dad took it apart in nothing flat! Great, Great rifle! Great video too! Thanks for posting it. I think there is too much hype about ARs and people forget about the classics...

During WW2, the British realized quickly that the Lee-Enfield Rifle was too big, heavy and expensive for support troops in battle, and that the Webley revolver was too short range for anything other than close up self-defence, interestingly the British Military's response was to insist that the Sten SMG had a selective fire feature, unlike the US M3, the German MP40 and the Russian PPSH SMG's.
The 9mm bullet of the Sten was easily accurate and effective up to 100 yards (though as always the main advantage of the Sten gun was that it was the cheapest and simplest SMG ever produced), nonetheless the average British soldier generally thought that the M1 Carbine was far superior - which it simply was.

This gun with that EXACT ammo is my personal home defense weapon of choice and it hangs out next to my bed :with me every night )
My carbine is auto ordinance and it is a beautiful and reliable gun, I chose this one over the AR. Unfortunately I live in commiefornia and I could see the writing on the wall for AR owners when I bought this back in2013. I wanted something that was light, compact, still reason powerful, fun to shoot, and good looking. It was different than the AR and because it’s wood and not the scary back color which we all know makes fins more deadly, it consistently gets everlooked by the people looking to restrict our rights. All my friends always bitch about their ARA limitations and I’m poppin mags in an out with no bullet button, or have to get my mag WELDED INTO MY GUN. A little foresight goes a long way!!

Great video! Love the M1 carbine. American Rifleman magazine has an article in the June issue about the Rock-Ola M1 carbine that James River Armory is manufacturing now. They machine new receivers and assemble with new barrels finishing with original GI mil spec parts. Fulton Armory is also manufacturing new ones like this as well. Both companies will fully restore original M1 carbines to new, replacing worn/broken parts as needed. So if you have one needing restoring or find one at a gun show in bad shape, it can be restored. They also restore Garands and 03's. Fulton Armory has top hand guards that allow mounting red dots/long eye relief scopes. I've seen one from James River and they are immaculate. Just like a brand new gun. I've seen some AR's from Fulton and they are exceptional. Both are a little pricey, but anything form these two great companies will be something you will be passing on to your grandchildren. Both companies have great customer service. I love AR's but the M1 carbine is a great handling light carbine.

This was actually a favorite low cost kids deer rifle back in the 60's. Effective inside 100 yards and low recoil, most shots in south LA when I was a kid were less than 50 yards. Could pick one up at the surplus store for less than $50.

The M1 carbine is my SHTF weapon. Very dependable, lightweight, available ammo, and with a folding stock, very compact. An M16 3-mag pouch holds 4 full 30 round and 1 15 M1 carb. mags. That's a lot of bangs in a small package. Mine is a reimport from Korea I got in the 80s for $160 and I wish I'd bought a dozen of them. From a bench rest I've put 5 shots in 2" at 100 yards with good Winchester ammo. The round has almost the ballistics of a .357 magnum. While that's low for a rifle, it's still very effective and reaches 250 yards. I've used it to teach a few women to shoot, it fits them well and doesn't have much kick. I'll be buried with mine. Fun note: mine has a Rock-Ola trigger group. I get a big kick out of having a gun with parts made by a juke box company!

My 1943 Inland surplus .30 Carbine is my choice for home defense. Great rifle and the most fun rifle I have ever shot. It is plenty powerful within its effective range or within its limits. It will make it to 300 yards but most effective to 200 yards. Loaded with soft points it is extremely effective hunting and defensively. Like any rifle for it to be truly effective it needs to hit vital areas so bullet placement is key and also using it within the limit of its range. Miss a vital or shoot beyond the limit of its range is asking for trouble no matter the rifle. I can recall when the .30 Carbine was the preferred truck/ranch rifle by many. A good all around little rifle for defense and hunting.

I love my M1 Carbine. It is my go-to house gun. When the dog starts barking at night, I grab the carbine. Most think it is underpowered and it is.BUT, I reload and I've taken deer with mine. Of course the deer were under 100 yards. The M1 carbine is light, reliable and just plain fun to shoot. Surplus ammo isn't cheap as it once was and to get the full benefit, reload. I use 110 grain soft nose.

Just wish the Mini-14 & ESPECIALLY the 30 were chrome lined and I'd of already had 1 of each. Chrome lined D.I. AR's are my fav 5.56 rifle (Armalite/BCM are my favs), w/a NIB-X BCG & ALG ACT/Spikes NIB-X trigger group in it cleaning is a snap! Mini's are REALLY nice though, just pricey mags!

I'll add the ammo is reasonable and the mags are CHEAP compared to everything else. I used to get 30 rounders for $8 but now they are $15-20. They are still selling WWII stock, you can still get brand new ones! Parts are easy to find and cheap, too, although you're never likely to need any. If you can find a good deal on an M1, buy it! Even if it looks rough, it will still shoot for another 60 years. What more could you ask for in a SHTF rifle?

I use one for home defense and reload. It's a great gun and reloads for as cheap as 5.56. I would and do trust my life with this rifle. It's amazing. Mine shoots about 4 moa and delivers plenty of punch. 1 mag locked and loaded and 2 on the stock of 110 grain soft points. I love it because my 10 year old, 8 yr old and wide can all operate it. I only keep 500 rds for it at a time, mostly ball. I think a gun like this doesn't scream " assault weapon" but fits the bill great for urban home defense. Great choice , imho.

I had a choice between a really beat up winchester that was really bad or a great shape universal with tiger striping on the stock for the same price I chose the universal without researching anything about the m1 carbine. So when I got home I saw that universal sucks and jamomatic. then I saw a glimer of hope that early ones were made with usgi parts. So after checking design of certain parts and the serial number I have a early made. I took it out to shoot and it shoots great, has a bright bore and never jams and has a great looking stock with grain stripes that look awsome. I use it for home defense and I like it better than ar15 for not blowing my eardrum out and a lil less penetration. So its almost perfect.

No sir. The chambering has nothing to do with the definition of carbine, though sometimes carbines are chambered in pistol rounds.
You are also wrong about the 30 carbine being a handgun round. It was developed specifically for that carbine. There are handguns that are chambered for it though. I used to have a Ruger Blackhawk in 30 carbine, and AMT made a semi auto chambered for it

Their accuracy is ok, but the hype concerning the re-tooling was just that... hype. If you've watched any of my other vids, then you know that I like many different types and styles of firearms. It's a simply built easy to use and care for rifle. It's not a cannon of a rifle, nice and light, ANYONE can carry and use it, and they are a cheaper option than most of your AK and AR systems these days. Will take 15 and 30 round mags, and the best part is it's already combat proven and American made !

When I was a kid, it seemed like several other kids were using Carbines as well. Yes it is plenty powerful enough to cleanly take deer size game. I was fortunate enough to bag a few deer, and take some ferral hogs with it.
I've seen scope mounts that attach in the groove for the rear sight, but I've never used one. I like the Ultimak scout type mount used w/ a red dot. It replaces the top of the foregrip and has a picatiny rail. I'm not sure it will fit commercial made carbines though.

The later models had design changes like dual recoil springs and a cutout on the slide. They were no longer interchangeable with USGI parts. I think that Universal cut corners on these later models. I have heard that they are hit or miss. Some run fine, and others, like mine have reliability problems. It could be weak or unbalanced springs or mag well problems. There were reports that a few later Universals fired out of Battery and the company got a bad rep from those issues. The slides were prone to cracking near the cutout for the bolt lug. Whenever I shoot it, I always make sure the the bolt is fully locked forward. The stovepipes are the only issues I have had so far.

I read a article over a decade ago where a gunsmth was converting 30 cal carbines to 357mag. I thought that would be real cool, but I never followed through and got one. Bought a Ruger Deer Slayer in 44 mag instead.

I carried a M-2 carbine for two years in VietNam as a first Force Recon co Marine. It never failed me and I saw plenty of NVA take three or four hits by the M-14 also. At 72 my combat rifle in a M-1 Carbine. Carbine 110 gr 1,900 fps AR-15 55gr 3,800fps We cut the weight in half and doubled the speed and to three hundred yards I''ll the the heaver bullet

I'd like to think that our nation would rise to the occasion, but I fear you are right. I remember my Mother telling me about how she went to work in the shipyard here in Norfolk to help build "Liberty" ships for the war effort. My Mother was not a construction worker by any estimation, but she felt compelled to do what she could for the good of the country. My Mom was "Rosie the riveter"!! It's sad to say, but I don't believe that many citizens today have that same conviction or perseverence

The M1 carbine is my wife's absolute favorite rifle. She can burn up ammo faster than I can load up the mags! lol I love to shoot it as well. Thanks

Yeah I read that a few guys had issues similar the first time. The joke is I had to borrow a screw driver because I forgot to bring one (didn't think I needed it.) but when I got home that shit stayed even after I held it upside down & shook it

Good video. I have an Underwood made in late '43 that someone sporterized before I bought. Really like it but am going to sell for an original. Got 30 round mags at gun show today for $15.
