I got mine done 4 days ago. It felt like a hard pinch when I got it. Not too bad. I didn't cry, there wasn't a lot of blood, and I didn't even flinch. I got some saline solution from my piercer. It was sore for probably the first 2 and a half hours after I got it, but then I couldn't feel it at all unless I stood up or sat down really fast. So far, no redness, the bruising is pretty much gone, no crusties, no more bleeding, no secretion, nothing. I bumped it on accident earlier today at work, not hard enough to hurt really, and it's been sensitive since then. It doesn't hurt, but I can feel it and it's like a boarder line itchy sensation? I'm not sure how to describe it. I started out with paper towels, which worked super well, and yesterday I picked up a pack of q-tips to use. I think I like the paper towel cleaning better honestly! I will say I'm super super happy with it and I get excited every time I look at my reflection. I'm deathly afraid of it rejecting though, which happened to my cousin. If anybody has any further advice, I'd love to hear it!!
Great vid! I got my navel pierced in 1999, for my 41st birthday! The piercer was a freelancer, as there were few piercing shops and tattoo shops with piercers then. I felt very comfortable with her because she was also a RN surgical nurse. That situation seems to be less of a problem these days! We used her house. She maintained the sterile field with a sheet on the sofa, where I laid down fully on my back after she marked me. She had me get autoclaved jewelry to her specs at a piercing shop, a curved barbell, 1/2”, and bring it with me. She had all of her equipment autoclaved and she wore gloves and swapped them, everything a good piercer does! She said it is important to get the piercing deep enough to prevent rejection. I happen to have a perfectly shaped navel as well. It all went great, barely hurt at all. I was joking about how Madonna said she fainted when she got hers done, and the piercer said, Madonna is a pussy!” 😂 After, the area was too tender to get near for 24 hours, then it was tender but I could soap it up. I showered every day, so it was easy to keep clean. Back then, antibacterial soap was prevalent and recommended (antibacterial soap was discontinued a few years ago because it contributes to MRSA and other antibiotic resistant pathogens.) I had no problem with rejection, so that was great. What I did have even though I was wearing low-rise and hip hugger pants all the time is that the top ball was still pressing in and making that spot to one side look a bit thin. The barbell would flop side to side. As soon as I could, I changed to a captured bead ring with a small bead and wore that for about a year, which worked out really well. It did end up healing a tiny bit crooked because of what the curved barbell bead did. I found that top-drop jewelry worked best and fixed any remaining crookedness. For years now, I wear whatever I like with no problems.. I didn’t use saline soaks then because it was really awkward and there weren’t the products available. I just kept it clean and didn’t use isopropyl or peroxide. I’m surprised that no one has recommended NeilMed salt packets for nasal irrigation! Pre-measured for mixing with distilled water only to make 8 ounces of saline! NeilMed and the generic store brands like Up and Up and Equate are really good too. Grocery store sea salt is not sanitary, and while it’s safe to eat, it has impurities that are not safe for nasal irrigation or piercings. I got a sinus infection from sea salt for a sinus irrigation years ago. I’ve been doing proper nasal irrigation for my allergies for years now with NeilMed packets and distilled water for with excellent results. I can understand the problem with contact lens solutions and the reason not to recommend them because some dimbulb is gonna confuse *disinfecting* solution with *saline* solution. The former is absolutely not for piercings, while the latter can be because it is isotonic saline like in NeilMed products, except it does have a tiny amount of benzalkonium chloride as preservative, which some people could react to, so it’s not good for everyone. I learned some cool things about wound care from piercings! My husband cut his foot and had to go to the er because of blood thinners. We got him taken care of, and after we got home, I gave him a bottle of contact lens *saline* to keep it clean, and it healed up really quickly! It has taken years to get him away from peroxide and isopropyl! He had another wound recently, and I got him a wound wash spray for that. Again, much faster healing!😊 I started wearing contacts nearly 50 years ago, hard ones, and all of the products had thimerosol in them as a preservative. A mercury compound! They stopped using it in the mid 1980s and now use benzalkonium chloride preservative. I feel safe using this saline on piercings because I know my body is accustomed to it, *but it is not the only thing I use*, which I think is important! I use a combination of NeilMed spray (my main go to), contact saline on a half cotton round if the crusties don’t come off with spray, and homemade distilled with a NeilMed salt packet. We have a home distiller because my husband has a cpap, so I have an unlimited supply to use with salt packets. It sure beats schlepping gallons of water from the grocery store like we used to for years! For piercings, a gallon or two of distilled can last several weeks, so that’s not a terrible inconvenience! All of my piercings and stretchings have done really well over the past year and a half! I plan on getting a few more. The only problem area has been nostril piercing bumps. I’m pretty sure that allergic stress aggravates the nasal piercings from even the most careful nose wiping. I’m not giving up yet! I love your channel, Gretchen! I’ve learned so much from you! You’re my role model even though I’m old enough to be your mom! I went up to a 00 briefly on my lobes, but back up to 0 because the look was better and the size more comfortable. I really love it! Love and hugs to you!❤️🤗
What piercings do you have? (:. That's so cool of a story? Do you still have your belly pierced? You should totally do a video about it. There aren't many people around who have a belly piercing from the old days of them! You really are a pioneer!!! What kind of jewelry do you wear in it?
Yup had one. Got pierced with a ring. 0/10 would not recommend. Got horribly infected. Cleared it up and switched to a barbell. Never healed right and took it out when I got pregnant. I don’t want another one because I have stretch marks and never show my stomach. So I’ll stick to ears! Love your channel.
Got it done, loved it, but then took it out when I was pregnant (I didn't know about the flexible barbels for pregnant bellies). Now I want to have it reopened!
I just discovered your channel today and really loved your piercing comprehensive guides and actually was about to request a navel video, now here you are! How crazy!
I really would like one, but my anatomy isn’t meant for the standard navel piercing. Another option that some are able to do is a floating navel piercing, which is pierced with different jewelry to allow for those like me whose navel “folds in” when they sit, and/or don’t have a prominent ridge to pierce. I have been seriously considering the floating navel ever since my piercer told me about it!
Well my daughter had her belly piersed two years ago and the thing was so short that the top ball literally sunk in the skin - hurt as hell. She had it repiersed this spring (the scar had no impact) and she felt almost no pain, no swelling, super healing, all perfect and happy. But just yesterday she realised that all of the sudden the piersing started being rejected! The skin over the barbel was geting pretty thin. So with sadness she took it out. Maybe she will try again but the scar will be pretty thick. What do you think about a dermal?
So I've had mine for just over a year now, and to be totally honest, I haven't cleaned it as often as I probably should and I've knocked it a fair bit. But it's always made this kinda..goop. Like a nasty sort of stretchy snot textured goop even when its not sore or red or showing any other signs of being irritated. is this normal? Is this just what form crusties or is that supposed to be a different texture? I worry that it's not fully healed and the top hole of it isn't red like when its irritated but theres a darkness (like a faint purply colour) under the skin around the hole. I'm thinking of just showing it to a piercer and seeing what they say but thought I might ask here first. x
I got mine done in May but apparently I don’t have the right anatomy for it, the guy just pierced it and I had no idea. Then it was starting to look really weird on me and a different piercer told me to take it out cuz it was rejecting 😭 tbh it didn’t look really good on me prob cuz of my anatomy. If your belly button closes when you sit down apparently you can’t get this done My current piercer also told me that clamps aren’t good for navels? Idk if that’s just her opinion or new info, she’s a new piercer. I think it’s cuz it stretches the skin too much but idk
My belly button was pierced crooked over 10 years ago and I never bothered to get it re-pierced. I think it gives it character 😂
sameeee, mine is so crooked lollll but I refuse to change it

I feel you. I'd love to have it done but not being able to wear high-waisted pants until it's healed is too big of a sacrifice for me 😢

Can i use little bandaid at the side because the skin peeled a bit and it made jewelry sunk
