Just thank you... -33 Celsius in Winnipeg Canada tonight, if it wasn't for your video I would have rented a hotel tonight. I cleaned out the carbon and just reinstalled the heater. Current temp in my bus at install 0 degrees. Heater is blowin hot. I owe you a pint...or ten. Thanks again & cheers
Well, I tore my heater apart three times before finding your video I saw 2 years ago. I had the white smoke out of the exhaust and intake. Cleaned it 3 times, more places each time, the fourth time I went directly after that little 1/8th inch ish hole by the screen, cleaned that out with carb cleaner and it fired right up. Thanks for the video, I now have a backup heater again.
Great video! First time I understood that the reason for the white smoke is that the flame did not start and the fuel is only grilled by the glow plug, due to the blocked little hole, which causes that there is no ignition flame and no real burning of the diesel
Had the exact same issues, followed up his video and now works perfect! If you ever do a video with the recommended settings on your controller it would be very much appreciated 😅
THANK YOU for posting this. Have a very similar German made heater in my mobile crane cab. Cold snap coming this week, and I really needed to get it working. Drained diesel, cleaned the line and filter, still no heat just smoke. This video finally helped me figure out what needed to be done. Took it apart and cleaned it up good this evening, and I have heat just in time for an icy work week!
Thank you so much for posting this video mine was chock-a-block with dust and now working perfectly thank you.. I have ordered a clean as snorkel intake for it
im now having similar issues with mine but your video has helped my knowledge to whats inside and how to strip and rebuild it, plus your handy tip if the small air hole at the glow plug. thank you.
Billy Connolly does night heaters !! Great videos though I have to say. Ive had a few issues myself with carbon build up . I've found there is usually some other problem that leads to premature carbon build up like low power due to battery voltage being low in first place and further volts drop through over length wiring of wrong section cable or incorrect plumbing allowing air to hide in joints , filters and pumps . Brilliant heaters when installed and used correctly though .
Another thank you my bunk heater quit last year it would come on click click shut off white smoke. After watching your video took it upon myself to pull it out and see if I could find the issue. It was easy got it apart that plug hole on the side you was talking about was my issue I cleaned it out, Clean the glow plug tip put it together and it fired right up. Shut it off several times to see if it continue to work and it does hot hot hot thank you so much again for your video.
Thank you for the video! I would have never known that little air hole was there, I took out my glow plug and sure enough, it was plugged up. I removed the screen also, but that seemed ok. I've been pretty good with running mine at full blast every few days to help keep the burn chamber somewhat clean. Cheers!
I have tried for 2 weeks to get my heater working and no-one could give me advise to fix it but I then saw the title of this video was my problem so watched it and no-one had mentioned the little vent hole in the glow pin hole to me. I removed the glow pin, found and cleaned out the little hole and away it went. Thank you.
Thank you David, I bought a Parking Heater in January this year and I'm very pleased with it. BUT! I've read so many bad comments about these CDH . Your video is very reassuring that these heaters can be easily repaired.
Luv wacthing you work your magic I need a man like you... another great video!! Thanks, I'm about to buy one for my boat, going to tap into my diesel fuel line instead of using a provided fuel tank...
I had the same thing when the exhaust run on my heater in the garage was too long. Exhaust blocked and the heater got flooded. Unblocked exhaust, still a smoke machine. Figured the fuel air mix was off so I let it try to start and blew down the intake as hard as I could. Smoke, Smoke, smoke, POP! whooosh. Let it run as hot as possible and it was fine. It only took about 2 days for the smell of Diesel fog to dissipate....
Thank you for the great video's I am going through them as I get time just wanted to mention something about my own experience with one of the heater's that also got full of soot after only 3 days I cleaned it and ran at full power for 4 days and it stopped working I striped it down again and cleaned as full of soot but this time I noticed my fan had 2 magnet's on it so I changed the setting SN1 to SN2 and now it runs great ... It seems the brain thought the fan was going faster than it was and delivering to much fuel , hope this helps someone, keep up the great work. HAPPY NEW YEAR 🥳
Thank you for making this video. My “new” heater instantly started to act like this and your information helped me repair it. Turns out they sent me one that was FULL of debris and gunk, probably just gave me someone else’s return. SMH. You’re a lifesaver!!
Thanks for good video. I bought one after seeing one of your videos.i have had it in my van now for over 24 months. With no problem. Thanks 😊 its a god send and for the 130 pounds I spent worth it.top branded ones are 500 plus. I even put it on when at home.why because I didn't want to de ice my windows in the morning. On a low tick over at 16 degrees. No ice and van starts 1st time.such a low battery drawer when at temperature .I thank you kind sir lol
Love this vid. I purchased a diesel heater that has yet to arrive and was wondering how user friendly they were to take apart and service. I built my own waste oil heater for my shop out of scrap over a decade ago. These are not real complicated. I think I will be happy with mine.
MY HEATER HAD LESS THAN 1 GALLON BURNED THROUGH IT ,AND I REMOVED THE GLOW PLUG AND STUCK AN L SHAPED PIECE OF WIRE THROUGH THE AIR HOLE AND CLEANED IT OUT, AND IT FIRED RIGHT UP, THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION!
David, Also worth getting the burn chamber REALLY clean and bone dry by heating it up with a blow torch. Once cool, reassemble. Its amazing the clouds of smoke you'll get from very back of chamber with a blow torch (where its almost impossible to clean) and it gives an even greater chance of a successful start up. From what I've gleaned, the hidden part of the burn chamber is composed of a ring of welding blanket (carbon felt) which can absorb fuel like a wick. Its held in place with stainless steel mesh. After running rich or flooding, this felt no longer soaks up diesel because its become totally gummed up with soot and residue. It sets like concrete in there and the fuel can't catch fire and invariably drips out the exhaust or air inlet. Carb cleaner (or cellulose thinners) will definitely aid cleaning the burn chamber but the blowtorch is the surest way of restoring the absorbency of the carbon felt, and its super fast. You usually get flame out or E8 error after the white smoke which is often attributed to fuel when sometimes what it needs is a proper clean - and/or as in this case, clearing of blocked holes.
Thank you. I've been wondering what goes on inside, it's basically a mini "salamander heater" we call it. Like a big orange job site heater with k1 in a tank on the bottom. It's like that but inside its own own heat exchanger. Brilliant
Kind of. Salamander, Torpedo, diesel space heaters use compressed air (compressor built into fan motor) to blow (through a nozzle) a mix of air and diesel which is then ignited. These little diesel heaters use the hot surface of the burn chamber to vapourise the diesel which then mixes with the air from the fan and burns inside. So they are similar in that they burn diesel, but have a long startup and shutdown compared to the Salamander which can deliver instant heat.
@@DavidMcLuckie Interesting! I always thought they use the same system as oil boilers and very large (>20kw) diesel air heaters, where the burner motor drives a combustion air blower and an oil pump, that sends high pressure oil/diesel to a nozzle, that sprays it into the burn chamber as a very fine mist. On such units, the air and combustion gasses are also seperated by a large tube heat exchanger.
Came here because my heater on my Merc w211 had suddenly stopped working after we started having temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius. Fortunately I figured out the issue today and boy was it foolish. The exhaust pipe had shifted off from it's hole on the bumper and its end was surrounded with 1 cm thick ice. After tearing it off and blow torching the ice off from the tube the Eberspächer started right up, but it smoked like hell for 15 minutes meaning the entire hood area was full of smoke including some smoke on the interior as well. To help others here were my symptoms: Heater fan and glow plug started normally via remote. After 30 seconds of running the diesel pump started clicking slowly. After 1.5 minutes the diesel pump and the fan gradually went crazy to the point where the clicking was really fast and the fan was super loud. After 2.5 minutes it just shut off the diesel pump and the fan started running low and quiet. If you are experiencing same type of behaving with your heater I'd recommend you to check out the exhaust pipe from both ends.
how do I know with my heater which side i can lay it on without opening it up.. the install book for my coolant heater shows all kinds of different appeciable positions.. I have issues when it is -5c or colder with it doing white smoke starts.. after about 2 or 3 tries it will fire up and run normally..
Do you have a suggestion for duty cycle or minimum on time? I have heard these need to run on high all the time. Trying to decide on a cheap 8kw or cheap 2kw. Great videos, learning tons, cheers!
Flagpoles from amazon maybe ebay duno but I got these out of a "return bin" and they work SUPER for ex pipe!. I put them on my van and in garage! Fits perfect onto the ex of unit, sections of bout .5 meter then the top where the ball is fit PERFECTLY on the outside of a muffler! (with two little half holes who cares!) I got all of em I could and my cats Hungry.... TBC...
So. I just faced down my demonic smoke belcher and might have been victorious. I blew in the intake as somebody mentioned, not plugged solid. Had already replaced glow screen and the plug today as it was damaged from overheating itself. Blasted a bunch of electronics cleaner in the glow hole followed by compressed air previously. Shot it with more tonight, rammed the plug in and set it to go. Sprayed carb cleaner up the intake a few times and got nice fireballs a few times. Noted chunks of cokey soot rattling out the exhaust. Got nicely heated up and seemed to quit smoking so bad. I had left the shroud off and it went E05 overheat which may have further contributed to self cleaning. Now its actually heating up again and all but zero smoke.... wow.
Well hell I just got back to find it shut down again. E08. It likes that one. It ran like brand new for 2 nights after I gave it the shenanigans. Do you suspect it is still plugged up or something else? Its currently trying to light, glow plug indicator and the pump are going, but doesn't want to light off.
Good grief. Forgot how difficult my install was. The hatred is unreal. The quality is absurd. Like everything is wrong. I only even used this thing a couple of months. Plugged up, turns out the pump isn't er, pumping despite doing so merrily, so recently. I already properly disposed of the provided filter and put on a huge canister filter with a water bowl. The last time I messed with it seemed the blower motor was acting stuck This is just so much fun its incredible
Thanks for the great informational videos on the heaters. The burner tube on my no name "8kw" Chinese heater screws apart so you can remove and clean the metal wool and screen sleeve in the base (not referring to the little diffuser screen around the glow plug). All the others I've seen are one piece or welded. Any idea where I can get a spare metal wool sleeve?
I do have a picture but don't know how to send it to you. Sorry for not seeing your reply for several months. I also found new mesh inserts on eBay 5 for $15 US.
Hi David, is the air inlet hole near the glow plug accessible for cleaning without dismantling the combustion chamber. I was wondering if by removing the glow plug and using a right angled probe to dislodge any built up grime in the air hole would work ?
Hi David, Ive got a heater with the water heat exchanger built in, from Alibaba, works great, but im wondering if its possible to fit a controller from one that doesnt have the water pump control built in, as id rather control this exterally, and the controller it came with isnt the best with chinese writing etc.
Hello, the video you shared is very explanatory , I have some questions, how is a metering diesel fuel pump cataloged, by pulses per second, pulses per minute, I saw a diesel fuel metering pump and it says 22ml? Thank you
I have 2 of them. Found out old fuel will clog it up quickly and make a lot of smoke. Also saw one guy who said always having it on low will produce a lot of carbon deposits in the burn chamber. Hard to find parts. But it kind of looks like they are mostly the same internally.
It certainly makes sense. Running on low will build up carbon quicker. So maybe running it once per week at full power for 30 mins to give it a good blast of fuel and heat will keep it running good. Also a lot of people using old spoilt fuel will get this problem. Cheers friend 👍👍
A 5kw heater I've been using for a couple years began smoking on startup but always started on it's automatic second try. Internal inspection showed no carbon buildup, mesh was clean, and the small hole by the glow plug was unobstructed. The motherboard was the problem. Replacing it fixed the smoke issue.
That's weird... I just posted my comment above. Exactly the same as yours. Mine still starts up on the 2nd. try and I have 2 other New units that I have never even fired up... I may just replace the whole unit and then dive into this one I have been using for nearly 3 years now.
Do you think it would be possible to clean the heater by squirting brake cleaner through the tiny hole near the glow plug before it finally gives up starting ? Great videos thanks.
Yes. Another commenter had to do a similar thing. If you can clean out the hole and remove the glowplug and blast in there with brake cleaner as well. Then fire it up and let it burn it all off.
I’m getting a weird white solid build up in the combustion chamber and white smoke pouring out the exhaust. I’ve stripped and rebuilt and it works every time for about 2 week before the same build up comes back. Run on red and white diesel with no additives. Only other time I’ve seen build up like it was with a blocked dpf on a car. Exhaust doesn’t seem to be restricted at all. Any ideas?
i was testing mine last night for couple hrs outside and it was upside down and seemed to run fine with no leak? you would think they would have a This side up sticker on it ?
my coment befor watching im in a van at the moment and have this problem I spray egr up the intake whistle tryingto start and it pops then a quik flame frows sutty gunk out then it starts after a fuw times.a pump or cloged exorst also causes it .
Hi David love the videos , here's a good one for you , I have a Chinese 5 kw 2 months old 300 hours use now , past few weeks seems slower to light and smoke for few minutes then lights ,now the mystery is I can smell the grey smoke coming out of the blower vents , I've checked its not from the very end of exhaust outside ,I looked underneath and its leaking right near were it joins the base / manifold outlet ,I've re done the exhaust nice strong super clamp even a wee bit of paste ,but it still puffs out a tricle of grey diesel smoke which is pulled into the gap were the silicone gasket is ,the silicone gasket is also brittle and broken only 2 months old !, any ideas were this smoke could be coming from ? I re tight end exhaust clamps 3 times to check ,it wasn't them it seems nearer the very base of the alloy exhaust pipe ,can they crack ? Its bizarre, and dangerous suppose not using it obviously till fixed , I can not see any cracks in the exhaust port ,the clamp was tight on the exhaust tube no play , I think its been doing this a while but I only can smell and see it when its starting up, Starts up .. glow plug on ,pump on ,then grey smoke then maybe 2 minutes it fires up and runs ok , the smell goes away from blower vents but I guess it could still be emitting invisible gases once its running warm , any ideas I remain baffled 😀
If your combustion gasses are mixing with the hot air you might have a leak/crack in the heater housing that seals up again once hot. Or one of the gaskets that seal the combustion chamber could have failed and is also leaking. Do you have a carbon monoxide alarm?
@@DavidMcLuckie yes got alarm ,took heater out the black silicone seal and the fuel inlet pipe square seal are brittle and cracked ! 3 month old heater ! The smoke may be coming from the fuel pipe seal not sure yet till I put new seals on and test ,seems very odd the seals look like rubber to me, and the smell I was getting was like sunburnt diesel rather than exhaust smell
Helloooo David Have you had any dealings with the Webasto type water heaters like the ones used as pre heaters on diesel cars, your videos on the air heaters are brilliant as you put it all into simple terms for the average bod out there (webasto vids would be good) Cheers Grahame
I've been pouring liquid oven cleaner into the burned and it sure cleans up very well. Is there any reason not to do this. I'm also using carburettor cleaner aerosol.
Hi I get the same thing but when I start it on second attempt I get it to fire up it seems.like the first start blows the flame out when the glow plug light goes off. Any advise
Hi! Love your video's my man. It takes some effort to make out the dialect :), but thats ok. Did you already experiment with a catalyst in the exhaust?
@@DavidMcLuckie Yes! Like from a car. It might mitigate smoke? (I've seen people do some easy tests on yt, I always thought it was difficult to get it working because of controlling rich/lean mixture. but could work apparently?? So, juuust a thought, juuuust a thought.. as Halle Berry put it once :p)
Mine does that exact same thing...except mine always starts up immediately when I wait about 15 minutes and try to start it up again ! I tore it apart last week to see if I could see anything wrong... it was Super clean everywhere inside of the unit (I have used it for nearly 3 years and first time taking it apart) ! I am now guessing it must be my Glow Plug ! (I should have replaced it when I had it apart and out of my van !)
Thinking about buying one of these things for my shed workshop, there seem to be loads from the Czech republic for about £80 but they've got a really simple no display controller, is there any advantage to buying one with an LCD controller or is it just 'pretty' lights?
Hey gentlemen. What are the best settings for these for a 12v units? Or does it come down to touch, feel and smell sort of thing when your running your unit??? Obviously not to much smell or you would be on your back. Cheers gents 👍👍👍
If you run kerosene or even better the synthetic version every once in awhile, you’ll never have to open it up to clean it. A few capfuls of Automatic Transmission fluid in every tankful will make a world of difference
My one drips oil from the intake but only when it is run on a mixture of engine oil and diesel, doesn't do it when run on strait diesel, any suggestions on what may be going on, it is a new heater with the new controller like the black one in this video only it has a spanner emblem where the others have a asterisk, none of the codes work only 1234 and it gives you some strange settings.
@@DavidMcLuckie couple of questions please... 1. I have a 5kw all in one, what would you recommend the best settings for it? At the mo I have 1.5hz - 5.3hz and 1650 - 4600. 2. With these settings I run the heater until it gets to temperature which is. Orally about 22 degrees in my van but the temp on the heater continues to rise...I got to 34 degrees today and decided to turn off...is this because my fan isn’t cooling the heater quickly or purely because the inside of my van is continuing to get hotter? It certainly didn’t feel like 34 in my van!
From my experience from same heater, if I use maximum pump speed, 5,4Hz it start sooting and after a while barely give any warm. And it would not start, only white smoke. If pump settings are 5.2Hz or lower then it goes on without problem. I think it does not got enough air to burner. Maybe fan speed tinkerin can help but some said that bearings will worn out quite fast if run 5000 rpm
My brand new heater is taking around 6 or 7 attempts before it starts up - until then I get an e03 error message every time (about 90 seconds or so after pressing the on button). After 6 or 7 tries it starts up and runs no problem - then when I turn it off I get another e03 error message during the shut off process Any ideas what this may be? It's connected directly to a brand new fully chanlrged lithium battery so I don't think it's a voltage problem. Maybe I should replace the glow plug?
When i prime my diesel night heater the fuel runs straight through and out of the exhaust outside my workshop, The fuel pipe will not fill after 4 prime attempts, In the past when i primed the heater my fuel line always had fuel and little bubbles in the line, Any ideas what might be wrong with the heater David please.
Is there a leak between the pump outlet and the fuel inlet on the heater? For diesel to run out of the fuel line air must be able to get in. My all in one sometimes does this when I don't clamp the fuel lines on the pump and overnight it lets the air in and fuel leaks out. But it always stills fires up as the fuel pipe is so short.
At the start of the video you said that the person that sent the heater to you claimed it was new and it had never run …???.. clearly it was a very well used heater being operated by somebody who had no idea what they where doing with the settings for the burn control causing this problem of over fuelling the combustion chamber . Apart from that what a great video for all those do it your selfies .. nice job .. 😊
If you remove the glow plug , and use brake cleaner, and carburetor cleaner with straw sometimes will clean up enough to get it hot . The carbon is acting like a space shuttle heat tile. Due to faulty controller shutdown developed this carbon condition And thank you autozone
Hi David, I have 1 of those (well 4 but 2 will not work) diesel water heater in the background (B24) but can never get it to work, The instructions I found shows you just apply power and it works but mine doesnt do anything, I can test each components using the test software but apart from that it doesnt work, can you tell me what the secret is for you getting yours to work please?
This is the part a lot of people don't know. A large amount of those Webastos are pulled from scrap cars. Which require a CANbus signal from the vehicles ECU to actually turn them on and off. Which is why we've been working on replacement controllers for the heaters - ruclips.net/video/X8AdLsXD9_U/видео.html Another option is reflashing the firmware, but again that only works if have a compatible controller in the Webasto to start with.
HELLOOOOOO! My Vavoer "8K" is a year old. Now throws ERROR 10, smokes like a Cummins, refuses to ignite. Replaced glow plug, same. Took it apart, was super clean inside, except a hard grey ash way down in the bottom of the burn chamber. Picked and 3 tbsp. of that out, looks clean as a whistle now. Soaked in a good carb cleaner, allowed to fully dry, reassembled. Still no joy. Am thinking that the catalyst screen in the burn chamber must be gone or ruined - everything else checks out right as rain. Your thoughts, please?
Replaced screen in glow plug chamber. I'm referring to something I'd heard of another mesh screen in the belly of the actual main burn chamber, if there is such a thing. Otherwise, I am completely stumped.
I too have heard of this other screen inside the burn chamber. But I haven't cut one open for a look yet. Did it just run fine previously and just stopped starting?
It would certainly help keep it clean. A good tune would also mean less carbon build up. A combination of the two should then mean almost no need to clean the heater. :)
Just thank you...
-33 Celsius in Winnipeg Canada tonight, if it wasn't for your video I would have rented a hotel tonight. I cleaned out the carbon and just reinstalled the heater. Current temp in my bus at install 0 degrees.

Great job thanks and cheers from Canada.
Great video, thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Hi David great video ours ran for 1/2 he then started blowing smoke error 09 ,so I will have look inside as you have thanks again rgds Peter
nicely done .. that really was letting out the smoke
As usual a great video
brilliant ... thx ... fixed my issue ... blocked flame hole
Awesome info, Helloooo from the USA
Good job mate. From Australia 🦘
Fantastic video
hi dave nice video learned a lot, can you tell me a good company to get a heater for my ducato van cheers john
how do I know with my heater which side i can lay it on without opening it up.. the install book for my coolant heater shows all kinds of different appeciable positions..
Can you please explain the changes to the settings to reduce the fuel
Flagpoles from amazon maybe ebay duno but I got these out of a "return bin" and they work SUPER for ex pipe!. I put them on my van and in garage! Fits perfect onto the ex of unit, sections of bout .5 meter then the top where the ball is fit PERFECTLY on the outside of a muffler! (with two little half holes who cares!) I got all of em I could and my cats Hungry.... TBC...
Hi. Thanks! Do you know why the fuel pump needs to be at this 45 deg. Upward angle. I've been running mine 45 deg. Down hill. Thanks! Love the vid
Helps to keep the air bubbles moving up and out.
Hi.
When ya say you altered the controls.
What did you actually set the hz and fan peed to.
Hi David I keep getting e05 on my heater second unit that I've had could it be my main board as air flow is all good love the videos thanks Ry
Could be the main board or the actual temperature sensor itself.
16:10 “white smoke, no light, check hole” - that should maybe go on a T-Shirt?
I am in the market for one of these is there a particular one that you prefer or are they all the same
I shared your video link on my video about these diesel air heaters about not running them on low all the time because they will soot up
Ever try shooting in a good blast of brakleen into the intake while it is running to de-carbonize? Just wondering if it would actually work or not.
Any idea why my glow plug stays on constantly? The display shows the glowplug is on all the time? Many thanks
Hi, what settings on fuel did you use?
Now its actually heating up again and all but zero smoke.... wow.
Nice, flames out the exhaust is always a nice touch.
The intake, actually. Right back in my face, inside a cargo bin under my bus. Not huge but nice. :p
Yikes!
Well hell
I just got back to find it shut down again.
The last time I messed with it seemed the blower motor was acting stuck
This is just so much fun its incredible
Thanks for the great informational videos on the heaters.
The burner tube on my no name "8kw" Chinese heater screws apart so you can remove and clean the metal wool and screen sleeve in the base (not referring to the little diffuser screen around the glow plug). All the others I've seen are one piece or welded. Any idea where I can get a spare metal wool sleeve?
Interesting. That sounds like a design I haven't seen in the cheap heaters. Have you got any pictures?
I do have a picture but don't know how to send it to you. Sorry for not seeing your reply for several months.
I also found new mesh inserts on eBay 5 for $15 US.
Excellent thanks for this
My mate adds some injector cleaner in his diesel heater and it cleaned it out well, no longer blows white smoke now 👍
I've thought about running Seafoam in mine as preventative maintenance. I wonder if that would work alright
Hi David, is the air inlet hole near the glow plug accessible for cleaning without dismantling the combustion chamber. I was wondering if by removing the glow plug and using a right angled probe to dislodge any built up grime in the air hole would work ?
Yes, if you take out the glowplug you can poke at it with a right angled pick as you've suggested.
Hi David, Ive got a heater with the water heat exchanger built in, from Alibaba, works great, but im wondering if its possible to fit a controller from one that doesnt have the water pump control built in, as id rather control this exterally, and the controller it came with isnt the best with chinese writing etc.
You should be able to swap out the entire ECU and controller as the burner part of the heater is just the standard kind.
Thanks for that make that video is really helpful
Brilliant Video thanks
Many thanks for the tips. Is there a good source of the burn tubes? And other spare parts like gasket sets.
eBay, AliExpress, Amazon.
@@DavidMcLuckie Many thanks.
Good work
Hello, the video you shared is very explanatory , I have some questions, how is a metering diesel fuel pump cataloged, by pulses per second, pulses per minute, I saw a diesel fuel metering pump and it says 22ml? Thank you
ml per 1000 pulses. So a 22ml would be 0.022ml per pulse.
Old fuel, interesting. If you're looking for parts Aliexpress has almost every part available I've seen. I've bought burn chambers and fuel pumps.
Any ideas?
I haven't seen a white build up. Well except on waste oil.
i was testing mine last night for couple hrs outside and it was upside down and seemed to run fine with no leak? you would think they would have a This side up sticker on it ?
my coment befor watching im in a van at the moment and have this problem I spray egr up the intake whistle tryingto start and it pops then a quik flame frows sutty gunk out then it starts after a fuw times.a pump or cloged exorst also causes it .
Thank you!
Helloooo David
Have you had any dealings with the Webasto type water heaters like the ones used as pre heaters on diesel cars, your videos on the air heaters are brilliant as you put it all into simple terms for the average bod out there (webasto vids would be good)
Cheers Grahame
There is a few Webasto videos in my videos, Webastards as I like to call them.
@@DavidMcLuckie 🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍
I've been pouring liquid oven cleaner into the burned and it sure cleans up very well. Is there any reason not to do this. I'm also using carburettor cleaner aerosol.
No reason not too. If it cleans it out then that's the main thing.
Hi I get the same thing but when I start it on second attempt I get it to fire up it seems.like the first start blows the flame out when the glow plug light goes off. Any advise
I get the same. Any luck yet?
great videos"
Hey dave I run a air intake filter so nothing gets sucked up I opened a heater and found a Wasp nest ,

Hi! Love your video's my man. It takes some effort to make out the dialect :), but thats ok. Did you already experiment with a catalyst in the exhaust?
Do you mean like a catalytic converter?
Them cheap Chinese heaters are amazing keeps me warm at night in my camper 😎👍
Thinking about buying one of these things for my shed workshop, there seem to be loads from the Czech republic for about £80 but they've got a really simple no display controller, is there any advantage to buying one with an LCD controller or is it just 'pretty' lights?
With the LCD controller, you can set up the burning rate better, fan speeds etc, you can alter settings to suit your needs
Exactly what Ricky said.
Amazed the smoke could actually get through the carbon in the exhaust port 🙊
Me too.
“Normally” not orally 😂
From my experience from same heater, if I use maximum pump speed, 5,4Hz it start sooting and after a while barely give any warm. And it would not start, only white smoke. If pump settings are 5.2Hz or lower then it goes on without problem. I think it does not got enough air to burner. Maybe fan speed tinkerin can help but some said that bearings will worn out quite fast if run 5000 rpm
Did you replace the internal gasket as well? If so, was the old one cracked or anything? Thanks for the vid.
Gasket was fine. Usually they come apart without tearing.
My brand new heater is taking around 6 or 7 attempts before it starts up - until then I get an e03 error message every time (about 90 seconds or so after pressing the on button). After 6 or 7 tries it starts up and runs no problem - then when I turn it off I get another e03 error message during the shut off process
Any ideas what this may be? It's connected directly to a brand new fully chanlrged lithium battery so I don't think it's a voltage problem. Maybe I should replace the glow plug?
Glow plug, or wiring of the glow plug. I have a heater that does that depending on how I bend the wire as it contacts poorly with the pins on the ECU.
What are the controller settings supposed to be?
Apart from that what a great video for all those do it your selfies .. nice job .. 😊
Sorry, not that it had never run, but had never run properly.
I don't know what it had been run on, or if something had made a nest inside. :)
David, could you soak it to clean it? If so with what?
If you remove the glow plug , and use brake cleaner, and carburetor cleaner with straw sometimes will clean up enough to get it hot . The carbon is acting like a space shuttle heat tile.
Due to faulty controller shutdown developed this carbon condition
And thank you autozone
Hi David, I have 1 of those (well 4 but 2 will not work) diesel water heater in the background (B24) but can never get it to work, The instructions I found shows you just apply power and it works but mine doesnt do anything, I can test each components using the test software but apart from that it doesnt work, can you tell me what the secret is for you getting yours to work please?
This is the part a lot of people don't know. A large amount of those Webastos are pulled from scrap cars. Which require a CANbus signal from the vehicles ECU to actually turn them on and off.
Which is why we've been working on replacement controllers for the heaters - ruclips.net/video/X8AdLsXD9_U/видео.html
Another option is reflashing the firmware, but again that only works if have a compatible controller in the Webasto to start with.
What about white smoke from air intake then failure to ignite? Brand new burn chamber/fan etc?
Is the fan spinning?
can I used Diesel Fuel, Supplement/Cetane Boost in my heater fuel to make it burn cleaner , keep it cleaner?
It would certainly help keep it clean. A good tune would also mean less carbon build up. A combination of the two should then mean almost no need to clean the heater. :)
