  • "In Pai" is a very important concept in table tennis. That's the way how you prepare your stroke before hitting the ball. By learning this Chinese philosophy, you can improve quickly your skills. The quality and the consistency of your shots also increase.
Please share this video with your team-mate. See you next Ping Sunday, coach EmRatThich.

I love the "invisible cord" theory . My coach always told me to prepare after hit the ball, after im hitting ball my hand isnt ready for another shot. I will try to pull the ball with invisible cord theory . Thanks COACH ERT

My coaches always said me "relax", "too early", and things as such. Today training loops I finally understood the joy of waiting the ball to arrive and not rushing toward the ball (note I started playing end of February this year, and I am an "old donkey"!!😀). Now you say IN PAI!!! This is a revelation / revolution for me. Is the proof that in 6 months of training I learnt something. HAHAHA LOL! Thank you for that! IN PAI is going to be my mantra. Yet, the invisible channel bat/ball! What a great tip. Super thank you. Cannot wait for next training on Monday to put it at work. Thank you again.

Ah, I really like concrete analogies, like the string one you used :)
Some of the steps are actually taught in clubs, but maybe not emphasized enough. Having a whole concept like In Pai and understanding the importance of the whole process really makes a difference! Thanks for this video!!

I liked the part where you compare it to a string. We send the ball forward and pull it back and ready to send again. All this while I used to send the ball forward, wait for opponent to return and by then i might be too late. I'll improve now thanks to EmRatThich. Best videos ever. Cheers

i dont know the professional players use this "in pai" method but i'm practising this at this time. Your videos support my theories and tells me that what i'm doing is right and eliminate the thought of those players who always laugh at me. More frustrating, their play are so boring with just tricky strokes and disturb their opponent mental with satires during the game.
I found that by just implementing in pai, my mind will stay aggressive and focused.
Hint to implement in pai. Always keep in mind to attack every ball, soften your grip until contact. Even the shortest ball will be possible to be attacked. Or the fastest smash can be countered (due to their slow body movement, we can read their target).
Nice work emrathich, i can feel that your mind and mine work the same. Keep up this noble work. I hope u will get promotion from your boss to the highest Grade.

Hi, I believe you are a great teacher for the many key point you explain and the way you present your information. I like to ask you how would you identify your style of play and or the way in which you can determine what paddle grip sue you better. I am right handed but tent to use my left hand in many occasions playing sport like ping pong. I at this time I use the handshake grip but until recently after seeing your video I realized I did not the proper finger position on the paddle but I had control. Now I am adjusting the grip but yet haven't get much better but I am sure it is because I do not get to play every day. I am working on playing more often.

    Thank you, Coach!
I like the concept of "like a water" and "imaging a string". This is really helpful.
With that, a question comes up with me.
You pull a ball into the hitting zone by imaging a string without rushing youtself to hit. So, when do you start to move the weight forward actually?
    (1) The beginning of the hitting zone, and hit a ball in the center of your hitting zone?
    (2) The middle of the hitting zone, and hit a ball lately?
    (3) The last moment of the hitting zone, and hit a a ball at the moment when a ball just touch your rubber?

Dear patron EmRatThich :) thank you for in pai. Do you have anything in pai for backhand stroke? Backhand top spin for example? The ball contact is very small, it is not similar as backhand as we all know. The transfer from the left leg to right leg is also crucial for power shift. But the problem is the positioning the body to the incoming ball to your backhand. Most spin balls comes in service to backhand generally, what's the in pai there? cheers!

Hi coach, I have an important question I can't find an answer for. I have a long tennis background although I do not play anymore. I mention this because in tennis I have a semi-underhand grip on the forehand. I also use this grip on the racket in TT because it feels natural. This grip causes me to use the same side of the racket on the forehand and backhand. But I just learned recently that you are meant to use both sides of the racket but I hit the ball fine on my backhand using the forehand rubber.
My question is; do I need to start using both sides of my racket? I fear this because I know I'll have to change my grip between moving from forehand to backhand and right now I do not need to do that which saves me valuable time and allows me to react very fast to either side.
I just bought my first racket off amazon without knowing anything about rackets. The black side is super tacky rubber and the red side is much less tacky. I'm not sure of the hardness. I found the black side gives me really good ground-strokes with a lot of spin and the red side is really good at returning serves that have a lot of spin since the red side doesn't grip the ball as much -- I can control it better.
I'm finding out all this is wrong but I'm hesitant to force a change on myself that might make me a worse player.

Hello, I'm a french player so I think I can make this commentary in french !
    Merci !
