Eyeshadow palette declutter time! Getting rid of half of my makeup palettes || Kelli Marissa Vlogs

Hi friends, today I am finally decluttering my eyeshadow palettes. I have over 100 from drugstore and high end brands, and some are in great condition, and some are in not so great condition. I decided to organize the palettes into 3 piles - keep, donate, and recycle. The "recycled" palettes will either go to friends or family, or for the moldy/unusable ones, they'll go into the trash since they are likely not eye safe anymore.
Here is the donation organization I found - they only accept barely used eyeshadow palettes, so all the good condition ones I won't keep will be mailed to them:

Give & Makeup (in the UK): unfortunately it looks like this org is no longer in service. I tried finding other options but it looks like most other places don't accept opened cosmetics. If you have any recommendations, leave them below!

Honestly I'm surprised at myself too haha! I think I had to be REALLY picky to convince myself to get rid of anything 😂😂 but I feel excited to really get creative with what I have left!
I always watch these and ask myself “why can’t I have a friend that gets all the makeup and just wants to give them away?” If anyone wants to get rid of their makeup I’m here. lol

Hey friends! If you have any recommendations for where I can donate my more used palettes (the ones that I can't donate to the orgs I mentioned, that I said I'll probably toss!) please let me know 😁 I'm going to offer them to friends and family first, and then possibly save them for nail polish making experiments in the meantime 😜
I haven't been able to find any organizations :( but another option is just selling them for free on facebook, but to me, that is a bit stressful. Or maybe doing a subscriber giveaway or something like that. I have actually been wondering how you donate your swatched nail polish bottles because I haven't been able to find any organizations that let you donate used nail polish
If there’s a buy nothing group in your area, you could give them away there! They’re usually organized on Facebook and people post things they want to give away to other people in the area. I’ve used them before and it’s always nice to know that old desk chair or teapot is going directly to someone who wants it.
Maybe check the local women’s shelter? I believe Temptalia does that with the palette she doesn’t keep?
High school drama groups or even city drama groups, especially ones that work on volunteer basis.

Congrats on the successful declutter and ooohhh that Viseart palette, very nice quality!! 😍❤ Now that they've released some of their larger palettes into smaller ones (e.g. the Editorial Brights) I hope you'll give 'em a try one day. I ignored Viseart for the longest time, until I got my hands on the Violette Étendu at a huge discount. Literally has the best purple shadow formula I've ever tried. 💜
Taylor Wynn works closely with Project Beauty Share every year and it looks like a very well run organization.
That's great to hear actually! It looks like they're one of the very few national orgs that accept used products. I tried my best to sort out the highest quality/least used ones for them!

You could keep the magnetic case with your custom Colourpop colors and trade them out with other Colourpop colors from their other palettes where you're keeping them for just a few shades! All their palettes are magnetic and the shades just pop out with a magnet nail wand!

My favourite trick is to have little white circle stickers that I stick to make up and write in sharpie the month and year I first opened / used the product. That way you know how old everything is, otherwise I forget.
I definitely need a vlog or main video of you doing eye looks with every palette. Like, every day, pick an eye shadow palette you kept and do your make up with it.
I have thought about doing that so much! It's such a fun idea. I have no idea how to execute it though 😆

when you showed the NYX brights palette, I remembered that's the first video I saw of yours. I was just getting into makeup so when I bought that palette i wanted to see what eye looks to do and found you and tried recreating your looks. then I saw a nail art video and I said ok I love her I'm following.

Your sister in law may like that Viseart as well... Very nice shadows and higher end brand. You can also de-pot shades from that bulky Moondust palette and others into a magnetic palette to make your own singles mix.

Gotta love how Kelli thinks that 55 palettes aren't "many" left. I just rarely if ever wear eyeshadow so it is so far beyond my scope of experience to imagine owning that many. But great job on the de-cluttering and thank you for another vlog channel video so soon!

The urban jungle small palette by Maybelline looks beautiful wow 👀👀👀 I love the fit 💙💙💙💙 You did a very great job with this :)
You probably already know all of the small round Colourpop pans and the long 5 pans are magnetic & pop right out, so if you wanted to keep 1 or 2 colors but not the rest of a palette, you could pop them out, or swap out pressed glitters for singles.
The count to keep is 55 palettes, "I just realized now I don't have that many eyeshadow palettes" LOL

I know what you mean about keeping palettes that are just too gorgeous to get rid of. I have a bh cosmetics galaxy chic palette that just doesn't work well for me, but I love staring at it 😂
I've got the bh aurora lights that I used once but its SO pretty to look at. I realize that its hard to reach for a palette with no matte shadows or neutrals in it.

I personally have to go through mines as well. We absolutely love declutter vides whether they are makeup or even nail polish. It is so satisfying at the end.

I feel this! 😆 I "collect" makeup and we aren't sure yet if we r gonna buy this house or not.. so a ton of my stuff is packed up still and I know I need to reorganize everything but just can not find the energy! 😆 like.. a huge air conditioner box filled up, plus 6 more giant boxes... I dont even want to think about it lol

What a great thing to finally check off! I love eyeshadow too! If you need to keep a color on for a long time or it needs a boost, use an eyeshadow booster. I have ColourPop party proof and I just got BH glitter and eyeshadow booster.

If there is a domestic violence or battered womens shelter in your town they will likely take and stuff like this. I lived in one as a kid and i remember how happy everyone was to get something nice, even if it was used or swatched once or twice. My mom would srpitz the shadows with isopropyl alcohol and never had issues with it. It truly makes a difference to have something pretty when youre down and out, and most of us had lost everything, it really makes a difference!
I'll see if there's a local one! I usually donate my nail polishes and unwanted skincare to local shelters but the ones I've donated to in the past don't accept any used products. If not I'll be donating to the one in Washington for sure! 💖
@KelliMarissaVlogs I'm super late, but a lot of funeral homes will accept makeup that would normally be thrown away! they usually aren't picky with expiration and stuff. 🥴

Thanks Grace! Some palettes have more fallout than others but generally I'll do my eye makeup first and either wipe off the fallout and moisturize after (if I'm not doing face makeup) or wipe it off and put my face makeup on after haha. Totally worth it though, I love their eyeshadows!
I decluttered all my makeup at the beginning of the pandemic and it was liberating! I miss a lot of the products though and a few I might repurchase (they were all old and expired).
Rachel Leigh, eyeshadow palettes can live long after the "printed date" that are really the industry's way of making you throw out perfectly usable product and buy more. All you need to do is sanitize them by spraying 70% alcohol (no higher) onto them and you're good to go until they dry out so much you can't use them, for some of the formulations, they can last over 10 years.

Wish they had these back in my day 50 plus years ago. There were small palettes of a single color in light, medium and dark, and stacked stick eyeshadows but nothing like now!
This kinda motivated me to think differently about MY palettes and rather than matching my makeup to my outfit or whatever, maybe INSTEAD grab a palette and find the appropriate clothing. I feel guilty about the palettes I don't reach for as often and maybe I can stop the cycle! I was talking to the associate in Sally Beauty today about your Clueless Collection S-n-R video!

Me with 5 palettes and only really using my glamlite ice cream one lol. I’m kinda surprised you don’t have any of the Huda neons that came out. the orange neon one was my favorite. I bought around 10 new palettes in the last year but I’m waiting to use them for when I think my older ones are dead

know you've already gotten rid of them, but if you look up "how to fix hard panned eyeshadow" you can see if getting rid of the crust works for you. sometimes that even happens with new shadows, so isn't always about age or use.
You inspired me to finally get rid of my years old cardboard box full of used eyeshadow palettes! It was.....painful, because it reminded me of my failed attempts of using eyeshadow with hooded eyes, but needed to be done. Any tips on palettes to try again with that are beginner friendly, or youtubers you trust with tutorials? Love your content, and thanks again for giving me motivation to clean!
On the palettes you are keeping for 1 or 2 shades ,you can remove them from those palettes and put into one you will use, especially the Colorpop ones

I know how much you love color, so I was surprised to see that you don't have any Menagerie Cosmetics palettes. My son gave me their Whale Song palette a few years ago and I'm still in love with it.

@@KelliMarissaVlogs they have some of the best quality shadows and pigments I've ever used. Look for their Violet Ink (I think that's the name of it) one. Also, the TINIEST bit of color goes a loooooong way!

I’ve been decluttering a lot lately. Went from 4 palettes down to 3 and it still feels like I have too many. Although I use eyeshadow probably like… 10x per year 😅
You could probably rent a carpet cleaner for the eyeshadow in the carpet, should take it right out. Those wet vac things are surprisingly strong. Like wet it with liquid eye makeup remover and then go over it with the wet vac. Nail polish can't do anything for though, but they replaced the carpets in rentals after 2-3 years anyway whether you destroy them or not.
I wanted the Avatar one so bad with some other stuff from their collection but it sold out before I get the money for it 😭😭😭
I have to admit that I almost never use any eye shadow from the pallets that I have haha

You should try Folex on the stain in your carpet. It's amazing stuff. I used it for carpets stains to get my deposit back lol

Ooh great question haha I probably should have mentioned in the video! I know there are glitters that are supposedly eye safe but I've heard they can be pretty bad/dangerous if they get into your eyes, and my doctor is always telling me I need to be more careful with makeup around my eyes so I figured I should just cut glitter out of my makeup in general 😅

idk why these videos are so satisfying to me but they are!! i think i have about 10-12 eyeshadow palettes and could never get rid of them, so kudos to you for having the courage to do this!! also how do you make your own palettes?
There are a few brands that have a "make your own palette" option! ColourPop is one. Basically you get to pick ab empty magnetic palette and then you choose all the colors to go in it! It's a really fun process. I'm pretty sure Makeup Forever has it in Sephora stores too!

Hey! I’m happy that you’re donating your pallets but coming as someone who used donation centres and now works at one, no one wants any makeup that is used. Even if it’s gently used or you can clean it and pull it off as new, no one wants or deserves used makeup. Please don’t donate used makeup
Thanks for sharing your experience. I just don't want them to go to waste and I feel guilty selling anything used! It looks like the company I mentioned does accept gently used products though!

I am use to people coming into the woman’s shelter I work at and the community donation centre donating used stuff and we’re like ummm we dont have the training or capacity or knowledge to clean this stuff lol 😂

Eyeshadow has a pretty short shelf life, so please don't donate any that are expired. Unfortunately you can get eye infections from bad eyeshadow.
