So this is where all the time with the Adventure went. Not into wing difficulty, not into card balance...but into a one off Brawl. ...Dem priorities yo.
Atleast they put effort into it, i can accept it.
It isn't a one off Brawl, they get repeated. And since most people like the original portal Brawl, it's not surprising they put extra effort into this one.
By "one off Brawl", I mean one Brawl that's going to focus around the Karazhan theme, and that's probably it.
Watch toast's video. That's where all the effort went.
If next week brawl is not Medivh's Birthday I will be disappointed.

Part of me feels like maybe they had scrapped content for Karazhan, so they threw it into this brawl.
The thing is I'm pretty sure they had as much time as they wanted on this adventure to make sure that it was as good as it could be, as I think this expansion announced and released earlier than it usually is.

I think the reason that this Brawl might have so much put into it is because Blizzard probably assigned it to their plethora of interns. Give them a menial task, like making a minion that's not a minion/all the audio files trigger based on card type/the card itself, to get the interns to prove their worth to the company. The Hearthstone developers don't need to do some of the more mind-numbing tasks for the Brawl, the interns have something they can contribute to the game, it's a "win-win".
Turns out that portals are actually pretty good. As long as RNG goes my way..

They never did give me a portal in the end - quite the disappointment, I must say. Then again, Blizzard has been sodomising Priest since the introduction of Standard format. And don't even get me started on Purify...

My first playthru was pretty epic. Turn 1 used an Unstable, got a Shadowbeast. Played it, and controlled the board for most of the game. When I finally did lost it (I had 1 minion, opponent had 3 but 1 were at 1 health), I got the shaman portal to help me clear; in return I got a Webspinner. Next turn it was still alive, so I ran it into one of my opponent's creatures... and got Gahz'rilla.
By the end I was hitting his face with a 100 attack Gahz'rilla. Wish I'd been at home recording that game. :D

My second game I got a turn 1 Lorewalker Cho and immediately fell in love with the brawl. Aside from the game eventually becoming the play-the-card-you-draw game, it seems pretty fun.
if anyone hadn't guessed.... there was a lot of left over designs for karazhan that wasn't put into the game. the party portal and all the emotes and various minions that came from it didn't make the cut for reasons i don't know.
In one of my matches, I had a *Wee Spellstopper*, and a *Nexus-Champion Saarad* next to it. That was pretty awesome game :D
My idea is that this Brawl uses some unused bits from the adventure. That's why there is so many emotes and stuff. Like that Partygoaters portal.

People are complaining that blizz did a good job making lots of emotes for a tavern, inst that good? So people would prefer a bad tavern with nothing new than a fun one with lots of new animations.... i dont get it.

No, there was no negativity in my comment. Whether they put this together from unused bits and pieces or made it from scratch , it's equally good. And in either case, in this Brawl they did a good job, I've never denied that, so stop putting things into my mouth that I've never said, would you? ;)

I personally think the Medivas where a cut boss fight from the Opera stage, which is why they have all this content for them.
While playing this with a friend, we got both Yogg and Cho. We immediately stopped and built up the biggest Yogg we could.
Love when they give cards Emotes and Interactions.
The "not a minion" effect was already in existence (portals versus netherspite) so all they had to do were the party portals, emotes, etc
The two non-minions might be from a boss cut from the adventure, that'd make a lot of sense.
That or it was just designed to be released with the last wing from the start and got a lot more dev love that way.
With the Tavern Brawl and the Netherspite portals, I predict that the next expansion will introduce playable non-minion minions.
The Medivas are not actual minions (also based on their card text!) => Eerie Statue still doesnt work... ( - got it from Unstable)

26:58 Only the pros are good enough to manage 3 dimensional positioning with their direwolves. The trick for the full 6 buff value is to fit two floating in the air on the left and right side of the wolf and slip two more minions underneath the game board.
this brawl along with the second boss in the spire shows me that blizzard is experimenting with "enchantment" cards and I couldn't be more excited for them to come out!
Speaking of random, my first game spawned ONLY 2/2 taunts for both sides, every time. 2nd game was all Red Riding Hoods. Seemed to eventually come right.

Have you noticed that more and more "inmortal" non minions are showing up in the game on taberbrawl and adventure? Do you think we might get some cards on next expansions that add these sort of permanent buff effects? Similar to emblems in MTG?

Might be tricky to balance properly. The closest thing we currently have to that is something like Justicar or Mistcaller. Blizzard generally tries to minimize the things that the opponent can't interact with or stop at all. They'd either need to make them really expensive, release counters to them (like acidic swamp ooze against weapons), or make them have a condition to stay in play, like anima golem.
More and more? I can't remember any examples of this from before Karazhan, even things like the staff in the first wing of LoE were implemented as actual minions right? Given that I'd be extremely shocked if the next expansion didn't incorporate something like this as the next mechanic. They couldn't overdo it of course but a few passives and a few temporary ones you can give your opponent to limit their minion spaces seem like obvious design space that could be explored without breaking the game.
I loved this Brawl. It was fun and I really loved that they went the extra mile and put in the Medivas complete with voice acting. Tavern Brawl would be much better if they always put these cool finishing touches.
My first game I got some Moonwalker as my Mediva, but I never found him again after that.
Genuinely surprised nobody's trying to correct his description of a DDoS attack. I guess it was close enough to suffice for the tech nerds out there.

i played it right on release wednesday, and i was getting a glitch where i was losing armor randomly and one where those 3 2/2 taunts only came out as one.
i played it multiple times and it happened in most games.

with overwatch, blizzard started renting out AWS server space when the game has a huge amount of load. So they don't only have just their own any more. They have a hybrid model.
What I noticed, is that Anima Golem does not work with the unkillable party dude. Feelsbadman. Anima Golem never has a home to go to.

A bug note: Moonglade portal does not double with Velen as it should.

First time i played this brawl i got Tirion off my first unstable portal. Second game i got Dr Boom off my first portal. felt so bad about both wins.
When you get Auchenai out of unstable and you have 3 Moonglade portals in hand.
I think you got more Mediva emotes in a single game than I got in 4.

When a brawl has more in it than an adventure...
To be honest I don't think this brawl is the RNGesus child, it's definetely random, and can get tricky, but it's not total luck as with the old Portal Tavern Brawl. This one has at least some skill to it (where to heal, where to trade, where to buff) so yeah, some luck as for the minions, but with the variety of actions that these portals give - there is actually some thinking needed ;)
How good is turn 3 (w/ coin ) 5/5 windfury, buffed to 7/7 with SM portal the next turn, summoning a 4/3 succubus and then using your remaining mana to Unstable Portal to summon a 5/1 Rager while your Dragonhawk does 14 face damage?

The medivahs might have been intended as part of the adventure but got cut, so they just used them in the brawl

I think that was just a joke line. It's like one of the classic "oh no, not again!" sitcom moments where you're supposed to just laugh and shake your head, since the implication is that ridiculous antics like this happen all the time at the tower.

Am I the only one who actually likes blood imp? IMO it's looked over in zoo. It can make easy to remove minions a lot harder. 1 health can be the difference. Nice on councilman too for stickiness. I may be the only one tho.

What?!? Is there any reason not to use your hero power at 15:13? I would even use a priest hero power if no character was damaged just in case you get frost giant out of an unstable portal that you got from the enemy's spellslinger or something like that. You never know...
No reason, he just forgot. Was probably too pleased with his heal value to notice and I think everyone does this every now and then.
