  • I know it can't be a petrol diesel heater, but that's what people are going to call it. :)
    Here we have an actual petrol/gasoline fired heater. Well made with good parts.
    In this part of the video I unbox the heater and disassemble for a look at the insides. The other video I run and test it.

    £500 plus I think they are having a laugh, I will keep with my £120 diesel heater..4KW. Kept my house nice and warm at the coldest part of last winter and used so little fuel. Thanks for all your vids.
    Your vids really helped me last year to install this unit. I installed it out side but had the air intake inside with a very large foam filter on it, works like a charm, keep up these great vids.
    I still see Billy Connolly in my head every time you do your 'Hellooooo' at the beginning of the vids, love it mate.😁

      Good point. I picked up a Diesel heater for $60 USD that worked fine other than a fan that squealed some at a low setting. Other than that it has run at least 20+ hours without any issues. I get that it is slightly redesigned and some people would rather only have to transport one fuel type. I can do a lot of heating with the difference in cost though. Even if I paid 2-4X what I did.

    Thanks for the great review! The controller uses three wires and forth one does not connect to anywhere.

    The burn chamber is pretty interesting and it seems like they really tried to make a better unit.

    Confused- ive seen other reviews on this and they have come with an ecu for both gasoline and deisel? Did this one not come with both, allowing you to run either(with swap of ecu)? Thanks!

    Is the petrol being 'vaporised' as it passes through the metal tubing at the front of the unit before it enters the burn chamber, like on an 'old school' Coleman camping stove?

      Negative. Although it is atomised on the mesh inside the burn chamber.

    For anyone who reads this thread - DO NOT go with VELIT. Maybe I'm just unlucky but i had it installed less than a week ago. 3 days ago, it started spitting out a ton of soot from exhaust and stopped working. I've been trying to get help from VELIT and they've had me personally work on it for hours with multiple "tests" to try and fix it. I live in my van and told them I'm sleeping in freezing weather (in Colorado). They have been less than responsive and don't seem to care at all saying "we're doing the best we can". They haven't been able to offer any resolution as "they are completely out of stock right now for heaters". The only "fix" was they are now sending me a new ECU as that has been a problem for them on these heaters..that they will talk me through how to install...and it'll be here later this week. They are unable to share any update on when they will send me a new heater. I'm now freezing my ass off in Durango until I can get this resolved. May bite the bullet and try for a THIRD time to get a different heater setup and request a refund. Can't do too many more freezing nights. Just awful experience so far.

      @SkylineRoamer 6 месяцев назад

      Just for what it's worth - wanted to share that the ECU did NOT solve the issue. Heater still doesn't work. The heater is "more affordable" for a reason. It worked fine in Denver/Colorado Springs area. I went up to Wolf Creek (10,000 ft) and after just ONE day it was spitting out soot from exhaust. I do not trust the claim that it accurately monitors the gas flow based on elevation. This heater is NOT reliable at higher elevation as they claim. Worst of all, the customer service is not reliable and even after requesting additional support, the soonest they could send a new unit is two weeks.

    It would be interesting to know if it's any cheaper to run than the usual diesel heaters we have now, do you know if the fuel pump is different as I thought the diesel ones rely on the oil to lubricate the piston in the pump, looking forward to seeing more videos on this David thanks for sharing👍

    • @DavidMcLuckie
      @DavidMcLuckie  9 месяцев назад +5

      Fuel pump is exactly the same pump. Which does shine a bit more light on the myth of pumps wearing out when the wrong fuel is used, which I think comes from people wrongly comparing diesel injectors to these pumps.
      More testing will be required to see if it's any cheaper to run. :)

    • @JohnWD40TC02
      @JohnWD40TC02 9 месяцев назад +1

      Ok thanks David I did wonder if they were the same pumps so it looks like it was a myth that the wear out when using the wrong fuel, cheers.

    Makes me wonder how it fares with a failed ignition that suddenly ignited and goes boom, given petrol's known to get a bit too explodey when the vapours hang about in a nice mix of air & fuel, one of those "just because you can doesn't mean you should" device creations there....... :S

    • @DavidMcLuckie
      @DavidMcLuckie  9 месяцев назад +4

      It pops in much the same way as the diesel heaters do if you don't clear the vapours before firing up the glow plug again. I've had many, many heater backfires while testing the Webastardos. :)

    Connection to the vehicle petrol fuel line could be questionable. If the pulse pump is set to supply 66cc drawn from a standalone tank but is instead connected to the vehicles fuel line pressurised from the vehicles tank pump (usually 2.9 bar) with the supplied connectors, which are the correct petrol fuel line conns for most petrol injection systems, would the pulse pump not then have the potential to over fuel?

      Those connectors are for the factory installed standpipe for the Ford Transit and Ram Promaster. They are OEM for a convenience for running any auxiliary gasoline fired appliance, generator, heater etc. It's not pressurized. It's merely a factory installed standpipe.

    There is no evidence of safety certification in the user manual. They merely state on the website "Velit air heater uses only high-quality and validated components to provide outstanding reliability. For example, it uses a Japanese glow plug with at least three times the lifespan compared to cheap ones. The controller is weather sealed to prevent water damage. "
    I would not sleep in a van with one of these. Petrol is a very different proposition to diesel when it comes to fire risk.

    £500 quid, yeah, erm I mean, no. not paying that m8, that’s 5x diesel heaters. Also, i’d rather carry hard to ignite, non explosive diesel in my van than a chinese unit holding petrol, petrol with wires, petrol with a source of ignition. No.

    • @randybobandy9828
      @randybobandy9828 7 месяцев назад

      Ya I guess all those cars with wires and petrol are so unsafe. The benefit of Petrol in my opinion is cost. Diesel in my area is 25% more expensive than petro. Running that all winter long can save hundreds of dollars, otherwise diesel makes more sense.

    At the price that controller looks very poor. No remote or any Bluetooth. Not even any cable strain relief. That little OLED screen is very common for Arduino projects.
