I wish we had a music teacher like that in high school. We had to stand there, with our hands clasped in front of us singing 'The Ash Grove' in the swinging 60's. So embarrasing in front of the whole school assembly...lol. But then it was an old Australia, even then. Our music class in high school was very conservative and dated too..till the last year of high school when we got a new music teacher, with a guitar (wow!) who taught us better songs that had a bit of life in them. His arrangements of old folk songs brought the music up to date, brought our interest in music to the same standard that kids, like us, who didn't want to go to old fashioned music classes, were trying to beat everyone to get into the music room...lol. He then, surprise...re did 'The Ash Grove' so we could move around a bit and had us singing harmonies...I got to like the song after that. Before that, music class was so boring. Just takes one imaginative, and passionate music teacher to change the dynamics of how the school thinks musically. Sad it indeed was the last year of high school. He apparently stayed for another 5 years then left. But the school heads had the sense to employ another modern and very talented teacher after Mr. Watson left.
@brianmorris . you were lucky mate in primary and secondary school we just stood while the "music teacher" walked between us telling those out of tune to shut up.I never sung a note for 7 years!
I really like this song, but I don’t understand the clapping and the jumping at the beginning I don’t understand how that helps with the singing. What am I missing here?
