If you have a fever, a heart attack or cancer, you visit the doctor or hospital. So what's so taboo about seeing a doctor for your mental health too? it's alright to seek medical help no matter what health problems we have. Thank you Steph for filming this- for sharing with us your personal experience. I'm sure you made a difference to the lives of more than one of us! Stay strong xx

I think it's amazing that you spoke out about this. It shows people that even those they look up to can go through very human problems and emotions because they are in fact, human. And maybe it will encourage those that may need to seek help to do so. Thank you for your courage.

you're so brave steph.. i've been diagnosed with clinical depression and generalized anxiety disorder since i was 12 and i didn't get help until last year when it got too hard for me to go to school. i've always been so afraid of going to "a psych ward" because i hear so many horror stories. i only see psychiatrists so far.. but you are so brave and strong to go to inpatient care.

OMG people lol stop with the GOD CAN SAVE YOU comments. It's important to first seek out medical help - that's why doctors exist, to help you. Also it's kinda rude to push religion onto someone who's suffering from mental health problems.
Steph, I know exactly what you've went through/going through. You will get through it, trust me. Don't ever be ashamed of how you feel. There is always a rainbow after the storm.

A lot more people than you think have gone to the psych-ward! I myself have one three times and it honestly really does help to just disappear from the face of the earth for a few days. All the therapists are there to help. Going to the psych-ward is nothing to be ashamed of, I can name at least 20 people I know in the top of my head that have went there. Thanks for sharing and of course you're not alone boo!

So fucking proud of you Steph!!!
I was i diagnose with Mayor Depression in 2012, & in october 31 they finally give me my real diagnosis, Borderline Personality Disorder. Since november of 2012 until today may 2 of 2014 i have been in group therapy. I have anorexia + is a fact about the persons (like i'm) who suffer from that condition. In 2012 too i went by myself to a Mental institution where i spent 2 day there.
Today, i'm not self harming (like i used to do) Not thinking anymore about suicidal ideas, etc..
Been in checks in with my Group therapy 1 a week + seeing my Psychology 1 a week too! & seeing my Psychiatrist once every 2 or 3 months.
I'm proud of Myself & i'm proud of YOURSELF!!!
Keep going Steph! I love you so so much

    Hi Steph :)
I suffer from deppression and anxiety as well like 5 years ago. I'm taking medication since then, when I absolutely fell from the abysm. Now there are some good days, but other days when I feel like shit and my mind is blocked. I know that horrible feeling when is not you but your mind that doesn't let you do anything :( It's quite hard for other people to understand. I though making videos on youtube would be a good idea to keep myself motivated in fashion (wich I love) and other stuff...but it's been a year or so I didn't upload anything... Sometimes I feel I'm loosing the little strength I have, like these past fews days. I really liked hearing your story and I'm so PROUD of you!
    Take care!
    xoxo from Spain :)

You are so brave Stephanie. I have experienced intense depression and anxiety in the past. I honestly thought that there was no hope for me anymore. Then I went through ACT therapy (acceptance and commitment therapy) which changed my perspective on anxiety/depression.
I seriously recommend the books "The Mindfulness and Acceptance Workbook for Anxiety" by John P. Forsyth and "The Happiness Trap" by Russ Harris. They changed my life.
You can get through this, girl. Much love to you.

"Nobody is immune to depression and anxiety" so very true. Depression does not discriminate and believe me when I say the taboo of it all carries in the black community to an extended height. I'm glad you took it upon yourself to get help and that it was the best thing you did. I'm also glad that you made friends, it's nice to know your not alone especially when it comes to this topic. I've dealt with this before . Over a year ago . This video made me teary eyed only because you never really know what someone is going through . Everything's gonna be okay . What helped me get through was the people around me . I let go of negative people/energy . That helped a lot to be around people that are positive and does nothing but uplift your spirit . suicide really isn't the answer ! Everything's gonna be okay ! 😃😄

I have struggled with the same issues and things took a turn for the complete worse, when my dad died last year. It's amazing to know you aren't alone, and that there are options for us out there. I spent 8 weeks in a "psych ward" last year. It was demoralising at first, but now I talk about it and I want to help others going through the same thing. If you do feel depressed or suicidal you have to talk to someone and seek help. For me, it just got worse and I ended up with anorexia, that's why it took so long to recover in hospital, but being alive now is a blessing I am thankful for every single day!

I had a friend who had to go through depression and suicidal thoughts.
She's on the road to recovery right now, but from someone who has never had any experience with mental illness, it was honestly an eye opener.
I always thought, "That's not going to happen to me" or "All my friends are happy. None of them are going to go through that" but the reality is that there's no immune vaccination for depression.
Videos like these educate people a lot about it. I'm confident that it'll help not only the ones who are going through rough times, but the people around them.
    Thanks Stephanie.

I can relate, I checked myself into in-patient psychiatric care a few summers back. The mistake that I made was that I did not try to overcome my problems, but instead distracted myself from the depression and anxiety. It's come back recently, since my "distraction" (a year and a half long relationship) is no longer with me anymore. I've been feeling sad, i have this knot in my chest and stomach that won't go away, all of that. But I just started seeking help once again and I'm trying to be strong and fight the depression. You're an inspiration to me because of this. Hope everyday gets a little better for you

You are so brave for making this video and I'm really glad you did. Mental health is something that is never talked about, and all it takes is people like you to break out of that box and start that conversation. Thank you.

You're so brave Steph! Sometimes I think I'm too young to be as sad as I am sometimes, but I've found help along the way. I'm happy you're feeling better!

you're incredibly inspiring. I have no type of guts to speak with anyone about how I feel it's gotten to the point where I'm just being stubborn and things have gotten worse but watching this, I hope it's not selfish to feel better just because you and all you random strangers are understanding. I dig it

Oh girly, as someone who works in the mental health field but also deals with anxiety I just need to say I love you!!! You are so wise for the choice you have made and you are right, there are people out there who want to help and who want to find a way to assist in meeting pain with brighter days.

This almost made me cry!! I don't know how you're feeling but I can tell that it took a lot of courage for you to tlk about something so personal. I applaud you for that! Your are so amazing for putting yourself out there & this just shows how strong of a person you are. Never give up even when there is so much to feel down about. Bc without the hard times you would have nvr known what happy times felt like. ❤️

In Gensis 4, it says "Sin wants to destroy, but don't let it!"...I just want to say that I've been a viewer for a long time and I saw videos on your tumblr and such when you've been not the greatest with your mental health. But I want to say I am SO PROUD of you, when you feel that way it is so so so easy to think of suicide as the only way out, but the fact that you weren't going to let sin destroy you, but to go and do what you knew would help you, is amazing and it's something you should be proud of everyday.
I too pray that you will never have to go back there but know that's it's okay to break down sometimes! So many people look up to you and love you and you're such a great role model, as is Melissa.
Love you girls and I hope that happiness and joy will never leave you :) xx

Thank you for this video. I've been suffering from PTSD and depression/anxiety too. I've been in treatment before and started again a few months ago. It's so hard when all I want is just to sleep and never wake up, but can't because of family and friends. Everything is heavy and I'm always lethargic. I wish I could have a friend who goes through the same thing and we could support each other and get healthy. I have amazing friends but they'll never completely understand how truly difficult it is for me to get through the days. Good luck to u and all others on their journey

Dude, even before this video you were already a help to me. I swear there has been multiple times when I've been out thrifting or at H&M, or just chillin' at Walmart looking at your favorite Lipton tea and those Casio watches you and Melissa wear. I hope that you'll be able to get rid of all the bad thoughts and replace them with thoughts of how one of your viewers is smiling and thinking of you. Praying you'll stay strong. God loves you and so do we.

Be proud of yourself for making the decision to get treatment. Mental health is not always something people like to talk about, but how else are people supposed to learn and get help for themselves. You're not alone many people feel the same and there is help should you just seek it out.
